Batch Unpacker 1.0

Batch Unpacker 1.0

Batch Unpacker - unpacks the bitstreams of AVI video files more>>
Batch Unpacker is an OS X application that checks for, and if necessary, unpacks the bitstreams of AVI video files.

This relatively quick procedure can very often cure a "stuttering" problem that can occur when AVI video files with packed bitstreams are played on DivX enabled DVD players. This stuttering can be observed as a jerkiness when the camera pans in the movie.

Note, to run this application, you need to have the mono framework installed on your computer.

The Unarchiver 2.0.1

The Unarchiver 2.0.1

The Unarchiver is known as a convenient and effective compression tool. more>>

The Unarchiver 2.0.1 is known as a convenient and effective compression tool. The Unarchiver is a much more capable replacement for "BOMArchiveHelper.app", the built-in archive unpacker program in Mac OS X. The Unarchiver is designed to handle many more formats than BOMArchiveHelper, and to better fit in with the design of the Finder.

It can also handle filenames in foreign character sets, created with non-English versions of other operating systems. Personally find it useful for opening Japanese archives, but it should handle many other languages just as well.

It is very simple to use and install - simply copy it into your Applications folder or whereever you prefer, and then set archive filetypes to open using it. This can either be done the usual way, or by double-clicking the icon to show The Unarchiver's preferences.

Supported file formats include Zip, Tar-GZip, Tar-BZip2, RAR, 7-zip, LhA, StuffIt and many other more and less obscure formats. The goal is to make The Unarchiver able to extract anything you give it. The Unarchiver uses the libxad unarchiving library to support many older, obscure formats.
If you have a compressed file that The Unarchiver does not open, please post a bug on the bug tracker, and include the file in question, and I will look into whether it is possible to add support for it!

Major Features:

  1. Supports more formats than I can remember. Zip, Tar, Gzip, Bzip2, 7-Zip, Rar, LhA, StuffIt, several old Amiga file and disk archives, CAB, LZX, stuff I don't even know what it is.
  2. Copies the Finder file-copying/moving/deleting interface for its interface.
  3. Uses the character set autodetection code from Mozilla to auto-detect the encoding of the filenames in the archives.
  4. Supports split archives for certain formats, like RAR.
  5. Built around libxad. This is an old Amiga library for handling unpacking of archives. It supports a whole lot of formats, and added a couple more, and bugfixed old code. Also wrote a higher-level Objective-C wrapper around it, which might be useful for other projects too (including Xee).
Enhancements:
  • Should now handle concaternated bzip2 files.
  • Fixes to the Japanese translation.
  • Fixes to the LZMA parser.

Subsonic 3.1.beta2

Subsonic 3.1.beta2

Subsonic is a free, web-based media streamer, providing access to your entire music collection wherever you are more>>
Subsonic is a free, web-based media streamer, providing access to your entire music collection wherever you are. Use it to share your music with friends, or to listen to your own music while at work. You can stream to multiple players simultaneously, for instance to one player in your kitchen and another in your living room.
Subsonic was created in order to handle very large music collections (many thousand albums). It uses a combination of directory structure and tag parsing to organize the music. Although optimized for MP3 streaming, it works for any audio or video format that can stream over HTTP (for instance AAC and OGG).
By using transcoder plug-ins, Subsonic supports on-the-fly conversion and streaming of virtually any audio format, including WMA, FLAC, APE, Musepack, WavPack, Shorten and OptimFROG.
If you have constrained bandwidth, you may set an upper limit for the bitrate of the music streams. Subsonic will then automatically resample the music to a suitable bitrate.
In addition to being a streaming media server, Subsonic works very well as a local jukebox. The intuitive web interface, as well as search and index facilities, are optimized for efficient browsing through large media libraries.
Main features:
- Supports MP3, OGG, AAC and any other audio or video format that can be streamed over HTTP.
- Transcoding engine allows for streaming of a variety of lossy and lossless formats by converting to MP3 on-the-fly.
- Works with any network-enabled media player, such as Winamp, iTunes, XMMS, MusicMatch and Windows Media Player.
- Displays cover art, dynamically scaling it to fit nicely on the screen. Supports images embedded in ID3.
- You can assign ratings and comments to albums.
- Finds cover art and album info using Amazon Web Services.
- Audioscrobbling support. Automatically register what youre playing on last.fm
- Tag editing of MP3 and OGG Vorbis files.
- On-the-fly resampling to lower bitrates using the high-quality LAME encoder.
- Common playlist features (add, remove, rearrange, repeat, shuffle, undo).
- Playlists can be saved and restored. M3U, PLS and XSPF formats are supported.
- Saved playlists are available as Podcasts.
- Support for Internet TV and radio stations.
- Configurable index.
- Google-like search functionality.
- Automatic update of search index at specified intervals.
- Supports multiple media folders (for instance one with music and another with movies.)
- Supports multiple simultaneous players. The playlist for any player can be managed from any location.
- Secure. Users must log in using a username and password. Users can be assigned different privileges. Supports HTTPS/SSL encryption.
- Lean web interface optimized for constrained bandwidth environments and efficient browsing through large music collections.
- WAP interface allows you to control Subsonic from any mobile phone or PDA.
- In addition to streaming, single files or entire directories may be downloaded from Subsonic.
- Files can be uploaded to Subsonic. Zip-files can be automatically unpacked.
- You can specify a upload/download bandwidth limit.
- Implements the SHOUTcast protocol. Players which support this (including Winamp, iTunes and XMMS) will display the current artist and song name.
- Provides links to album reviews and more at Google Music and allmusic.com.
- Full internationalization support. Currently available translations: English, Norwegian, Macedonian (by Stefan Ivanovski), Simplified Chinese (by Neil Gao), Spanish (by Jorge Bueno Magdalena), German (by Harald Weiss), and Dutch (by Ronald Knot).
- Theme support. Currently ships with four themes.

rb-appscript 0.5

rb-appscript 0.5

rb-appscript gives a tool to monitor scriptable Mac OS X applications applying ordinary Ruby scripts. more>>

rb-appscript 0.5 gives a tool to monitor scriptable Mac OS X applications applying ordinary Ruby scripts. Appscript makes Ruby a serious alternative to Apples own AppleScript language for automating your Mac.

Simple all-in-one binary installers are provided for Apple-installed Ruby 1.8 on Mac OS 10.4.x, and source files are included for installing appscript on other OS/Ruby versions. Example scripts, documentation and tutorial are also included.

Enhancements:

  • OSAX module no longer errors on import in 10.5 if a ScriptingAdditions folder (e.g. ~/Library/ScriptingAdditions) doesn't exist
  • added Appscript: Application#is_running method
  • added hfs_path, #hfs_path methods to MacTypes: Alias, MacTypes:FileURL; existing path, #path methods now use CFURL functions to convert between POSIX paths and URLs
  • aem/appscript now raises Connect: CantLaunchApplicationError instead of AE:MacOSError if unable to launch an application. Users should update existing code as necessary.
  • fixed extconf.rb so that universal binaries build correctly
  • built-in help system now uses ASDictionary 0.9.0+ instead of AppscriptHelpAgent. (AppscriptHelpAgent is no longer used as-of rb-appscript 0.5.0 and may be removed if previously installed.)
  • #help method now writes messages to stderr instead of stdout
  • Appscript: Reference#respond_to? now has identical signature to Object#respond_to? (optional second argument was previously missing)
  • fixed bug in AE.convert_long_date_time_to_unix_seconds (used to unpack AEDescs of typeLongDateTime) where it would crash if passed a FixNum instead of a BigNum
  • now allow methods that have been added to Object class at runtime (e.g. importing the pp module adds #pretty_print and #pretty_inspect) to be invoked on Appscript:Reference and Appscript:Application instances, assuming that the reference object doesnt already have a property/element/command by the same name. In other words, instances of these classes now behave more or less the same as instances of ordinary subclasses that use bound methods rather than #method_missing to handle incoming messages. Previously, calling (e.g.) #pretty_inspect on an appscript reference would result in a property/element/command not found error.
  • improved behaviour of Appscript:Application#AS_new_reference when argument is nil (now returns a new reference to the root application object)
  • OSAX:Application initialiser now optionally accepts static terminology glue module as its second argument. This is partly to provide scripts that need to run in 64-bit processes with a workaround for accessing the OSAX module, which cant yet automatically obtain osax terminology under 64-bit (see TODO file).
  • added process_exists_for_path?, process_exists_for_pid?, process_exists_for_url?, process_exists_for_desc? class methods to AEM: Application
  • deprecated AEM:Application.is_running? (will be removed in 1.0.0); any existing code that uses this method should be updated to use AEM: Application.process_exists_for_path? instead
  • fixed minor formatting flaw in generic references #to_s method
  • AEM:Application is now a subclass of AEMReference: Base, allowing aem Codecs instances to pack it
  • added AB_export_vcard.rb sample script

Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.3 or later
  • Ruby 1.8 or later.

Concertina Sound Font

Concertina Sound Font

Concertina Sound Font - Very high quality Sound Font in SF2 format more>>
The default set of sounds you get with Quicktime is a bit short on free-reed instruments, and in particular there is no concertina sound. This is a very high quality Sound Font in SF2 format, made from my own baritone Wheatstone English concertina (ca. 1906). It has been compressed with Stuffit, which is not very efficient, as the dedicated packaging programs (SFArk and SFPack) dont yet have Macintosh versions available. Consequently its a very big file - 7.3 Mb in size. You must be using at least version 5 of Quicktime to use it.

To use this file under OS X, unpack it and place the resulting "Concertina.sf2" file in ~/Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks
To use it under Classic systems, place it in System Folder:Extensions:Quicktime Extensions
If you want to use it under both operating systems you can put the file in the OS X location, reboot in OS 9, make an alias of the file and put that in the Quicktime Extensions folder.

You dont have to reboot, or even re-start BarFly. Choose "Add an Instrument" from the Instrument sub-menu. In the Instrument Picker dialog, the Synthesiser popup menu now contains a new synth named "Wheatstone English Concertina". Choose that, then choose one of the three instruments from the Instrument popup.
