A MiniApp performs a single task, somewhat of a pre-configured macro wrapped in an application shell. There is no complex user interface or settings to configure.
It knows what to do, how to do it, even when to quit.
MiniApps require System 7 and generally reside in the Apple Menu Items folder, where they can be reached easily. Although some may be better located in the Startup Items folder.
Contrary to system extensions, which provide similar functionality, MiniApps do not have permanent memory requirements and are not subject to annoying conflicts.

Those of you who have converted all of your CDs into mp3s (or wma/ogg/..) and try to shuffle songs in your big, static all-containing playlist will surely know the hey, I already heard this song an hour ago! problem. That random function just doesnt seem random enough! The main reason for this is the birthday-problem: the chances that you hear a particular song twice in, say the same day, are quite small, but the odds of ANY song playing twice in that timespan, are real, very real. Your typical media player just selects a random song from a statically generated list without saving where it last left off.
LongPlayers smart queuing checks how long it has been since you heard a song, how good you think a song is and what genre you think it belongs in.

Image can be used to measure area, mean, centroid, perimeter, etc. of user defined regions of interest. It also performs automated particle analysis and provides tools for measuring path lengths and angles. Spatial calibration is supported to provide real world area and length measurements. Density calibration can be done against radiation or optical density standards using user specified units. Results can be printed, exported to text files, or copied to the Clipboard.
A tool palette supports editing of color and gray scale images, including the ability to draw lines, rectangles and text. It can flip, rotate, invert and scale selections.
