Sunspots Widget displays an image of the current sunspots.

The widget fetches SOHO s latest MDI picture from http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/sunspots/.

SOHO, the Solar & Heliospheric Observatory, is a spacecraft observing our Sun, launched in 1995 by the European Space Agency ESA and by the American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Well, lets face it, theres been pretty much nothing in terms of decent backup solutions for Mac without having to dig in your pockets. Even Apple (at the time this is written) only offer the "Backup" application if you sign up to their .mac account.

Now we love Apple, and the mac, but we feel that in todays climate of mass media and reducing paper systems, a backup application should be almost standard with every OS. Its true, Apples OSX does have some very good file manipulation software under the hood, but still, its very difficult to access for non-unix savy users.

So that is why weve decided to put a significant amount of work now and the future into "Phew", a decent backup app for Mac thats FREE.

Here are some key features of "Phew":

EdGCM permits teachers and students to explore the fundamentals of climate science utilizing tools identical to those used in major climate research programs.

Many simple climate experiments are possible (e.g. How does the sun warm the planet?), but, it is also possible to conduct in-depth investigations of current events, in near real-time, as they are being studied by climate scientists.

EdGCM comes with some pre-prepared scenarios for investigating a variety of interesting climate issues (global warming, ice ages), but teachers can, also, easily construct their own scenarios to satisfy curricular requirements.

EdGCM easily scales for use at levels from middle school to graduate school, making it a unique tool for linking research to the classroom.
Our future plans involve the creation of the EdGCM Cooperative, a network of researchers and educators actively collaborating on climate research projects.

A clever little screen saver that tosses randomly sized balls and boxes around and lets them do their thing. Great physics, and runs well on almost anything that can handle Mac OS X.

Audio-application containing all the Raga-based (i.e. Indian musical tones-based) Psalm-tunes and Refrains for the Psalms and Canticles created at St. Benedict Monastery.

Just select a Refrain, a Canticle or a Psalm-tune and listen to its music, as many times as you like.

PS2PDF and Friends is a collection of drag-and-drop AppleScripts that convert among different Adobe file types. The stars of the show are the PostScript to PDF converters, which emulate different settings of Acrobat Distiller. There are other useful file converters and optimizers as well.

iTunes keeps information about how often a song was played, but this information is not correct if it still plays my music when Im away from my Mac.

So this application will run silently in the background and watch for the screensaver. If the screensaver starts and iTunes is playing the playback is paused. As soon as the screensaver stops the music plays again.

This application was made in Realbasic in only 10 minutes. Some classes from the MBS Realbasic Plugin helped:

First we have a subclass of the CarbonApplicationEventsMBS class which receives an event from the system whenever an application is launched.

Using the ProcessMBS class we check whether the launched application is the screen saver and whether iTunes is running. In case iTunes runs we stop the music using an AppleScript which is compiled and executed using the AppleScriptMBS class.

In the event handler for terminating applications we check if this is the screen saver. In case the screen saver quits we tell iTunes to play again.

This application has no interface and it will quit if you log out but if you want to quit this app without logging out you can use the Process Viewer to quit the process.

Grammatica is a very useful bilingual grammar and spell checker for English, French, Spanish, and German.

The product provides sophisticated grammar suggestions and exhaustive spelling corrections, including a dictionary with hundreds of thousands of entries in each language.

The Quit All and Run script quits all open applications, foreground and background, and allows you to choose and open a program.

When you quit your application, the script will relaunch all the background applications (if there were any), otherwise itll just quit.
