FSSoundPlayer is designed for playing System 7 sound files.

For reasons beyond us, QuickTime refuses to play System 7 sound files on Mac OS X, and because of that, weve designed FSSoundPlayer X to fill this immense void. Dont bother resorting to classic or some other behemoth application just to play them, just use FSSoundPlayer X.

Sound Recorder is a simple sound recording application which uses QuickTime.

Play Sound provides a simple, no-fuss way to play sound files in classic Mac OS and Mac OS X. It supports QuickTime sound files (for example, AIFF or MP3 files), Mac OS System 7 sound files (files with a file type of sfil that contain snd resources), or any snd resources embedded into any file.
You can play an unlimited number sounds concurrently or one at a time. You can loop sounds, repeat sounds, control the volume of sounds played, and press the Escape or Command-Period keys to abort sound play.
To use Play Sound as a simple sound file player, simply drag and drop the sound file(s) onto the Play Sound icon in the Mac OS Finder. Better yet, configure the Finder to open sound files with Play Sound when you double-click them (see the Play Sound documentation for easy instructions showing how to do this).
Play Sound is also fully scriptable, allowing AppleScript writers to use simple, easy-to-understand English syntax to play most QuickTime-supported sound files, Mac OS System 7 sound files, and snd resources that are embedded in script applets. To script Play Sound, you call it from an AppleScript script or application.
Enhancements:

Sound Set Scripts are a pair of AppleScripts that choose a new Sound Set on startup and turn Sound Sets off.

To install Place one in the Startup Items folder and another on your desktop.

The MooSB Sound Packer program allows you to create your own Sound Packs without having to know anything about programming. Simply choose some AIFF or WAV files, and this program will create a Sound Pack that is ready to be drag-installed.

Plus, the Sound Pack that is created is special. Unlike any other Sound Packs, this one will allow you to add/remove sounds simply by adding and removing files in its Contents/Resources/ directory.

RndSnd is a small applet which can be edited in ScriptEditor and tailored to ones liking.
RndSnd simply chooses one of the four included System 7 sound files and plays it.

SoundApp Drop Decoder 1.0 is a very flexible and effective script that uses SoundApp to decode (just about) any sound file to Aiff, suitable for burning on CD. Formerly posted as "Dan's Drop Decoder." This is useful, now that Mpecker is no longer freeware. Also, SoundApp will decode files that Mpecker cannot. Works simply as "Drag and Drop."
