Version restrictions:

Select file(s) and folder(s) of Java classes and drop them onto this droplet icon. Then, all Java class files *.class and *.zip in the folders will be archived into a JavaClasses.zip file. Other files than *.class or *.zip will not be added to the archive.
The Java compiler javac of Apples MRJ 2.0 generates the compiled Java classes in the same folder as their source files. The JBindery application can build a Macintosh Java application by binding the Java classes and zip files in the particular folders. Unfortunately, the JBindery can not exclude other files than Java classes in the folders. It may include source files in it, alas!
Here is the way to compose Java application from the Java classes and zip files only. Let us use the Macintosh ZipIt 1.3.x to archive the Java classes and zip files and compress it. Fortunately, ZipIt is an AppleScriptable application so that we can commit a series of script commands to it and remove other files from the archive.

Creating zip-archives in the Finder is convenient. Unfortunately, they often contain items useless to people less fortunate, i.e. not using Macs. When they unzip such an archive, they can see .DS_Store files, Icon files and a __MACOSX folder.
By default ZipCleaner will remove all resource information in an archive. If you just want to remove .DS_Store files, you can press the option key when dropping a zip-file on ZipCleaner.
ZipCleaner was created to remove these files from the zip archives the Finder creates: just drop them on it. It also allows you only to remove the .DS_Store files, which contain Finder settings and Spotlight comments. To do that, drop an archive on ZipCleaner, while holding down the option key.
Warning: Removing all resource information from a zip archive can make included files, like applications, unusable! If you want to be save, unzip the archive and test the files. Removing only .DS_Store files should give no problems, though.

p7zip is a port of 7za.exe for POSIX systems like MacOS X, Unix (Linux, Solaris, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, AIX, Cygwin, ...), and BeOS.
7-Zip is a file archiver with highest compression ratio. Since 4.10, p7zip (like 7-zip) supports little-endian and big-endian machines.
NOTE: To install, open a terminal, go to the source directory and run "make" without the quotes.

Mac OS X natively supports the zip file archive format, commonly used to compress and distribute files.
This useful feature would be even more useful if you could use Spotlight to find files within these archives.
The Ziplight Spotlight importer plugin lets you do just that. All you have to do is install it on your computer and start searching.
Spotlight importers have to be fast and efficient, just like Spotlight itself. For this reason, Ziplight will not search the contents of the files within an archive (as this would require it to unzip every archive on your system).
Ziplight will only search the names of the files within a zip archive. Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) is required to use Spotlight plugins.
