Packet Ninja 0.6
Packet Ninja is a latency and connection monitor and test suite more>>
After a few weeks of work on this software and a couple of days of arguing, my conclusive proof is now being taken into account as they try to diagnose the real cause.
The Packet Ninja is the result of this disagreement. I needed software to monitor my connection 24/7 and to produce results that could not be contested. I wondered how many other people had the same problem, so I developed the software into a more user-friendly commercial release - and called it the Packet Ninja!
I do of course realise that more utility is expected out of commercial software and a roadmap for the development of extra features is included below. Primarily, the Packet Sentry tests connections and monitor internet services, including HTTP, FTP and mail, and alert administrators via SMS of fallovers. I hope you find this as useful as I have.
The basic feature set that I guarantee in the full release will include several tests:
- connection monitor (based on the Ping protocol);
- a website monitor (using http to retrieve a specific file); and
- an email send/deliver set (using SMTP and POP).
The final release will also feature follow-up tools for administration:
- Save graphs and logs (to send to your ISP, for example);
- Configure actions based on rules (restart after 20 failures, for example); and
- SMS notification via a supported GSM modem.

IPNetRouterX 1.4
Router, firewall, and network management. more>>
IPNetRouterX 1.4 is an effective tool including NAPT with inbound port mapping, a built-in DHCP Server, AirPort configuration tool, bandwidth accounting, and rate limiting.
Using IPNetRouterX you can share a network connection among multiple users, provide DHCP service, configure an AirPort software base station, allocate network bandwidth to match business priorities, audit network usage, and secure your LAN against undesirable traffic or network abuse.
IPNetRouterX includes the complete IP filtering engine from IPNetSentryX, extending its unprecedented flexibility to the entire LAN.
Major Features:
- Excellent performance using in kernel single address space AVL search trees.
- Excellent compatibility. As a shared resource, UNIX ipfw is often configured by multiple programs with conflicting models. IPNetRouterX does not use or depend on ipfw leaving it available for other UNIX software. IPNetRouterX's second generation NAT design includes many refinements not always available in other implementations.
- Flexible configuration, logging, and notification options.
- IPNetRouterX works with the built-in network stack and uses IP forwarding as well, so the primary implementation difference is that IPNetRouterX provides its own NKE (Network Kernel Extension) to provide NAT and IP filtering instead of relying on UNIX natd and ipfw. By providing its own implementation, IPNetRouterX can be faster and more flexible
- It's faster: UNIX natd is actually a client process which uses an ipfw divert socket to get packets out of the network kernel, translate them, and then re-inject them back into the kernel. This means it must shuffle every packet between different address spaces and wait for the corresponding process to be scheduled. In contrast, IPNetRouterX uses a Network Kernel Extension to perform translation within the network stack itself thus avoiding a huge amount of overhead. If you have a reason to care about network throughput such as serving a large number of users or doing remote backups, this can be significant.
- It's flexible: With UNIX natd you can't modify port mappings on the fly without restarting natd and thus losing every connection, plus there's no GUI to do this. As a shared resource, UNIX ipfw is often configured by multiple programs with conflicting models. IPNetRouterX does not use or depend on ipfw leaving it available for other UNIX software. Users are sometimes surprised to discover they can't use a firewall and AirPort software base station at the same time, or that the software base station doesn't remain configured after restarting, or they can't choose address ranges for DHCP or specific LAN segments. IPNetRouterX doesn't have these limitations.
- IPNetRouterX includes Traffic Discovery to let you see how your network is being used.
- IPNetRouterX includes Ethernet Bridging for setting up transparent firewalls.
- IPNetRouterX includes Load Balancing and Automatic Failover to use multiple ISP connections.
- IPNetRouterX is being actively developed and maintained for Macintosh users and is intended to solve problems other low cost solutions don't address. UNIX natd and ipfw were developed long before the Macintosh graphical User Interface came to the Internet. While Apple has done a good job of creating a simple GUI for configuring Internet sharing, it is designed for the most common 80% case of surfing the web from multiple hosts behind a single public IP address. If your needs are more complicated, Apple expects you to configure it yourself or use a 3rd party solution. IPNetRouterX provides a cost effective alternative.
Enhancements:
- Restructure project files to use Subversion based revision control.
- System Requirements are now 10.4 or later.
- Release as version 1.4
Requirements:
- Mac OS X 10.4 or later,
- Leopard compatible.

ZipIt 2.2.2
Zip compress/decompress application. more>>
ZipIt features a complete Macintosh interface. In version 2.0, the ZipIt interface was completely overhauled. Now easier to use than even before, ZipIt makes file compression fun. Mac OS X users will love the fact that ZipIt runs natively on OS X. ZipIt also takes full advantage of the Aqua user interface.
A zip archive is any file that ends with the extension .zip. The zip format is popular on the IBM, and is widely used as an interplatform compression format. In addition, ZipIt can compress Macintosh applications and documents without losing any of their data. ZipIt is best used when transferring compressed documents to and from other computer types.
Some examples are: text files, TIFF pictures, Excel databases, and QWK message packets, to name just a very few. Note that files that end in .Z or .gz are not ZipIt files, even though Netscape may give them a ZipIt icon.

MacPing 3.0.4
MacPing - Network troubleshooting tool more>>
MacPing(tm) is an IP and AppleTalk network testing tool. Just as sonar or radar systems send a signal and wait for an echo, MacPing sends "probe packets" (ICMP or AppleTalk echo packets) into the network and waits for responses from the various devices on the network. The arrival of these response packets (or the lack of responses), along with the time the responses take to arrive, can tell a great deal about the network.
MacPing differs from other network testing programs in that it tests all the devices on a particular network in parallel. This allows you to compare the performance of different devices on the same wire to determine the cause of network problems.
MacPing can test devices on anywhere on your AppleTalk network - simply choose the desired zone from the Zone: popup menu. If that zone contains multiple networks, choose the desired network number from the Network: popup. MacPing can also test IP networks. You can enter a host name or IP address and MacPing will test that device. In addition, MacPing can automatically determine a hosts subnet, and test all the devices on that subnet.

Main features:
- seamless cross-platform support for Windows, MacOS 9 and MacOS X. KeyCodeMaker formulae and activation codes work reliably and interchangeably on any of the supported platforms
- one-way encoding ties the codes to registered usernames for your users (usernames supported are free form alphanumeric text from 6 to 60 characters in length), so your solutions can be personalized to discourage piracy or sharing of licenses
- a two-way encryption/decryption cryptosystem is interleaved within the one-way encoded packets of the code, allowing you to include a date plus status indicator and/or a number between 1 and 800 within the activation codes you issue. Now you can sell licenses which expire on a set date, or run for a predetermined number of days or logins or whatever... its up to you!
- support for multiple products and/or multiple versions of each product, with the option to deploy incompatible cryptosystems for each product/version (so that keys issued for one version wont work with another - requiring users to purchase an upgrade etc)
- support for multiple activation codes against each user/product registration - so that you can track monthly, quarterly, annual or other subscription options as convenient ways to license your products
- user-friendly activation codes in a standard 4 x 4 alphanumeric format are specially designed to avoid the characters which are the most common cause of confusion - such as I and 1, 0 and O, in order to minimise confusion and frustration for the end-users of your products and reduce the incidence of support calls relating to product activation
- built-in database features to track multiple products, users, registrations and license codes, exploiting FileMakers relational capabilities to provide you with an efficient management tool for your software and user data
- special developer interface to facilitate management of the code base which supports the activation code functionality, with script sequences and procedures described in detail along with comprehensive instructions and notes - plus the option to copy and paste ready-made unique formulae direct from the developer data screen and paste them into the script calculation dialogs in your FileMaker Pro solution/s
- built-in password protection and security options to assist in protecting your encryption keys and product and customer information. The keys in particular are worth protecting, since they are what makes your activation systems unique and prevent others from guessing or replicating the codes for your products
- efficient production of complex formulae which would take hours or days to code and troubleshoot individually
- cost effective software access control solution - once you purchase KeyCodeMaker, you can include the code it generates in unlimited solutions and distribute them to unlimited users. You can expect it to pay for itself many times over
- all FileMaker native code for maximum portability, cross-platform capability, integration and compact simplicity
