Scan Again 1.0
Scan Again - A GUI front-end for SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy) more>>
These were originally developed for Linux, but work on other operating systems, including Mac OS X.
I had this problem with an HP scanner I picked up at a rummage sale, and was able to get it to work using SANE. The trouble was that the SANE utilities are all command-line, and I got tired of typing.
I decided to make a GUI shell to interface with the command-line utilities, and I did this using RealBasic .
The resulting program runs the command-line utilities for you. It searches for scanners, putting the results into a pop-up at the top of the window ( see screen shot ).
It then interrogates the selected scanner for available options, and populates the spinners and pop-ups with the options available for the given scanner.
StarMiner 1.0
StarMiner - You are lost in space with only limited fuel more>>
Connect 3 stars of the same colour and they will explode, automatically providing valuable fuel for your spaceship. If you run out of fuel, your spaceship will implode and you will lose a life. When a star is nearby, a marker will appear at the edge of the screen showing the colour and direction of the star. Use these for planning star groupings in the quickest possible time.
When stars explode, other stars may drift off into space. Collect them again for bonus points. The more you use your Thrust, the quicker your fuel will disappear! As the game progresses, thrusting uses more and more fuel, so be careful!

Makarra 1.0b3
Makarra is the ultimate font manager more>>
In Makarras jargon, "forever" means "the font is in your user fonts folder, so the font will be active this session, and the next, and the next, until you remove it from there". And "temporary" means "font is not copied nowhere, and it will remain active only until you restart or logout or reboot or...".
If you open Makarra, youll se three lists:
- User Fonts: fonts at your user folder. If you drop files/folders here, all fonts will be copied there.
- Temporary Fonts: fonts active only the current session. These fonts are activated on-the-fly and will be deactivated next time you log-out/restart.
- Deactivated Fonts: here are stored file paths of every font file youve deactivated. You can activate them again.
Also, youll find some buttons:
- Add... (near to User Fonts): click to choose font to activate "forever".
- Deactivate (near to User Fonts): click to deactivate selected font/s.
- Manage Inactive: When you deactivate a User Font, this is moved to a folder called "deleted fonts", located at Makarras folder. You can re-activate these fonts.
- Add... (near to Temporary Fonts): click to choose font to activate until next session.
- Deactivate (near to Temporary Fonts): click to deactivate selected font/s. These items go down to "Deactivated Fonts", where you can activate them again.
- Activate Temporary: self-explaining.
- Activate Forever: self-explaining (to User Fonts).
- Remove: from database.

iFob 2.0
iFob can be considered a small key chain thing you put in your pocket more>> iFob can be considered a small key chain thing you put in your pocket
Fob is software which turns iPhones & laptops into wireless Icebreaking Beacons.
You download iFob and then take about 30 seconds to put in your tagline, something like, "I like coffee," and then when you go anyplace where other people have iFob installed on their iPhones or laptops, your "I am Here" taglines get exchanged with each other.
iFob isnt a MySpace, dating or a Facebook site. iFob is not a site at all.
With iFob all the virtual crud and un-reality disappears because the broadcasting and receiving is ultra close by and local: people only see taglines of others who are in the same physical places. "See," means that your iFob software will light up and show a list of all the other iFobs who are right there, right now, in the same hotspot.
A definition of Fob is any small key chain thing you put in your pocket. The "i" is because it is for iPhone and iPod and you and i. Of course iFob works on PCs and Macs too, but iPC sounded too much like "I am P.C.", which you and I are not.
Main features:
- Public Taglines that any iFob user can see.
- Add more detailed public information about yourself.
- Add additional private information that you can chose which iFob users may see.
- Chat with other iFob users who are in the same hotspot.
- Is not a web site: iFob is software that is installed on your iPhone, iPod or laptop.
- Mark other iFob users as "interesting" if you would like to pay attention to in the future.
- Visual and sound indicators when other iFob users come into the room.
- Block iFob users based on whether or not they are boring so you will never be bored by them again.
- Versions for iPod touch, iPhone, Windows PCs and Mac Intel laptops.
- Works with any wireless network which your iPod, iPhone or laptop can connect with.
- iPod and iPhone version are 100% free.
- No subscription fees.
- No advertising or any other kind of hassleware.
- iFob is extremely easy to use.
- Ultra simple "profiles" with no required fields.
- No having to define categories for yourself.
System requirements:
- iPhone
Enhancements
- Unified look-and feel of other Apple approved native iPhone software apps.
- Tight integration of image inclusion for adding custom Avatars and Graphics to your iFob profiles.
- Ability to real-space-real-time locate other willing iFob users from GPS-like cell-tower triangulation.
- Just for fun, a new graphical slider UI to indicate how you think of yourself: Boring? Interesting? A socialite? A lurker? For example, you can now use iFob to broadcast to other close by iFob users that you are someone who is 70% interesting and only 10% a lurker.

CatDV 8.0.3
CatDV is regarded as a convenient and professional program which is designed for both standalone and networked operation. more>>
CatDV 8.0.3 is regarded as a convenient and professional program which is designed for both standalone and networked operation.
CatDV is highly scalable so it meets the needs of everyone from individuals all the way through to studios and large production houses:
- Standalone Products
- Networked Products
Despite its name (and the ubiquitousness of the DV format), CatDV is designed for all kinds of digital video and media files, not just DV but also including MPEG-2, MXF, MPEG-4, HDV, Uncompressed, WMV, OMFI, JPEG, WAV, and much more.
Major Features:
- "iTunes/iPhoto for movies"
- Apple's iLife apps are great for MP3s and digital photos but CatDV will do the same for movies and tapes. What's more, CatDV works down to the level of clips and scenes within a movie file or on a tape, described by their timecode, not just at the coarse level of complete files on disk.
- Logging tool
- Don't wear out your tape and deck by shuffling it back and forwards as you identify the scenes to use and annotate them. Capture the tape to disk (in compressed form) and log from disk, giving you instant access to any portion of the tape. Use automatic scene detection to take the drudgery out of finding scene boundaries, or use the Verbatim Logger to type in comments, such as notes on the spoken dialogue or the text for subtitles, while the clip is playing - everything you type will automatically be linked to the appropriate timecode.
- "QuickTime Pro"
- QuickTime 7 is fantastic technology. It's much more than a file format but a complete set of components for creating and manipulating all kinds of media files (including MPEG-4 files and the amazing H.264/AAC codecs). However, not all its capabilities are available with the standard QuickTime Player application. CatDV unlocks many of the same extra capabilities as QuickTime Pro: you can play movies, present them full screen, edit movies by assembling clips in sequence, and export them using any QuickTime codec (for example to use on the web, CD-ROM, or a 3G phone).
- If you have a video-capable iPod, use CatDV to generate iPod-compatible videos of all your key footage and take it with you, wherever you are.
- Batch movie conversion
- CatDV goes further than QuickTime Pro and lets you batch compress multiple movies, and you can easily export not just whole movies but also individual scenes from within a movie file, or even a complete program defined by an edit decision list.
- Media asset management
- CatDV will catalog all your media assets, not just video tapes but also still images, audio files, Flash files, PDFs, etc. With powerful metadata capabilities (both extracted automatically and entered by the user) that can be used for searching and filtering, CatDV will help you organise all those assets - and retrieve them again when you need them.
- Advanced workflows
- You might have video files coming in via FTP, or a tapeless camera such as the Sony XDCAM, often with metadata in an associated XML file. You can use CatDV's XML support, and features like watch folders, to build complex automated workflows that preserve your existing metadata, and allow you to add new tags and annotations, at every stage of the process.
- Video editing
- Mark and in and out points and quickly create a cuts-only sequence from the clips you've found, all from within your asset management database. Export your edited sequence as a movie, or send an edit decision list to Final Cut Pro (or other non-linear editing application) to finish the editing there.
- Subtitling and text tracks
- With CatDV you can quickly and easily add text tracks when exporting movies. Perhaps you want to add subtitles, the clip or project name, or protect your clips by burning in a copyright notice. You can even add a burnt-in display of the timecode or date and time of recording (in the style of a security camera).
- Web page generation
- Use CatDV to export web pages with thumbnails and links to low bandwidth versions of your media files, perhaps to advertise a library of stock clips, or create a film strip version of an edited programme to show on your intranet.
- Diagnostic tool
- Got a file that won't play properly? CatDV's media analysis tool will display detailed information about the format of the file and individual tracks within it, even down to the durations of individual samples, helping you identify missing codecs, corrupt movies, or dropped frames. CatDV will even natively analyse many formats not supported by QuickTime, such as WMV/ASF and OMF files.
- Read more about CatDV's core features or some suggested workflows.
- Any one of these tools on their own could easily save you so much time that CatDV quickly pays for itself, but taken together they mean that CatDV is a completely indispensable tool for anyone who works with digital video and digital media files. What's more, it's completely cross-platform.
- Even if you only use a few of its features regularly, it's great to have the others available for those odd occasions when you suddenly need them.
Enhancements: Improved event marker functionality.

Unhide Desktop Folder
This tool allows you to make the Desktop Folder visible in the network again if youve installed OS 9.1 or 9.2, which has made it invisible on the network. Just drop your volumes onto this tool and their Desktop Folders will re-appear when seen as mounted AppleShare volumes.
Additional feature: You can also have the folder renamed so that it appears like any other folder in the root dir of your hard disk. The items will then, of course, disappear from your desktop area, but you can always move them back there again (for this feature, hold down the Option key when dropping a volume onto this tool).
Change File Visibility
This tool allows you to make any hidden file or folder visible, or hide them again. This is very handy to get rid of all the OS X files and folders that come pre-installed on your Macs nowadays: Simple drop your hard disk icon onto this tool, and you will see all items on the root of your disk. Change the checkboxes for all hideen items such as dev, bin, etc to make them visible, then use the Finder to move them all to the Trash.
