Solver for Excel 2008 1.0 was built by Frontline Systems on both Macintosh and Windows. For many years, it has Solver upgrades for Windows users, that have gotten more and more powerful over time -- but it hasn't been active on the Mac. It is now applying more development resources to the Macintosh, motivated by the Mac's resurgence in the market and the move to Intel processors. But the catalyst for this move has been Microsoft's Mac Excel team.

If you open a workbook with a Solver model that you created in Excel 2004, or in most other versions of Excel, the model should appear automatically in this dialog -- you can just click Solve.

mEdit 2008r3 has come as a handy text editor which helps with combining several documents (worksheets) as a file (workbook). One can switch between the worksheets via tabs on the workbook. Equipped with many general text editor functions, this software provides editing options, including: copy, cut, and paste; and text formatting features; as well as find and replace tools. Useful additional information (meta data) can also be stored with the workbook.

Meta data--information such as when the worksheet was created, edited or last viewed; how many times the worksheet was edited; and label and comment attributes--can be set for each worksheet. Moreover, this software can create new meta data or delete unnecessary meta data. One can also find worksheets matching specific meta data. The worksheets can be displayed in tab, column, or list style. In tab style, there are tabs at the lower part of the screen that allow switching between worksheets.

In column style, a screen is divided into two, with the name of worksheets on the left-hand-side, and text editing area on the right. In list style, a screen is also divided into two, but the name of worksheets and the list of meta data is displayed at the top of the page, while the text editing area is located at the bottom. All three styles allow one to easily shift the order of the worksheets on the screen; one can also delete or copy worksheets as needed.

CleanSheets is a spreadsheet application that is both extensible and platform-independent.
It features a formula language that closely resembles that of Microsoft Excel, and extensions for aiding end-user programmers in developing correct spreadsheets.
The application is written in Java, and relies on ANTLR for generating the formula compiler and the JFC/Swing JTable component for spreadsheet visualization.
Enhancements:
- This release adds support for cell borders and format, and introduces the powerful new reflective DO function.
- Other new features are the ability to add and remove spreadsheets in a workbook, selection and auto-resizing of rows, and importing of tab-separated strings from the clipboard.
- Several improvements of existing features have also been made, such as in the performance of the spreadsheet table component, loading of language elements, and appearance of dialogs.
