Hardware Monitor Remote 4.8

Hardware Monitor Remote 4.8

Hardware Monitor Remote is a powerful program that makes it quick and easy for the Mac OS X operating system. more>>

Hardware Monitor Remote 4.8 is a powerful program that makes it quick and easy for the Mac OS X operating system.

Hardware Monitor Remote allows you to use a hardware monitoring service on a remote Macintosh system. Other computers can contact this system via network (local area network, wireless network or the Internet) to receive readings from all available hardware sensors.

Hardware Monitor allows you to monitor the computer it is running on in the standard configuration. Hardware Monitor Remote extends its capabilities to monitor additional computers in the network as well. You can connect to an unlimited number of computer simultaneously and monitor them all from a single workstation. (In practice, the actual number may be limited by the speed of your network.) Of course you can also use several monitoring stations to receive data from an arbitrary number of other computers.

Major Features:

  1. Start and stop the remote monitoring service by an easily usable control window.
  2. The monitoring service is perfectly integrated into Mac OS X and runs in the background. No user has to be logged in.
  3. A TCP network connection will be created on a configurable port number.
  4. Specify in what time intervals SMART temperature sensors should be accessed, in order not to disturb sleep mode of hard drives.
  5. Import definitions of artifical operating system sensors from Hardware Monitor to allow remote monitoring of these probes, too.
  6. Let the service record history data and automatically save it in periodic time intervals.
  7. Control external LCD display units to monitor "headless" systems that don't have a display screen connected. No user has to be logged in.
  8. Let the monitoring service launch automatically during startup of the operating system if desired.

Enhancements:

  • Support for Mac OS X 10.3 Panther has been removed. The required minimum OS version is now Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.
  • Because the application does not need to support Mac OS X 10.3 any longer, controlling the service could be simplified. Manually controlling whether the system should auto-launch the monitor service at startup is no longer necessary. The system will automatically keep the current run state the service had during last shutdown.
  • Alphanumeric LC displays connected via an IO-Warrior chip will no longer be disconnected when the background service was started during a login session and the user logged out.
  • The application no longer displays dialogs to save privileged preference settings when the control window is being closed.
  • Added a feature to monitor the size of swap space memory which is actually in use.
  • On PowerPC hardware, support for S.M.A.R.T. hard drive sensors accessed via SATA interfaces has been enhanced. The application will now accept the temperature sensors of unknown SATA drive models. (This has always been the standard on Intel-based computers.)
  • The support for hard drive sensors controlled via proprietary drivers of Sonnet and FirmTek has been enhanced.
  • When stopping the monitoring service, shutdown of attached alphanumeric LCD boxes has been enhanced.
  • Corrected a problem where the temperature values displayed for the cores of the Intel P7350 processor have been shifted by 15 degrees Celsius.

Requirements: Mac OS X 10.4 or later

CP290 Director X 2.0

CP290 Director X 2.0

Control the original X10 home automation computer controlled interface, model number CP290 more>> Control the original X10 home automation computer controlled interface, model number CP290

CP290 Director X is MacOS X software that controls the original X10 home automation computer controlled interface, model number CP290. It completely replaces the Macintosh software that comes with the CP290, and has unique features not found in other Macintosh-based CP290 controllers.
CP290 Director X has the same basic functionality as CP290 Director for Classic.
In addition to the above, the CP290 Director X supports the following additional features:
- The ability to specify that an event is to occur at sunrise or sunset (plus or minus a specified time interval);
- The ability to specify a specific date on which an event is to occur, and optionally the interval in days thereafter that the event should be repeated;
- The ability to specify that the event should occur only on even days or on odd days.
X10 systems usually work reasonably reliably, turning on or off the selected module when the CP290 commands it. However, occasionally noise or interference in your wiring can cut reliability whereby a module is not turned on or off at the requested time.
The best solution to this problem, if acute, is to install noise filters, signal bridges, or amplifiers. However, you may find that CP290 Director X solves the problem for you. CP290 Director X allows you to optionally specify that each "on" event should be sent more than once to the module, and/or that each "off" event should be sent more than once.
Thus, if the first command to turn off doesnt work, the second or third one might. If you specify that an event should be sent more than once, it will be sent the specified number of times (two to four) at one minute intervals.
CP290 Director X has the same basic functionality as CP290 Director (a MacOS 9/Classic program), but has been rewritten for MacOS X. However, it is backwards-compatible with CP290 Director in that it reads and processes CP290 Director files.
To connect a CP290 to a modern Mac without a serial port, you can use one of many USB-To-Serial adaptors. Keyspan makes several. The one I use is the Keyspan PDA adaptor (USA-19). These were originally made to connect early Palms to Macs, and many are still available on ebay, though they are not made anymore.
This has a DB 9 connector, so it will not connect to the cable that came with a Macintosh CP290, but you can buy a PC CP290 cable from PIGS Electronics. Alternatively, you can get a Keyspan USB Twin Serial Adaptor (USA-28X), which has two traditional Macintosh serial ports, though this is likely more expenseive than the PDA adaptor + cable.

Main features:
- Turning on and off modules immediately, including turning them on dimmed;
Defining "turn on" and "turn off" events to be stored in the CP290 and executed by the CP290 even if the Macintosh is shut down. Such events include:
- Turning a module on or off once at the specified time today;
- Turning a module on or off once at the specified time tomorrow;
- Turning a module on or off every week at the specified time and day(s) of the week;
- Turning a module on or off every week within an hour of the specified time and day(s) of the week; (security mode);
- Displaying the events currently stored in the CP290;
- Setting the base house code of the CP290, which is the house code it uses when its 8 on/off buttons are pressed;
- Setting the clock in the CP290 to the clock in the Macintosh;
- Displaying the clock in the CP290, and
- Performing a self test function.

Version restrictions:
- You can try it out for 30 days, but if you still use it thereafter, you must register it.

Simple Pager 1.2

Simple Pager 1.2

Simple Pager sends numeric pages to your dial up pager via your modem more>>
Simple Pager sends numeric pages to your dial up pager via your modem. Pages can be sent manually, by double clicking a saved pager document or via applescript. The applescript support lends itself very well to automated paging.
If other programs are using your modem Simple Pager can run a script before paging to turn them off and another script when it has finished to restart them.
This can be very useful if you are also using your modem to gather caller ID data but still wish to be able to use it to send outgoing pages.
Simple Pager is compatible with any built in Macintosh modem in desktop or powerbook computers as well as any external modem connected via USB, a USB/Serial adaptor, or a legacy serial port in older hardware.
Version restrictions:
- 10 seconds startup delay.
Enhancements:
- Support for Mac OS X.
