To add variety, it wont play any of the last 10 tracks it has already picked. That little gimmicky feature is really the only thing this program does that other programs dont.
I had a similar alarm system set up in Windows, and basically I wanted the same thing in Mac OS X.

Kotoba 1.2.2 is known as a smart and useful aid for increasing your Japanese vocabulary (and can also be used to learn Korean, Chinese, and so forth). It is based on the not so unconventional idea that increased exposure to words will help consolidate your memory of them. The implementation of this idea is by repeatedly showing words in a small window that you can keep visible in the background while you work on your stuff.
The program can be set to show the kanji first, then the kana reading, and the translation and any possible comments, or vice versa. Words can be displayed manually, using navigation buttons or the arrow keys, or automatically via an adjustable timer. Multiple dictionaries can be created and edited. Editing is very flexible as Kotoba supports drag-and-drop, searching, as well as import and export of text files.

VocabBuilder is Tiger-only, but it makes good use of Tigers built-in dictionary. VocabBuilder keeps a list of words that it displays under the Desktop on the left side of the screen. At any time, you can use Expose to show the underlying window and use command-control-D to display a definition. Couldnt be handier.
