Boot Log 1.1 is a distinguished and easy to use program that runs on OS-X to grab the user name you booted up as and saves a log in the user's prefs folder called 'boot log'.
This log is added to every time the program is executed so it is suggested to make the program part of the startup items in a user's system preferences. The only known issue is that it currently does not save the file in a common place for global accesses across different users. It is suggested that you use 10.1 or later version of OS-X as the user name lookup routine doesn't work well with the earlier versions of OS-X. The source code is included.
Requirements: Mac OS X

Apple Boot Camp 1.4b
Boot Camp - install Windows XP on an Intel-based Mac more>>
More and more people are buying and loving Macs. To make this choice simply irresistible, Apple will include technology in the next major release of Mac OS X, Leopard, that lets you install and run the Windows XP operating system on your Mac. Called Boot Camp (for now), you can download a public beta today.
As elegant as it gets
Boot Camp lets you install Windows XP without moving your Mac data, though you will need to bring your own copy to the table, as Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows.(1) Boot Camp will burn a CD of all the required drivers for Windows so you dont have to scrounge around the Internet looking for them.
Optional alt. At startup, hold down the option key (alt) to choose between Mac OS X and Windows.
Run XP natively
Once youve completed Boot Camp, simply hold down the option key at startup to choose between Mac OS X and Windows. (Thats the alt key for you longtime Windows users.) After starting up, your Mac runs Windows completely natively. Simply restart to come back to Mac.
The Boot Camp course
Boot Camp Public Beta provides a straightforward means of letting your Mac run Windows. Heres how it works:
First, you need to make sure your Intel-based Mac has the latest version of Mac OS X and the latest firmware update. These provide technologies that make Boot Camp possible. Its also wise to print out the Installation & Setup Guide.
The Boot Camp burns a CD with the drivers Windows needs to recognize Mac-specific hardware. It is very important to do this before starting the Windows installation.
The software also helps you set aside hard drive space for the Windows installation, without moving any of your Mac files around. Just drag the intuitive slider to choose the size thats right for you. Boot Camp also helps you remove the Windows partition, should you so desire.
Next, insert your Windows installation disc, restart and follow the Windows installation process. The only tricky part is selecting the C: drive manually. Be sure to get this right, or you could erase your Mac files accidentally. Remember, Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows.
After the installation process is complete and your Mac has booted Windows, youll need the Macintosh Drivers CD you burned previously. When you insert the CD, it will automatically install the drivers. Follow the instructions in the Installation & Setup Guide for helpful hints.
Dont forget to follow best practices for updating and protecting your Windows system (see Word to the wise to right).
See Apples Boot Camp Public Beta page for more information.
BootPicker 2.1.2
Will help you deploy multi-boot Macs and permit your end users to choose whichever platform will work best. more>> Will help you deploy multi-boot Macs and permit your end users to choose whichever platform will work best.
BootPicker is a very useful tool because with the advent of Boot Camp comes the possibility of deploying multi-boot Macs and permitting your end users to choose whichever platform will work best for whatever theyd like to do at the moment.
But how do you manage the presentation of this choice? There are a couple concerns to keep in mind:
1. Setting the boot device is an activity restricted to administrative users.
2. Allowing non-administrative users access to this functionality potentially allows them to set the boot device to some external media that they provide (then they can really tamper with the system).
3. Leaving the machine at the EFI boot picker (hold down the option key at startup), while possible, leaves the previous options open and also leaves the machine in a state in which it cannot be managed or accessed via the network. rEFIt allows you to lock down the boot options at startup, however youre still unable to actually manage the machine in this state.
BootPicker runs on startup immediately prior to LoginWindow. Based upon your configuration, it presents an option to the end user to choose an operating system.
Upon choosing that OS, the computer either continues to Mac OS X or reboots to the specified OS. The next time the computer is rebooted, it will automatically return to Mac OS X and the boot picker.
Finally, for environments that require management at a large scale, or management while the machines are turned off or booted to a different OS, BootPicker can be managed via a Mac OS X Server Open Directory Master.
Got AD? Thats OK, you can leverage that as well. You can even run BootPicker from a logout script to give every new visitor to your lab machines the opportunity to choose their OS without rebooting.
Enhancements:
- Added some accessibility features. VoiceOver and keyboard interaction are now supported.

BootChamp 1.0.2 offers you an useful launcher shutdown tool which is a small utility for quickly booting into Windows.
How is this different than selecting your Windows volume from within Startup Disk in System Preferences? Well, using Startup Disk actually changes your startup disk permanently so that each time you restart, it boots into whatever you have selected. What this program is doing is the same thing that happens when you hold down Option at startup and select Windows. However, the app only requires a single click and your admin password, and then it restarts your computer into Windows without further input from you. It will not actually change your startup disk.
The application has two modes of function. By default the application will create a menu item in your menu bar when launched. However it can also begin the booting process as soon as it's launched. To enable this, open Terminal and enter defaults write com.kainjow.BootChamp DefaultBehavior 1. To change it back, simply use a 0 instead.
