The primary advantages of using MPEG-4 images, as opposed to other popular formats, comes from the tremendously reduced image file size achieved with MPEG-4 compression. Without sacrificing image quality, MPEG-4 image file scan be between 2 and 5 times smaller than other formats, resulting in considerably faster downloading and similar improvements in bandwidth usage.
Rather than waiting for an entire image file to download, MPEG-4 images appear almost instantly in any one of three progressive modes: progressive by size, blur or block. E-Vue's exclusive progressive mode allows the viewer to see are cognizable image considerably faster than other image formats. This allows users to quickly determine whether to complete the download or move on, thus making for a more satisfying and productive Web experience. When connecting to the Internet via modems, you can view 6 to 12 MPEG-4 based pages inthe same time it would normally take to view as few as three pages using other image formats.

This plug-in allows you to create new or convert existing image files to standard compliant MPEG-4 image files. MPEG-4 files are 2 to 5 times smaller than JPEG for the same image quality.
You can even edit existing MPEG-4 images, and save them in any Photoshop supported image format. It is intended for multi-channel video art, video walls, etc. I designed it as an artist-friendly low-budget alternative to the expensive combo of industrial DVD players (Pioneer DVD-V7400, DVD-V5000) and Dave Jones Design sync boxes. Those systems are fantastic, but if you have a few computers and a network hub, MultiScreener is worth a try.
There are two applications: Server and Client. The server plays a movie and sends position information over the network. Each client "listens" to the server and subtly adapts its movie playback speed to stay in sync. There is no limit to the number of clients (but you need a computer for each one).
Looping and de-interlacing are available, and all settings are automatically saved for unattended startup. MultiScreener can output to the computer screen or external video devices (like DV cameras or decks). There is no native resolution or frame-rate, so all QuickTime video formats are supported equally. In my tests, DV NTSC movies synced perfectly on Dual 867 G4 towers through the latest Intel machines, but HD formats will probably demand more horsepower. (HD is untested as of May 2008.)

What makes EDMA different from other systems is that GNU EDMA does most of the processing dynamically, that is, at run-time.
The EDMA Team calls this, generically, Loosely Coupled Object Oriented Systems (LOOCOS). Other people names this systems: delegation based, object inheritance based, etc.
So, you can establish inheritance relationships among objects or even, you can dynamically override virtual methods, while the applications is running. Working this way you can build more real_life-like models and simplify a lot of common operations which, in most cases, needs complex patterns. Design patterns like Proxies, Factories, Facades, etc... are implicit in the EDMA programming model (in general in any delegation based system).
In addition to all this, the programming interface provided by EDMA is mostly based on strings so, concepts like automation or interactive managing are directly supported by the system in a very easy way.
EDMA provides some features normally found in programming language, but it is not a programming language. Its a system midway from OO programming language to a component-based environment. So EDMA allows you to use OOP even on non-OO programming language or at least that is its aim.
Additionally, EDMA provides facilities to build evolvable software. Plug-in based application becomes trivial when using EDMA. Applications can be directly updated in a modular way (just install the new components required by the new version), even at run-time.
