Free text analysis software for mac

Sequence editing, reverse complement, protein translation, ORF finding, secondary structure, composition, isoelectric point, primer design, pairwise comparison, publish layout, sequence reformatting. Fetches sequence entries directly from the NCBI via Accession number or GID. Reads most sequence formats.
This (Java) application is a collage of coding projects which I have written over the past several years for various clients in my work as a bioinformatics consultant. These clients have graciously allowed me to release these works into the public domain as freeware.

Chi-Square Analysis is a standalone Macintosh application that calculates the chi-square statistic for 2x2 to 10x10 contingency tables. Also calculates the contingency, phi, and kappa statistics.

ASCA Profile Analysis is a Macintosh EXCEL spreadsheet template created to perform the syndromic profile analysis of Adjustment Scale for Children and Adolescents scores.

Text Tools is a OSAX that adds commands that allow you to use some Toolbox routines in the Mac OS.
The most commands won’t require special skills, except for two commands that get variables of Script Manager.

Mac ChiSquare Analysis calculates chi-square statistic as well as phi, contingency, and kappa coefficients from up to a 10 x 10 table.

The chi-square test is used to compare the distributions of two independent samples. It is used with data in the form of frequencies. It is a nonparametric procedure that makes no assumptions about distribution shapes, variances, or levels of measurement (Diekhoff, 1996).

The chi-square test evaluates the correspondence between the expected and the observed number of cases in each of the cells of the variable by variable contingency table (Thompson, 1988). It is a test of whether or not a null hypothesis of no association should be rejected between the two independent variables.

If the chi-square test shows that there is a relationship between the two variables, then the contingency coefficient gives an indication of the degree of the relationship. (Bruning & Kintz, 1997). The contingency coefficient is similar in meaning to the correlation coefficient.

Cramers phi coefficient is a measure of association that is also similar to a correlation coefficient. It can assume a value between 0 and +1. See Sheskin (2000) for further detail.

Kappa is calculated when the rows and columns are symmetrical. Kappa is often used to examine inter-observer agreement and reflects the amount of agreement beyond chance (Norman & Streiner, 2000).

Text wallet is a simple panel for storing and recalling to the clipboard frequently used text strings, just write to permanently store to disk, just touch text field for auto-copying text to the clipboard -ready to paste. Text strings may be multi-line.
Main features:
- Add as many fields as you need by clicking top button
- Texts can be complex, including multi-line texts
- Recall and auto-copy to clipboard text strings simply by clicking on a text field, or giving it focus, or typing into text field
- Double click on text field to paste
- Remove text fields by clicking "x" button near unwanted field
- To paste a text in a new field ot text wallet, copy the text from it source and then push top button, the text will be auto-pasted
- Text wallet auto-collapse to bar, auto-expand when mouse enters
- Application will auto-save all entries when you quit.
