DOSBox 0.73
Free and open source DOS-emulator for your Mac. more>> Free and open source DOS-emulator for your Mac.
DOSBox is a DOS-emulator that uses the SDL-library which makes DOSBox very easy to port to different platforms. DOSBox has already been ported to many different platforms, such as Windows, BeOS, Linux, Mac OS X.
Its statically compiled against SDL and built upon the Cocoa, Carbon, OpenGL, QuickTime, and AudioUnit frameworks.
DOSBox also emulates CPU:286/386 realmode/protected mode, Directory FileSystem/XMS/EMS, Tandy/Hercules/CGA/EGA/VGA/VESA graphics, a SoundBlaster/Gravis Ultra Sound card for excellent sound compatibility with older games.
This is a rather trivial port of DOSBox to MacOS X. What if you just want to play some old games? This port of DOSBox may be your answer.
Its statically compiled against SDL, is built upon the Cocoa, Carbon, OpenGL, QuickTime, and AudioUnit frameworks, and thus, is only MacOS 10.3.x (or Panther) compatible. It has partial protected mode emulation, a subset of VESA 1.2 functionality (800x600x8) via S3 Trio emulation, and internal modem support via the SDL_net framework.
You can "re-live" the good old days with the help of DOSBox, it can run plenty of the old classics that dont run on your new computer.

Python 3.1.1 is a multi-purpose, highly customizable programming language. It is often compared to Tcl, Perl, Scheme or Java. Python combines remarkable power with very clear syntax. It has modules, classes, exceptions, very high level dynamic data types, and dynamic typing. There are interfaces to many system calls and libraries, as well as to various windowing systems (X11, Motif, Tk, Mac, MFC). New built-in modules are easily written in C or C++.
Python is also usable as an extension language for applications that need a programmable interface. The Python implementation is portable: it runs on many brands of UNIX, on Windows, DOS, OS/2, Mac, Amiga... If your favorite system isn't listed here, it may still be supported, if there's a C compiler for it. Ask around on comp.lang.python -- or just try compiling Python yourself.

PteroSplit 0.1
PteroSplit - file split and recover application more>>
After having searched the web I realized that there wasnt an application suitable for my needs: some applications were not free, some did not work on both (Windows and Mac OSx) platforms and most of them did not provide a simple way to recover the original file from the created fragments.
In fact, the problem of recovering the fragments is not difficult to solve if someone is used to DOS and unix shell, but I wanted something that could be used easily from everybody.
Betrayal at Krondor 1.0
Betrayal at Krondor - Classic DOS game Krondor now on a Mac more>>
I am making available a stand-alone Mac OS X application bundle for the old fantasy role-playing game Betrayal at Krondor from Dynamix.
Betrayal at Krondor, which is originally a DOS game, was released as freeware a few years after its release to promote the sequel.
The game naturally does not run natively in Mac OS X -- it is run transparently through the DOSBox emulator, an open-source project which creates a DOS-like virtual environment from which old games can run without compatibility problems.
Unfortunately, DOSBox is quite slow, so in order to run the game with decent responsiveness, I recommend that all graphics be set to minimum quality and game sounds and music be entirely switched off.
