I wanted a quick way to see if I had any new mail in Mail without actually wasting the .35 seconds required to make the Dock spring up or to command+tab to Mail only to have my hopes dashed by not finding a little red badge on the Mail icon.

If Apple Mail has unread mail, MailUnreadStatusBar is a program which displays an icon in the status bar.
A red circle appears on the icon if there is unread mail in one of the specified mailboxes.
When there is unread mail, the total number is shown at the side of the icon. It also shows the number of unread emails in each mailbox in a drop-down menu when you click on the icon.
It can start, quit hide or show Mail from the menu bar.
When you clicks on a listed mailbox name, the email of that mailbox is shown.
Even if a parent mailbox is checked, it doesnt select a child mailbox.
That is because a parent mailbox is not the group of the child mailbox but a mailbox itself.

Delete, Mark Read... is an Entourage script, by Bruce Klutchko and Allen Watson, very useful for quickly marking mail as read and moving it to the deleted items folder.
If the mail has been flagged in the "Junk" category by the junk mail filter, it will be permanently deleted instead of being moved.
If the message is an outgoing message, it will be marked as "sent" before moving (this is to prevent the Deleted Items folder from showing in bold, which it does if it contains unread or unsent messages).

MailBadge floats above all of your applications displaying the unread count of your Inbox. Hold the Command key and drag it around your screen even above the menubar. Click the mail icon to calculate CPU usage, show more mail details, control iTunes, and show the date and time in a larger window.
(The large window will revert to a mail icon when anything else is clicked.) In the large window: Click the iTunes icon (or album cover) to open iTunes. Click the CPU usage icon to open the Activity Monitor utility. Click the larger mail icon to open Mail. Click the large date icon to open iCal.
Click the small preference icon (looks like a circle) to open the preferences window. Click the little desktop icon to hide all open apps and close open Finder windows. (MailBadge is a faceless application it does not have a menu or appear in the dock.)
