Ever thought about using your laptop as a synthesizer or digital effect-box? Did you notice theres some delay related to the computers soundprocessing?
The USB ASIO driver is the solution. It enables buffersizes down to 32 samples (0.73 ms) and does an ultra highspeed USB audio connection, bypassing the operating systems audio.
This does not only give you low latencies but better sound quality also.
SoundManager (Mac) and MultiMedia Extensions (MME / Win) use non-highend sample rate conversion in order to sync the different audio signals from applications to the sample rates used on the external soundcard. And sometimes theres not even a way to control the rate to be the prefered one. (E.g. 48kHz instead of 44.1kHz.)
Using ASIO its possible to do direct "one to one" hardware connections and even use higher bitrates (e.g. 20bit or 24bit) if supported by the device. Plus this driver can further increase quality by adding dither.
But of course, you need an ASIO compatible application like Cubase / Cubasis, Logic Audio / Micrologic, Reason, Live, Digital Performer, Sonar V2.2, BPM Studio, etc. If the app supports ASIO2 youll be able to benefit from more features.

Enhancements:

F8 Audio Unit is a filter effect with a nearly limitless choice of settings to achieve a huge variety of sounds, from traditional sounding wah or tremolo sounds to complex gate-like effects.
F8 has eight independent filters. Each filter has its own LFO. The filters can be set to be either "Lowpass," "Bandpass," or "Highpass" independently. Each filter has a resonance and cut-off frequency parameter. The LFO applies to the cut-off frequency of the filter. The rate, phase, and depth can be set independently for each filter. This allows for some pretty complex effects. Note that the resonance of the filters (Q) can be driven into self-oscillation. It can make things loud (and fun).
F8 works by copying the input audio into eight independent streams. The filters are applied to these eight streams, one filter per stream. Then the eight streams are mixed back into one by the corresponding sequence section for each filter. Essentially, the sequence section can be viewed as a time varying mixer. Finally, the Mix section has overall output level control and a wet/dry control. There is a checkbox control for selecting whether or not the tempo of the F8 syncs to the hosts tempo. If your host doesnt support tempo, the tempo of the F8 can still be set using the BPM control.
Version restrictions:
- While F8 is in demo mode, that there will be periodic intervals of silence.

hD is a distortion effect with harmonic generators. It can generate two pitch-shifted copies of up to two octaves above the input signal. It also has a sub-octave generator. hDs design uses its harmonic generators to enhance the distortion. The two harmonic voices are mixed into the signal before the distortion stage. We developed the sub-octave generator algorithm specifically for hD. It is latency-free. We place it after the distortion stage. This lets you get a good rumble without sounding like youve run a bass through a fuzz box.

Dragging vertically changes the value quickly and dragging horizontally changes the value slowly for finer control. The values can also be adjusted with a mouse scroll wheel by hovering over the parameter readout. Scrolling vertically gives faster change and if you have the ability to scroll horizontally (a Mighty Mouse, for example), horizontal scrolling changes the value slower for finer control.
