audiospectrum is a very simple quartz screensaver that reacts to ambient audio. Its simple as possible to keep processor load and heat minimal. This is the good one, in my opinion, the screenshot really doesnt do it justice.
Click the More Information link on this page for all the other audio-based quartz screensavers Ive made. I may try to combine some of these, but keeping CPU use low is the priority.
To use these create (if it doesnt already exist) a folder called "Screen Savers" in your ~/Library folder and place the file there. It will then be available in ScreenSavers preference pane.
Note: If you are using a PowerMac or other computer without a built in microphone, you need to either adjust your default input in Sound Preference Pane so the screensaver can "hear" it, or email me or leave a comment if that doesnt work, so I can provide a version that monitors the line in. (I dont have a computer like this to test it on.)
Enhancements:
- I figured out how to separate the audio spectrum, so there is a low, mid, and high band! The color of each band depends on the relative strengths of each band so its kinda interesting actually, and its quite responsive.

LongPlayer is a program that automatically fills your Winamp, XMMS or iTunes playlist. It will basically replace the randomization feature of those media players.
Those of you who have converted all of your CDs into mp3s (or wma/ogg/..) and try to shuffle songs in your big, static all-containing playlist will surely know the "hey, I already heard this song an hour ago!" problem.
That random function just doesnt seem random enough! The main reason for this is the birthday-problem: the chances that you hear a particular song twice in, say the same day, are quite small, but the odds of ANY song playing twice in that timespan, are real, very real. Your typical media player just selects a random song from a statically generated list without saving where it last left off.
LongPlayers smart queuing checks how long it has been since you heard a song, how good you think a song is and what genre you think it belongs in.

The Boost libraries are intended to be usable and widely useful across a broad spectrum of applications. The Boost license encourages both commercial and non-commercial use.
Boost aims to establish "existing practice" and provide reference implementations so that Boost libraries are suitable for eventual standardization. Ten Boost libraries are already included in the C++ Standards Committees Library Technical Report (TR1) as a step toward becoming part of a future C++ Standard.
