PictureStories 1.4
PictureStories - Write stories where some words are replaced by images more>>
Lots of people have written cute little storybooks for kids that are like this, so I thought Id write an application that let me make them using online image search engines (of a folder on your hard drive).
Someone has probably had this idea before, but I couldnt find anything online anywhere, so I wrote it myself.
Enhancements:
- Google searching
- spell-check (on OSX)
- "open" command to load .txt files
- outputs in Unicode (UTF-16).

Sophie 1.0.6
Sophie is a reading tool. It is, arguably, the world?s best e-book reader more>>
The latest e-book, a collection of five extraordinary stories by Franz Kafka and his precursors, begins with a look at the deeper meaning of the term Kafkaesque. The preface to the Sophie e-book released earlier this year, H.G.
Wells The War of the Worlds, offers a more provocative and timely interpretation of the original science fiction classic than Stephen Spielbergs new blockbuster film starring Tom Cruise. All the Sophie e-books begin with an original and thought-provoking preface.
These e-books have many useful features as well as at least one delightfully useless feature. Two of the e-books, "JFK Witness" and Thoreaus "Walden" include guided tours created with the Sophie notebook tool.
This tool allows readers to create and share with others their own indexed and commented "readings" of important texts. Sophies search feature lists the chapter and the phrase for each occurrence of a search string.
On the more or less useless side of the feature list, a copy of Text Blender Pro is built-in to each e-book reader. Paste in any meaningful passage and the text blender will, grind, whip, puree, or liquify it until it is more or less meaningless. A few poets, song-writers or latter-day beatniks will find this to be a useful feature, but for most it will be a delectable distraction.
The other e-books included in the free download are: Joseph Conrads "The Heart of Darkness," two books by G.K. Chesterton "The Man who was Thursday," and "The Innocence of Father Brown," Thomas a Kempis "Imitatio Christi," "Pencil and Poison - Selected Prose of Oscar Wilde," Nathaniel Hawthornes "The Scarlet Letter" and Robert Louis Stevensons "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde."
Enhancements:
- Over 204 bugs have resolved since RC5. Although bug fixing was a large part of the work, we did extensive changes to the software to add new features and improve how Sophie works. We completely rewrote the entire text edit subsystem to resolve issues found in RC5, along with adding new feature to the template system to enhance the ability of Sophie to make books. During this process we replaced the entire undo/redo subsystem with a new code base which greatly simplified the interface for developers and enabled many more commands/actions to be undoable.
Vega Strike 0.4.3
Vega Strike is a 3D OpenGL Action RPG space sim that allows a player to trade and bounty hunt in the spirit of Elite more>>
You start in an old beat up Wayfarer cargo ship, with endless possibility before you and just enough cash to scrape together a life. Yet danger lurks in the space beyond.
Enhancements:
- Also featured is an introductory story campaign showing what the future of Vega Strike storytelling will look like.
- Hopefully we will release a campaign editor at some point which will allow users to contribute their own stories and dialogue to the game.
- Strangelet and PeteyG have worked for months on the art you will experience in 2.4.3.
- And my mac is finally out of the shop, and I have finally figured out how to make OS X 10.1 and 10.2 compatible binaries through OS X 10.3, so users with any Mac OS X can still experience Vega Strike. (this is not as easy as it sounds--look how many OS X 10.3 only apps there are out there and youll realize)
- All the items missing from 0.4.2 listed in the missing section have finally been added to 0.4.3, and thats the reason the developers decided to push for another 0.4.x release before forging ahead to 0.5.0 which will likely have a new gameplay feel and more stories
StorYBook 2.1.12
Open source story writing software for novelists, authors and creative writers more>> Open source story writing software for novelists, authors and creative writers
Are you a novelist or an author? StorYBook is a free and open source scene-based software for creative writers that helps to keep the overview over characters, locations and strands while writing a book, a novel or a story. StorYBook assists you in structuring your book.
Main features:
- StorYBook has three views: the Chronological View shows the scenes sorted by date, the Book View shows all chapters and their assigned scenes sorted by chapter and scene numbers, as you would read it in the final book, the Manage Chapters and Scenes view shows all chapters and their assigned scenes
- StorYBook helps to keep the overview, especially for complex stories with two or more strands. You imagine of StorYBook as some kind of a dynamic mind map.
- Strands and strand links: Each chapter belongs to a primary strand. Optionally other related, secondary strands can be linked to a chapter.
- Person management: Add, edit or remove persons (characters) and assign them to the related chapters.
- Location management: Add, edit or remove locations and assign them to the related chapters.
- Parts: Large projects can be split into well arranged parts.
- Informations: Chapter related informations of the currently selected part are shown as well as warnings for missing chapters or chapters existing twice. A overview list shows all present strands, persons and locations.
- Adjustable view: The chronological view can be resized any time to fit to screen, or to get a better overview if many strands are defined. Even more working space is available if you hide the information panel with a simple click on the tool bar.
- Instant save: Because StorYBook uses an embedded database to store data (and not a file) each input entered is saved in an instant. Even if the program crashes, you wont loose any data.
- Completely stand-alone: Write your book or script with your favorite software. The only link needed is the chapter number.
System requirements:
- Java 6
Enhancements
- A "quick navigation" has been implemented. Right click on a scene number and select "show in chronological view" to switch to the desired view and show the scene there. Of course this works for any view, not just for the chronological view. It is also possible to right click on a scene in the tree and select the view to shown the scene in there.
- Most dialogs are non-modal (= dont prevent the workflow on the application) and re-sizable now.
- After editing a scene, the refreshing is more accurate now. The view is always up-to-date even if the date was changed.
- When editing a scene, the date chooser has 2 new buttons now to quickly add or subtract 1 day.
- The dictionaries has been updated.
- The color chooser has some nice predefined colors now.
- Support for dark colors has been added. E.g. black can be used for a strand now. The label text will be shown in white in this case.
- At the bottom in the chronological view there is an empty row. This row has a date now (the next "empty" day, or more precisely the next day which is empty for the current part).
- Last but not least: Were looking for a new logo. More information on the community page.

DownloadStory 1.4 is known as a useful application that is created to help facilitate downloading all of a fanfiction story off of any of the biggest fanfiction websites. Once downloaded, the entire story is available even when you are offline - great for installing on an iPhone to read on the go, or on your laptop on airplane trips.
DownloadStory currently supports the following websites:
- FanFiction.net
- FanFicAuthors.net
- Portkey.org
- Sugarquill.net
- Checkmated.com
- PhoenixSong.net
- FictionAlley.org
- siye.co.uk
- Ficwad.com
- Kinsfire.net
- chrisfoxx.com
- zzstudios.com
- squidge.org/~peja/
- crvboy.org
Once you provide the web page address of the beginning of the story (the first chapter always works, and I try to support index pages as well), then the software will download each chapter in the background, saving the files into a temporary folder created on your desktop. While this is going on you can do anything else you want. Once the software has downloaded all of the chapters, it combines all of the them together into your preference of a html or text file. Finally it takes that compiled document and puts it in a folder called "New Stories" on your desktop.
Enhancements:
- This update is a direct result of a paid feature request:
- Now correctly displays smart quotes, apostrophes, etc., on FanFiction.net
- Now displays the correct story title in Stanza
- Now supports crvboy.org
- Updated to support new type of chapter links at checkmated.com
- Added additional error catching

Lightning Brain TextStich for InDesign 1.0.1
Lightning Brain TextStich for InDesign - Helps you with threading of text frames in InDesign CS, CS2 or CS3 more>>
There are three main functions: auto-stitch, quick stitch and auto-unstitch. It is highly recommended to assign some keyboard shortcuts to the TextStitch menu items if you intend to use these functions often (using Edit - Keyboard Shortcuts... ).
- Auto-Stitch
Auto-stitch will automatically thread all unthreaded text frames it finds in a logical order (roughly left-right, top-down, page order). It will ignore non-empty text frames, or frames that have already been threaded. When frames are positioned in irregular positions, itll try to guess a logical order.
This function can be performed either on the current spread, or throughout the complete document; there is a configuration dialog under the API - Text Stitch - Configure... menu item which allows you to choose between these two options.
- Quick Stitch
The second function, quick stitch, allows you to stitch multiple text frames together with just a single click per frame.
- Auto-Unstitch
Auto-unstitch, the third function, will break all text threads on the current spread or in the current document - all stories will bunch up in the first frame of each story thread. Be careful with this as it will also remove all threads you might have assigned manually.
