Who Said This? 1.1
Who Said This? - Fun way to learn quotations more>>
Who Said This? is a fun way to learn quotations. A test (or game) is to identify 20 authors of 20 quotations. When you start the test, a quote is selected at random from the list in the Quotes Maintenance window (the default list includes over 100 authors/quotations and you can add, delete, and change this information).
Your challenge is to pick the author from a drop-down menu of ten names for each quotation. Correct answers are rewarded with five points; incorrect answers result in a penalty of one point. High scores are maintained. Sound is supported. The sound setting and the Quotes Maintenance information are saved between sessions.

Conan the Librarian X 1.1
Conan the Librarian X is a torture tool more>>
What is Conan the Librarian X?
A torture tool. Conan tells you to shut up when the incoming sound on your built in microphone reaches certain levels. This is a port of a very, very old System 7 extension for the Macintosh. It was one of my favorite useless apps for the Classic Mac OS.
How do I use Conan the Librarian X?
Ideally, you should install this app on the Mac of someone you hate. I have a list of 67 people, personally. Once installed on the Macintosh of your foe, double click the icon to launch. It runs as a faceless background application, so it will look as if nothing has happened. When running, Conan the Librarian listens in on the built in microphone. When the sound level gets to a certain point, it will tell you to shut up. The more sound that comes in, the angrier the Governor gets. If you need to kill the application because your life is being threatened, open up a Terminal window and type in the following command:
killall QUIT "Conan The Librarian"
Conan the Librarian X is 159% freeware. You may redistribute the application as you see fit, without notification to myself, as long as no fee is collected.
Enhancements:
- Version 1.1 is a little less sensitive to sounds.
- If Conan is still too sensitive, try lowering the Input Volume in the System Preferences (under Sound->Input).

Unihan Variant Dictionary 1.2
Unihan Variant Dictionary - Retrieve list of variants for any Unihan (CJK) character, and more more>>
"Unihan variants" are alternates of characters belonging to the "Unified Han," or "Unihan," section of the Unicode standard. So-called Han characters have been used across East Asia for milennia. Over time and across regions, different forms of the same character have arisen and persisted. As recently as the 20th century, new forms of these characters have been invented and used.
Accounting for these unihan variants has been one significant challenge for the Unicode project. The Unicode project has tried to incorporate significant variants for characters, and it maintains a list of variants for each character in the Unicode standard. This list is not exhaustive, and others have compiled more exhaustive lists.
Enhancements:
- Improved support for Intel-based Mac

Griffin iMic Control 1.5
Griffin iMic Control - Driver for the USB microphone more>>
The iMic Control utility provides additional features and control for the iMic USB audio adapter. The software is free for iMic users.
Currently the iMic control supports output treble, bass, volume, balance, and mute as well as input gain. Some functions such as audio input gain require that you hot plug the iMic before the new settings take effect.
Enhancements:
- iMic Control 1.5 includes an adjustable input gain control. This allows users to adjust their sound input level when recording music or voice into the Mac. This is especially useful for people recording sound into iMovie. Although iMovie can record voiceovers and music directly, it has no way of adjusting the level of sound being recorded. The combination of iMic Control 1.5 software and an iMic gives this very important control back to the user.
- Another key feature included in iMic Control 1.5 is Bass and Treble control. Although many individual apps include multi-band Equalizers, there has never been a way to control the Bass and Treble of the Mac itself. What if the overall sound of an iBook needs more bass? Or a user wants to adjust the Treble of external speakers? With the free iMic Control software they have both settings available to their Mac to adjust its sound any way they desire.

Griffin PowerWave Control 0.5
Griffin PowerWave Control - Enables several additional features to PowerWave more>>
Griffin PowerWave Control is not required for PowerWave to function. When used, it enables several additional features to be controlled directly from within the PowerWave. Among other things, this software allows one to change the USB audio input type.
This provides a workaround for a problem in OS 9 with the Apple USB audio drivers. Normally a USB audio input device would "register" itself as a Microphone Input so the PowerWave is compatible with more audio applications.
However in order to use the playthrough feature in the Sound control panel in Mac OS 9, the device type must be Line Input. This PowerWave Control allows this selection, in addition to other features.
