SIMBL 0.8.1

SIMBL 0.8.1

SIMBL - Build hacks for Cocoa applications and apply the code selectively based on an applications unique identifier more>>
Problem:
Some applications do about 90% of what I want.
Solution:
Develop my own applications.
Better Solution:
Patch the application myself...
1. What It Does
SIMBL (Smart InputManager Bundle Loader) - pronounced like "symbol" or "cymbal" allows you to build hacks for Cocoa applications and apply the code selectively based on an applications unique identifier. Its not really all that smart, or even clever, but its smarter than just blindly loading code into an application.
For example, Safaris application identifier is com.apple.Safari. You can use this to prevent bundles that link against application-specific frameworks from bombing on startup when they encounter another application that does not support those libraries. You can also use the applications bundle version to further specify when your plugin should load.
2. Installing
There are two parts to SIMBL, the bundle itself, which is packaged as an InputManager, and the plugins.
Due to the limitations of Apples Installer.app, these packages install to /Library/InputManagers, though they work equally well in the user domain as well (~/Library/InputManagers). I wish Apple would provide the option for a user-specific install option, since plugins can really sneak up on an unsuspecting user.
3. How To
Once youve installed SIMBL, you need to drop some bundles into the Plugins folder. (/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins) SIMBL scans this folder for bundles each time an application launches. It will check both the Local and User domain for this special folder.
This means that it will check ~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins before looking in /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins. Additionally, SIMBL detects if you have two conflicting plugins and prevents potentially undesirable behavior by only loading one.
SIMBL plugins are nothing more than standard Cocoa bundles created by XCode, with the addition of one key in the Info.plist. For further information, you can read the SIMBL section in my brief tutorial on Cocoa hacking.
SIMBL was originally created when I was working on PithHelmet, but here are now a bunch of SIMBL plugins available. If you dont see yours listed, feel free to edit the list on the wiki.

UVConverter 1.1.2

UVConverter 1.1.2

UVConverter - Universal command-line Vietnamese encoding converter more>>
UVConverter is a universal command-line Vietnamese encoding converter which supports all popular charsets/encodings (Unicode, UTF8, TCVN3, VNI...).

Notes: If you convert a document, say in UTF-8, to VIQR while there are also VIQR sequences present in the document, the result may be undesirable. For example: "ho.c tie^ng Vie^.t" will be converted to "ho.c tie^ng vie^.t", because uvconv will insert escape characters for the tone marks. To disable this behaviour, set the option -m.

This release for Mac OS X adds the ISC and VNI-MAC encodings to those implemented in Pham Kim Long’s original UVConverter. The VNI encoding of the original version has been renamed VNI-WIN.

Grackle Probe X 1.4

Grackle Probe X 1.4

Grackle Probe accelerates Grackle based Macs that are using the Quartz Extreme PCI hack thats been mentioned recently more>> Grackle Probe accelerates Grackle based Macs that are using the Quartz Extreme PCI hack thats been mentioned recently. Grackle Probe could accelerate Grackle based Macs that have high-performance PCI cards, without needing to use the Quartz Extreme PCI hack or any undesirable side effects that QE has. It is not known what the compatibility or the side effects of enabling PCI Store Gathering is.
Requirements:
Mac OS X 10.2 or later, one of the follow Mac models:
  • PowerMac G3 (Beige)
  • PowerMac G3 (Blue & White)
  • iMac G3 233MHz -> 333MHz
  • PowerBook G3 Series (Wallstreet?), Apr 1998
  • PowerBook G3 Series (Lombard?), Apr 1999
  • possibly other older G3 PowerMacs or PowerBooks.
Enhancements:
Version 1.4 adds the following:
  • Version 1.4 is more reliable on OS X 10.2.0 now due to switching back to the GCC 3.1 compiler.
  • Changed GrackleProbe so it is suitable for dropping into /Library/StartupItems.
  • Now comes with grackletool. When GrackleProbe is loaded, executing grackletool will display a bunch of information about the Grackle chip.
  • Grackletool will display the SDRAM CAS settings the Grackle memoryx controller is configured for. If you have CL 3 RAM, the SDRAM CAS setting is like 3. If you have CL 2 RAM, the CAS setting might or might not be 2. The firmware calculates this really early at startup.
  • There may or may not be an incompatibility with the ACARD 6820 IDE PCI card. Two people with this card have reported a panic. Im looking into this.

controlAid 1.97

controlAid 1.97

controlAid - help maximize the use of MIDI controllers more>>
controlAid was designed to help maximize the use of MIDI controllers with Live or any program that allows you to assign onscreen controls to MIDI messages.
Main features:
- outputs MIDI data it receives to a user selected channel. You can choose which channel controlAid outputs to with any knob/pedal/fader that sends CC messages.
- many programs let you MIDI map controls on different channels. One common use for controlAid is with MIDI maps in which all controls (such as pan, volume, aux sends etc) use the same note on or cc messages from track to track, but on different MIDI channels. By using controlAid to select which channel you are outputting to, you can in effect select which track or device your MIDI controller is sending data to.
- when a channel is selected, the track the channel number corresponds to is automatically selected and highlighted in Live so that you can view the effects for it.
- converts mouse movements for the entire screen to three different sets of user defined CC messages. Each set can be turned on/off individually, or they can be used simultaneously. When used with the 1->many option this allows you to control unlimited knobs/faders/buttons/notes using only your mouse.
- The velocities/values of noteon/cc messages can be assigned min/max values or inverted. This is useful when used with the one-to-many feature described next.
- allows you to have unlimited "one-to-many" noteOn or cc triggers. When these notes or cc messages are received, controlAid will create unlimited additional cc / note on messages as defined by the user. Examples of use include triggering multiple one-shot clips with a single note, or controlling the cutoff frequency for the filters of all your tracks / instruments with a single knob, slider or pedal. You can use the invert, max and min capabilities of controlAid to setup all kinds of special crossfades between different effects using the one-to-many function. All MIDI messages generated using mouseMode are sent through these transformations.
- allows you to map the noteOn and CC messages that your controllers create to three different virtual outputs via a small matrix. This is very useful for controlling multiple programs simultaneously. One example would be to send noteOn messages from a controller to a Reason synth but not to Live so that you dont have to worry about accidentally triggering audio clips. The CC messages from the same controller could then be mapped to both Live and Reason if desired, or have the CC messages going to Live while only the notes go to Reason.
- converts program change messages to note on messages for people with foot controllers that only send program change.
- allows you to delete a selected clip in Live using a user-defined note on message. This is useful for deleting clips from a pedalboard in the event you create an undesirable loop.
- clipFill mode is an optimized way to quickly loop through a user defined range of slots using a single note on message. This allows a user to quickly record into a predefined number of slots and then immediately start triggering them for playback, all using a single switch pedal or note.
- the channel selected for output can be incremented or decremented using the cmd+5 and the cmd+6 key combinations. This allows you to select which channel controlAid is transmitting on using a device like the Griffin Powermate, or any other external device than can trigger keystrokes.
- cmd+7, cmd+8, cmd+9, cmd+0 allow you to trigger four midi notes of your choice using the keyboard. The keystrokes can also be triggered via an external device such as the Griffin Powermate. cmd+4 allows you do delete clips in Live from one of these devices.
- controlAid can merge two MIDI inputs.
Enhancements:
- Added channel split feature to i/o section.
- Added greater ability to split notes from their cc values and route to different outputs.
- Added "help" button for quicker online help access.
- Really fixed the bug that was supposedly fixed in 1.81. No, really. 1.81 Fixed bug that would cause controlAid to crash when two MIDI devices with the same port names were being used. Midi Devices are now identified by their model and port name in the i/o menu, and are also each assigned a unique ID number to prevent the bug.

HenWen 2.1.2

HenWen 2.1.2

HenWen - Network security package runs Snort. more>>
HenWen is a network security package for Mac OS X that makes it easy to configure and run Snort, a free Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS).
HenWen is a software with only one goal - to simplify setting up and maintaining software that will scan network traffic for undesirable traffic a firewall may not block.
Everything you need to have is bundled in; there is no compiling or command line use necessary. A NIDS has a number of practical uses on a network. For people that use Mac OS X Server or otherwise provide network services with their Macs, a NIDS will inform the administrator that someone from a specific place on the network is trying to scan the server for possible vulnerabilities, or try to compromise security.
A NIDS can also scan the network for bad TCP or ICMP traffic, or traffic that suggests someone on the network (or the local computer) is trying to do something that the network administrator does not want them doing (ie. trading pirated software or using software theyre not supposed to be using).
While a NIDS is mainly used by network administrators, a NIDS is also a useful thing for home users to have as well, especially for home users who are always connected to the Internet and/or have a home network installed.
Enhancements:
- Restored compatibility with Mac OS X 10.2.x.
- Fixed a problem which made it impossible to edit variables and rules under Mac OS X 10.4.x.
- The "Launch Snort as a startup item" menu item works again under Mac OS X 10.4.x.
