Software For Starving Students enhances computing experiences by providing an easy way to install free, high-quality software titles via a user-friendly interface.

It includes popular Open Source programs like Firefox and OpenOffice, intended to help students learn about and benefit from Open Source and free software programs. The SSS team put all the most commonly used free programs into one download to make it easier for students to install useful software (including fully-featured office suites, 3D graphic editors and much more) for free.

We created SSS because we love Open Source software and want to help make it more accessible to students all around the world. Although all students need good software to be successful, many have a hard time getting it on student budgets. We empathize with them because we’ve felt that pinch ourselves. This software enables students to achieve more for less, and that inspires us. People all over the world are using free software to make their lives better.

After all of these years of mooching off of great volunteer programmers, this is our little way of saying thanks. By providing a tool that makes their great free software more accessible to software-hungry students from Boston to Bangalore, we feel we’ve given a little back to the free software community and to students all over the world. We are proud and happy to do so.

Cascade Nested Folder Windows 1.0 is an innovative and versatile script which organizes size and position of all open windows of nested folders in the desired parent folder.

It combines the Akua Sweets folder walking method and a folder action script designed by Sal Soghoian of Apple Computer. The main differences between this script and Sal's script is that it performs the action on all nested folders and not just the ones in the parent folder, and that it comes in three forms: one suited for use as a draggable Finder application, one suited for triggering from the Apple menu, and one suitable as a folder action . By default it only rearranges nested folders whose windows are open when it is activated, but it can be quickly and easily modified to perform the action on every nested folder in the specified parent folder.

I noticed the distinct lack of a positioning option in iChats Windows menu, so I added one. Throw this script in Library/Scripts in your home directory, and you can select it in the Scripts menu to tile your iChat windows.

tile iChat windows tiles the windows in a square pattern (i.e. rounds up to the next square number above the open message windows, then divides the screen into rows and columns by that square and fills in til it runs out of message windows). This leaves some screen real-estate unfilled, but wont distort your windows into weird sizes.

When the "installer" is run, Software Update runs in the background and installs any available updates through Apple Software Update. If you want to "update software" again, "install" the package again.
Enhancements:
- More logging for system events
- Log files now placed in separate directory (/Library/Logs/SISUWORKS/SoftwareUpdateBySW.log)
- Reduced dependency on executing commands as root, due to the fact that root authentication is required anyways
- Forced Software to only run on Root volume (currently booted volume) to clear up some confusion.
