Home Weather Center (HWC) is a weather graphing, monitoring and analysis application for Mac OS X. HWC is designed as a virtual weather station utilising Internet based weather sources rather than the more traditional and costly hardware based sensors.

As data is gathered and stored in its database, HWC will help you view weather statistics such as the lowest temperature, or the highest wind speed over any time period stored in the database.

In addition HWC contains a journal for weather notes and can generate web pages containing current conditions, graphs, statistics and a web-cam image. HWC can upload these web pages to your server for display via a web browser anywhere in the world.

HWC also monitors the weather and can run a set of pre-defined and user programmed alerts that can trigger emails, send SMS messages to your mobile phone and/or run scripts should an alert trigger

Here are some key features of "Home Weather Center ":

· Continuous and unlimited recording, monitoring and analysis of weather data for up to three locations.
· Provides graphs of temperature, dew point, wind chill, wind speed, wind direction, precipitation and barometric pressure.
· Can graph and display conditions for any date in the database; dates can be entered using natural language; for example last wednesday. Graph scales range from 1 to 56 days.

As part of the release of Zork Nemesis Activision released Zork I for free on their website. Coinciding with the release of Zork Grand Inquisitor, the first of a new series of Zork adventures, Activision released Zork II and Zork III as well as a new Zork text adventure called Zork: The Undiscovered Underground by Marc Blank and Mike Berlyn.

To save searching Activisions somewhat confusing site I thought Id make these available here at the Infocom site. The games are available in the Windows 95 format in which Activision released them as well as in Mac or ZIP formats (since Ive received many complaints from people who either dont run Windows 95 or are having trouble installing it under Windows 95).

Weather Map is an AppleScript application made to download the current weather maps for your selected region of the USA. When you run "Weather Map" it looks at the preferences made by the "Weather Map Run First" application to determine what region you have selected.

Then it downloads the weather maps for your region. It creates a folder on your desktop called Weather to store the maps.

It then creates a sub folder for that download labeled with the date. It stores the maps for the day in that folder. "Weather Map" will ask you if you would like to keep the maps. If you dont want to save the maps, "Weather Map" will delete them for you.

Our hope is that all users of this software will aid its development by notifying us of any bugs, inconsistencies, and conflicts that arise while using Weather Desk.

Here are some key features of "Weather Desk":

· First Launch Open the Weather Desk application before using the menu extra for the first time. Currently, nearly all error-checking and initial set-up is done from within the main application. This will change in the future, but for now...
· Menu Extra Before launching the menu extra, we recommend disabling "Show time connected," and "Show status while connecting" in the remote access menu. The remote access menu, if it is enabled, appears as a "telephone" icon in your status bar. The status bar does not handle multiple animations very well, and may "flash" if you leave these options on.
· Locations To add, edit, or remove locations, open the Stations window by selecting "Edit" from the "Stations" menu.
· Groups Weather Desk allows you to assign each location to a group. For example, if several cities in our list were nearby, we could place them together in a group called "Local." To edit your groups, simply select "Edit" from the "Groups" menu in the Stations window.
· Icons Setting different icons for different locations allows you to quickly find stations when switching to another location. It also looks nice. To add or change an icon, simply drag & drop any file or folder onto the image well in the Add/Edit window. Note: If you drop an image file onto the well, the image will be used and not the file icon.
· APOD The astronomy picture of the day will load automatically when you select "A.P.O.D." from the toolbar. Clicking on the Preview button will load a high-resolution version of the image in Preview.app (or your default image-handling application). Note: This is a cached image. If you would like to save this image, simply select "Save as..." or "Export" from the "File" menu in Preview.
· Earth/Moon Viewer This feature allows you to load images of Earth and the moon. You can view the Earth as it appears from any of the locations in your list, from a set of coordinates (lat/long), from the night side, from the day side, or from the moon.
· As with the APOD, saving an image requires that you export/save in Preview. The larger images sizes will not be entirely visible in Weather Desks window and can be viewed in preview.
· Note: the live images do not show cloud cover/activity. They do show surface terrain, city lights (night side), and other details. Cloud cover, water vapor, and similar features will be available in a future update via the "Satellite Imagery" feature.
· Nexrad Radar The radar feature in this version is limited, but will allow radar images to be loaded from any radar site in the US. A future update will allow you to choose from at least 6 types of radar imagery and will have, if possible, international support.
· Desktop Images This release of Weather Desk can automatically set your desktop to an updated image of the Earth (while the menu extra is open). You can set the altitude, image size, update frequency, and image source from the Preferences window.
· New Buttons You should notice that several small buttons now appear below any image view. These allow you to open the image in Preview, set it as your desktop image, or visit the home page of the service from which they are being downloaded. Not all of these options are available for each image.

NOAA Weather Center widget is a powerful, and fun way to get all the weather information you need. Just enter your address, city, or zip code and you get instant access to forecasts, current conditions, animated radar, and important weather alert bulletins.

All of the data comes straight from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration s National Weather Service.

The NOAA Weather Center widget gets all of its data from NOAA s National Weather Service, which is a United States government agency (see the disclaimer for more information). That means that it should work almost anywhere in the United States or its territories.

However, since it also uses the service at GeoCoder.us to get location data (translating your address or city into latitude and longitude coordinates), it won t work in places that GeoCoder.us does not have the necessary information for.

The CCMC Space Weather Widget displays plots that are derived from real time space weather simulations that are executed at the Community Coordinated Modeling Center at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

The models are provided by the research community and cover:
Heliosphere
Solar
Magnetosphere
Fok Ring Current
Ionosphere

These two AppleScripts will go to either Weather.com or AccuWeather and download the most current Animated weather maps.

The maps from Weather.com are actually a series of 5 images, so this eliminates the need for one to go to 5 different URLs and download the maps individually. The maps from AccuWeather are layered, so that the overlays (roads, names, markers) are each seperate image files from the actual map.

This downloads all the necessary image files so that you can put them together in an image/video editor (Photoshop, FCP).

To choose a map, just flip to the back to choose a location--from the Northeast to the Southwest, and everything in between, plus additional maps covering the entire globe and every continent. Then, choose any of the regional maps either on the back or the front of the widget, whichever is most convenient.

Maps include: Doppler, Current Weather, Visible and Infrared Satellite, Forecasts, Severe Weather, and even more. Clicking on the map dynamically zooms in, and the map becomes more than twice as large! Click again and it shrinks back into place.
