TeXShop 2.26
A great Tex previewer, for Mac OS X, written in Cocoa. more>> A great Tex previewer, for Mac OS X, written in Cocoa.
TeXShop is a very useful tool, a TeX previewer for Mac OS X, written in Cocoa.
Since pdf is a native file format on OS X, TeXShop uses "pdftex" and "pdflatex" rather than "tex" and "latex" to typeset; these programs in the standard teTeX distribution of TeX produce pdf output instead of dvi output.
TeX is a typesetting program by Donald Knuth, used extensively in mathematics, computer science, physics, economics, and other fields.
For a history of the development of TeX, see Just What Is TeX. Consult the TeX Users Group Web Site for additional information.
To use TeXShop, you need to learn TeX or LaTeX.
Enhancements
- The TeXShop/Engines/Inactive folder contains two scripts from Daniel Becker which call texcount to count active words in a TeX source file. These engines were promised in 2.25 but erroneously omitted. They are in 2.26. To obtain them, quit TeXShop and move the entire Engines folder from ~/Library/TeXShop to the Desktop. Then restart TeXShop. TeXShop will create a new Engines folder. Merge in any changes you have made in the old Engines folder on the desktop to the new folder.
- Juan Luis Varona sent new Program and Encoding macros which display the various choices, so it is not necessarily to look up the wording of these choices. A few days later, Ramon M. Figueroa-Centeno send similar but fancier macros. Ramons macros are now in TeXShop. To obtain them, quit TeXShop and move the entire Macros folder from ~/Library/TeXShop to the Desktop. Then restart TeXShop. TeXShop will create a new Macros folder. Merge in any changes you made to the old Macros on the desktop to the new copy, using the Macro Editor.
- A memory leak introduced by the code to split the Preview window in 2.25 is fixed. The bug was similar to the old flaw in PDFKit which caused memory to be gradually used up when typesetting a document many times, but this time the bug was caused by me.
- A bug in the zoom code for the preview window when using multiple monitors is fixed.
- A bug which caused TeXShop to ignore a "% !TEX TS-program = ..." command when typesetting from a file with an associated root file is fixed.
- The French localization is improved.
- A localization error caused the "Split Window" icon on the Preview Window toolbar to display strange text. This is fixed.
- A bug caused the Preview Windows toolbar to vanish temporarily if the user tried to move certain text portions of the toolbar. This is fixed.
- One of the keyboard zoom shortcuts acted only on the top portion of the Preview window when split. This is fixed.
- The TeX mdimporter code distributed with TeXShop in 2.25 contained only i386 code. Now it contains code for both PPC and i386.
An editor and previewer for TeX on OS X. Indeed TeXShop is the front end included in MacTeX-2007, the standard distribution of “everything needed to run TeX on OS X, supporting TeX, LaTeXBibTeXtoWord 1.0
BibTeXtoWord 1.0 is a program that help users using MS Word control the bibliographic references in the papers users are writing. more>>
BibTeXtoWord 1.0 is a program that help users using MS Word control the bibliographic references in the papers users are writing. For those who are unfamiliar with LaTeX and bibtex let me explain how bibtex is used: The bibliographic references are contained in a .bib file which is simply a text file. Each entry in this data base is uniquely identified by a cite-key, which can be arbitrary with the exclusion of a few special characters.
When you want to cite a bibliographic reference in LaTeX you enter the command verb!cite{abc}! in your file, which is called the source file, where cq{abc} is the cite-key. When bibtex is called, it reads the cite-keys, looks up the corresponding references, sorts the references alphabetically and by year, replaces the cite-keys with the corresponding labels and prints a list of references at the end of your document. These changes do not take place in your source file but in the compiled output file which is nowadays a pdf file. References that should be part of the publications list but should not be referred to in the text have to be entered as verb!nocite{abc}! in the source file.
Requirements:
You need OS 10.5 or better and in addition
- A TeXLive installation; I recommend TeXLive 2008.
- TeXShop
- Flashmode
- Local Switcher
Flashmode 5.4
Simultaneous typesetting and viewing while typing more>> Simultaneous typesetting and viewing while typing
Flashmode is a tool that enables simultaneous typesetting as Textures did. When Flashmode is started, it looks for the front most document in TeXShop, gets its path and after that it is hooked for ever to this document as long as it stays open, i.e., a few split seconds after Flashmode has started the front most document in the TeXShop could be anything without doing any harm.
Then Flashmode checks in regular intervals (default is 0.5 sec), the length of which is user definable, if its tex document has been modified, and if so, it initiates a save, a pdflatex run, and asks TeXShop to refresh the corresponding pdf file. Flashmode can be invoked even if a document isnt typeset yet, but beware that its first action will be a typesetting command.
An important feature is that tex syntax errors dont cause any error messages or disruptions of any kind, i.e., the pdf gets never corrupted, at least the pdf viewer is never aware of it, and the last refreshment is always visible; the last to compla
Thus, the user never gets any error messages; the presence of errors can only be deduced from the pdf window which then doesnt change any more; of course the errors will be reported in the log file and can be looked up.
When the tex document is unmodified, Flashmode stays put in the background with very little CPU load: on my machine the total load would be 200% and the idle Flashmode has about 2.7%, i.e., Flashmode can stay open as long as one wishes without any bad side effects.
While Flashmode is active, the source document can be typeset independently by TeXShop or by other scripts or commands, especially other tex tools like bibtex can be run without any interference by Flashmode.
System requirements:
- A large screen is recomended.
Enhancements
- Flashmode now runs on IntelMacs as well as PowerPCs.
- A menu Applications has been added that allows to start the other applications contained in the dmg.
- Note that those applications have to be installed in /Applications/.
- The application Paste is private and not included.

Applications that were tested and found to be supported out-of-the-box at at least one update source are: Adium X, Azureus, BBEdit, BitTorrent, Camino, Colloquy, DiVA, DivX, Fetch Art for iTunes, Fire, Flip4Mac WMV, Gizmo Project, Google Earth, goPod, Growl, HexEdit, iCab, iTerm, LAME mp3 Quicktime Components and Framework, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Suite, Mozilla Thunderbird, MPEG Streamclip, MPlayer OS X, OmniWeb, pearLyrics, Pod2Go, RealPlayer, ScummVM, Shiira, SixtyForce, Skype, StuffIt Expander, SubEthaEdit, TechTool Deluxe, Temperature Monitor, TeXShop, Toast Titanium, VLC media player, Xbench, XviD Quicktime Component.
Apart from those, many other applications are expected to work out-of-the-box as well. Others may require some additional configuration in the "Advanced" dialog. Please refer to the online-help.
Like for Widget Update, graphics were designed by Mike Pogran.
Setup
In order to make App Update find the applications you want to monitor for updates, you have to set the directory (or directories) where you keep them through the "Path Settings" dialog on App Updates back. It is recommended to organize your share- and freeware applications in seperate folders rather than dropping them all directly into the applications folder.
If you have used Widget Update before, you should feel right at home!
For additional information, please refer to the online help that can be opened at any time with the keyboard shortcut Shift+H.

pdfselect 2.5 is a beneficial and easy-to-use application which allows to extract pages from a pdf file by using the LaTeX package tit{pdfpages} by Andreas Matthias.
The pdf file has to be opened in TeXShop or Preview, then you can run pdfselect. The pages you want to extract should be given as list, e.g., begin{verbatim} 3,7-23,{},1 end{verbatim} entered in a dialogue window, will produce a pdf file containing the pages $3,7-23$ an empty page and page $1$ in that order. The paper size will be that of the original file. The string cq{-} will insert all pages, cq{$4-$} all pages starting with page 4 and cq{last$-1$} will produce a pdf file with pages in reverse order.

ViInputManager 0.3.1
ViInputManager is a vital and useful bundle patches the Cocoa Text System with which you can insert a Vi-like command mode. more>>
ViInputManager 0.3.1 is a vital and useful bundle patches the Cocoa Text System with which you can insert a Vi-like command mode. After entering command-mode (typically, by hitting escape in Vi), ordinary Vi commands can be typed and the text field will be updated accordingly. Essentially, this add Vi command functionality (albeit a small subset) to any (and all) text editors that use the Cocoa text system; e.g., Safari, TeXShop, XCode, etc. Note, however, this does not work for other programs that do not use the Cocoa system.
All the text windows, will initialize in "input" mode (standard cocoa text input). You invoke the Vi-command window (exit the input mode) by hitting ` (the back-apostrophe key, this is customizable, see installation instructions) and then key in your favorite Vi commands. For example, move down a line 'j', move right 'l', delete two lines 'd2d', and so on. You enter back into "input" mode by typing the 'i'. You get the idea. Right now, you should be thinking -- "you mean the editor in XCode will behave like Vi?" Answer: Yes.
Requirements: Mac OS X 10.4 or higher
