Boot Log 1.1 is a distinguished and easy to use program that runs on OS-X to grab the user name you booted up as and saves a log in the user's prefs folder called 'boot log'.
This log is added to every time the program is executed so it is suggested to make the program part of the startup items in a user's system preferences. The only known issue is that it currently does not save the file in a common place for global accesses across different users. It is suggested that you use 10.1 or later version of OS-X as the user name lookup routine doesn't work well with the earlier versions of OS-X. The source code is included.

It uses the iChat preferences for figuring out which accounts to log in.

The MacNetlogon dialog box is presented to the user just after the computer finishes starting up but before the Finder loads. If the user successfully logs on, then the Finder is started. The user does not have to restart the computer to log off. A menu item is added to the 'Special' menu in the Finder, allowing the user to logoff and bring up the logon dialog box for someone else to logon. There is also a local administration username and password, so that administrators can access the machine even if the network in unavailable.

You can configure two timeout periods. The first timeout period will cause an Apple Event to fire telling the Finder to log out. If that log out fails due to an unresponsive application or unsaved changes, the second timeout period begins. At the end of the second timeout, the user will be logged out forcibly.
