iPhoto allows easy import of photos from disks. But if these pictures have been modified, you have to choose to import the modified or the original version. This forces you to keep originals outside iPhoto (double management), or else import originals and redo modifications (!).
iPhoto: import originals is an iPhoto AppleScript that enables you to import originals of pictures modified before importation.
First, import your images, modified or not. Then use this script to import originals of modified pictures. Henceforth, the "revert to the original" item of the "Photos" menu is available, your originals are well organized. This import is made by copy, as iPhoto does. You should remove the duplicates from your disk (after archiving? just to be safe).

Scale to Mail is an AppleScript droplet that allows you to drag your image files on it and specify a percentage value. The resized images will appear directly in a new Apple Mail message. Original files remain untouched.

You can define a fixed percentage value or a fixed target width for example to get your scaled images even faster to your friends.
All pictures with color space CMYK will be changed in RGB mode automatically. This only effects the pictures in mail and not the original files.

During the process a temp folder with the resized images is created on the desktop. Afterwards it will be moved to the trash.
