Rosetta Stone 1.0.6
Hebrew-language tutoring application. more>>
Rosetta Stone 1.0.6 brings a wonderful Hebrew-language tutoring application which is useful for students. By recording which words you are getting wrong and reviewing those words more frequently, the program adapts your program of study to your individual needs. Contrast this to the standard method of learning using lists of words on paper - the words you already know get the same attention as words you don't. Words can be reviewed from English to Hebrew or Hebrew to English, and reviewed in random order so you are not remembering them from their position in the list. Statistics are provided and allow you to set personal goals for each session.
By allowing you to filter on the frequency a word occurs in a typical Hebrew text, the program allows you to better target a vocabulary appropriate to your level of knowledge - be that beginner or advanced. In any language, some words are more common than others. For example, "the" occurs more than "zoo" in a standard English text. Typically, if a student knows the top 200 most often used words, they can recognise over 50% of what they are reading. By filtering on the word frequency, you can learn the more common words before the least common, again making your study more efficient.

aTypeTrainer4Mac 2.1
Advanced multilingual typing tutor more>>
A multilingual typing tutor for Mac OS X. It is an advanced version of TypeTrainer4Mac. All of the system keyboard layouts (but not input methods!) as well as a wide variety of non-system keyboard layouts (i.e. Dvorak, Colemak or custom layouts being built using Ukelele) are completely or partially supported.
You have to type a mixed-string of random characters. You can customize a character set at each of the 30 levels, and thus, you can control the learning process. You can also import texts from TextEdit, from Mail or from your web browser. Each session provides two run logs, one in RTFD format and one in HTML format. The RTFD log is generated at the end of each session and suitable for printing as well as close inspection. The HTML log is generated at the start of each session and actualized every second. Therefore, it is suitable for following the typing process. Thus, teachers get an actual oversight of the typing protocol of all pupils/students of their class at any given moment of time. In the Preferences, you can adjust a host of settings in order to make your typing exercises to your liking.

Raw Photo Processor 3.6
Raw Photo Processor - a RAW converter, supporting almost all available digital RAW formats more>>
We just got fed up with those converters made by programmers for their upper management :)
Think of it as of a development machine in terms of film photography - first you have to develop your roll right, then do whatever you want with it.
So this is NOT a full featured photo processing package, you will need Photoshop or some other tool to apply sharpness, cropping and so on, but you may use RPP for some very limited amount of operations.
Let me list those operations below with some explanations:
4-channel white balance - this is probably the most important operation in RAW processing and it has to be applied at very early stages of processing.
- Exposure compensation - another very sensitive step, should use high precision math to preserve shadows and highlights and it is almost impossible to make it properly during post-processing in Photoshop.
- Saturation - very tricky operation, because it has to account for specifics in humans color perception and traditionally its implemented with very crude methods. Im trying to keep up with Color Science and using a lot more sophisticated approach.
- Brightness and contrast - these represent my and Iliahs Borg attempts to create tone curve adjustments based on actual film density measures in different development modes. After all you finally should be able to obtain that dearly-looking film-like tonality in your pictures.
- Interpolation - RPP supports 3 methods at the moment. AHD, VNG and Half - all modified versions of Dave Coffins implementations in dcraw. Actually Half is not interpolation - this is a half resolution recombination when four single-colored pixels (RGBG) combined to one RGB, very fast, color accurate, but at price of lost resolution.
- Highlights recovery - a simple tool to neutralize clipped channels if present (f.e. the "pink sky" problem).
Enhancements:
- New feature - monochrome mode. This includes Photobrom Black, Bromportret Sepia, Iodocont Green, Iodocont Blue and experimental Red-O-Green profiles. All made by Iliah Borg as always. All of them measured from real photo papers. In this mode channel balance sliders act like a channel mixer, so you may adjust influence of each channel on overall tonality individually.
- Added custom profile for Olympus E410.
- Help menu - provide feedback and copy crash log to clipboard (so you can paste to email for me). Also it gives easy access to RPPs document file.
- Copy Tags option state is preserved between restarts and also now it copies embedded to Raw IPTC info (if you have any).
- Fixed red dots issue AKA weird colors in clipped highlights or shadows.
- Other fixes and UI tweaks. F.e. Local Contrast may be disabled now without loosing its value and you may quickly check its effect on an image.

ContraSense 1.6
ContraSense - You drive a tiny car against incoming traffic! No brakes! more>>
Morse Mania is a morse code tutor for the Macintosh. Morse Mania provides the following three modules to help you learn morse code: Learn Characters - Each morse code character is displayed on the screen as it is being played. This is useful when youre first learning the morse code alphabet, as it helps you link each sound to the corresponding character. Guess a Character - Morse code characters are played, and you must type the key of the character sent. At the end of the exercise, your score is displayed. Copy Groups - Random five letter morse code character groups are sent (and displayed on the screen). You select how many morse code groups you would like to have sent, and practice by copying the groups down. At the end of the exercise, compare what you copied to what was actually sent.

Klavaro 1.2.0
Just another free touch typing tutor program more>> Just another free touch typing tutor program
Klavaro is a free, open source and very flexible touch typing tutor, supporting customizable keyboard layouts.
You can edit and save new or unknown keyboard layouts, as the basic course was designed to not depend on specific ones. Also, there are some charts about the learning process.
Klavaro intends to be keyboard and language independent, saving memory and time (and money).
Main features:
- Internationalization: English, Bangla/Bengali, Czech, Dutch, Esperanto, French, German, Hungarian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Urdu and Vietnamese. If you want to translate to another language, please read the instructions for translation.
- Ready to use keyboard layouts:, "qwerty" (BR; BR_abnt2; CZ; EL; ES; HE; IT; JP; PT; SE; TR; UK; UR_crulp; UR_nla; US), Dvorak (BR; FR; TR; UK; US; US_BR; US_ES; US_SE), "qwertz" (CZ; DE; HU), "azerty" (FR; FR_ibook; BE), "jtsuken" (RU), AlphaGrip5 (US)
- Keyboard layout editor: makes possible to configure the keys positions and to save the result in a simple text file. If your keyboard isnt shown above, you can create it. If you need to do it, please let us know about.
- Basic course: a basic type of course is available for memorizing the keys positions on the keyboard. It is supposed to be independent from keyboard layout, by the generation of random character sequences to be followed by the student.
- Adaptability exercises: these exercises use all the keys ramdonly, so that you can practice using all the keyboard. Its named adaptability exercise because it develops the capacity to adapt your typing skills to any kind of strange words that may appear in some texts.
- Velocity exercises: one achieves velocity on typing when the environment is well known, or, when the words come from ones own language. Thats why these exercises focus on velocity. And even if your language isnt supported by the application, you still can indicate texts in any language to include the words contained there.
- Fluidness exercises: with these exercises, one works typing complete paragraphs, with good sense sentences. Typing errors arent accepted: the user must correct them with the backspace key before be allowed to go on. Especial attention is given to the typing rhythm, which must be as uniform as possible. Just like the velocity exercises, this one here makes possible to load any text files, independently of language.
- Progress charts: at the accomplishment of each exercise, some characteristics of your performance are saved and can be showed graphically. Thus, you can easily observe your learning progress (or regress).
- Including other texts: facilities to import extern text and use them with the advanced modules (velocity / fluidness). You can launch an usual dialog to select a local file of the system; you can paste text already copied to the clipboard; and more, you can select, drag and drop text at the entry box in the bottom of the tutor window. This two last facilities work, for example, with text selected in your browser, from any prefered page of yours.
- Semi-online contest: for the last training module (fluidness), there is a scoring scheme to rank users accordingly to their touch typing skills. The ranking is done only locally, for users in a shared machine, or it may be enabled to send the local data to a web server, where they will be proccessed and a global ranking will be publicly available. This last case can be applied only in Linux based systems (see Requisites). Then the program would be running as a "online" game.
- Clean graphical interface: when learning to type correctly, one must not get the attention off the exercises. So, it isnt recommended neither to have dozens of gauges measuring velocity, errors, time, etc; nor a virtual keyboard floating in front of the student: he/she must memorize the key positions by the tact, not visually. Hence, Klavaros interface started simple and will remain like that for all of its lifetime.
Enhancements
- This version presents a completely new look and feel for the interface, though the whole program is basically the same.
- Big changes were made in the code to transition from from... Glade-2 to GtkBuilde
