SystemLoad 1.2

SystemLoad 1.2

SystemLoad - Diagnostic application assisting you in the detection of cooling or power supply more>>
SystemLoad is a diagnostic application assisting you in the detection of cooling or power supply problems with Apple Macintosh computers.
The tool can put a user-definable load onto one or more processors.
This can help in diagnosing the following issues:
- problems with the cooling system or temperature sensors,
- problems with chirping noise experienced on some G5 systems and some portable computers,
- problems with battery units of portable computers.
When desired, the tool can put the processor(s) under the maximum load possible, generating the highest possible temperatures and highest load on the power supply. You so can verify if all components (CPUs, sensors, cooling subsystem, power supply unit, battery unit) are working correctly when they are pushed to their design limits.
No installation is required, no administrator permissions are needed, nothing is changed in the operating system.
Enhancements:
- By user request, the application now remembers the last load value and the number of processors to load the next time it is started.

Gazebo 0.8 Pre3

Gazebo 0.8 Pre3

Open source 3D multiple robot simulator with dynamics more>> Open source 3D multiple robot simulator with dynamics

Gazebo is a multi-robot simulator for outdoor environments. Like Stage, it is capable of simulating a population of robots, sensors and objects, but does so in a three-dimensional world.
Gazebo can help you generate both physically plausible interactions between objects (it includes an accurate simulation of rigid-body physics) and realistic sensor feedback.
The Player/Stage project provides two multi-robot simulators: Stage and Gazebo. Since Stage and Gazebo are both Player-compatible, client programs written using one simulator can usually be run on the other with little or no modification.
The key difference between these two simulators is that whereas Stage is designed to simulate a very large robot population with low fidelity, Gazebo is designed to simulated a small population with high fidelity.
Thus, the two simulator are complementary, and users may switch back and forth between them according to their needs.

Main features:
- Simulation of standard robot sensors, including sonar, scanning laser range-finders, GPS and IMU, monocular and stereo cameras.
- Models for commonly used robot types such as the Pioneer2DX, Pioneer2AT and SegwayRMP.
- Realistic simulation of rigid-body physics: robots can push things around, pick things up, and generally interact with the world in a plausible manner.
- Player compatible: robots and sensors can be controlled through standard Player interfaces.
- Stand-alone operation: programs can interact directly with the simulator (i.e., without going through Player) using libgazebo (included in the distribution).
- New Stereo camera model: generates stereo image pairs, disparity and depth maps.
- New Completely re-written GUI using wxPython: most devices can now be directly controlled/inspected through the simulator GUI.
- New Plugin models: users can develop their own robot/sensor models, and have these models loaded dynamically at run time.
- New Skins: simple geometric models may be augmented with realisitc skins from 3D modelling programs.

Enhancements
- Selectable and movable models.
- Saving world files
- Improved gui with multiple cameras
- 2D map extruder
- Lots of bug fixes and patches

SMSRotateD 0.22

SMSRotateD 0.22

SMSRotateD - triggers screen rotation based on the orientation data it retrieves from the Sudden Motion Sensor more>>
SMSRotateD is a demo software that triggers screen rotation based on the orientation data it retrieves from the Sudden Motion Sensor (SMS) built into newer Apple notebook models.

It uses the SMS to detect if the notebook has been physically rotated sufficiently (where "sufficient" is defined as a preconfigured threshold) in such a manner that the displays orientation has changed from landscape to portrait, or vice-versa. When such a change occurs, SMSRotateD triggers an appropriate rotation of the displayed screen.

This movie (QuickTime format, no audio, 6.5 MB) depicts the operation of SMSRotateD. Note that besides clockwise and anti-clockwise rotations, SMSRotateD also supports upside-down (180 degree) rotations.

After launching SMSRotateD, the "Start" button within the applications window must be pressed to enable SMS-based screen orientation. When "Start" is pressed, the notebooks base should be parallel to the ground, to allow SMSRotateD to establish a "level" state. Thereafter, the button becomes the "Stop" button.

As a convenience and safeguard, the key toggles between the two states of the button. Disabling SMS-based screen orientation (that is, going to the "Stop" state, whether by pressing "Stop" or by hitting ) resets the screen to its original, non-rotated state. Moreover, quitting the SMSRotateD application also resets the screen.

On some notebooks, you might need to check one, or even both, of the axis flipping checkboxes. For example, if physically rotating the notebook 90 degrees clockwise causes the screen to rotate anti-clockwise, checking the "Flip x-axis" box will rectify this behavior.

Another important point to note is that SMSRotateD does not alter the user-facing orientation of the built-in trackpad. In other words, even though the screen has been rotated, say, by 90 degrees, the trackpad logically remains in its original position.

nesC 1.3

nesC 1.3

Compiler for a new language (based on C) designed to support the TinyOS project more>> Compiler for a new language (based on C) designed to support the TinyOS project

nesC (pronounced "NES-see") is an extension to the C programming language designed to embody the structuring concepts and execution model of TinyOS.
TinyOS is an event-driven operating system designed for sensor network nodes that have very limited resources (e.g., 512 bytes of RAM, 8K bytes of program memory).
The basic concepts behind nesC are:
- Separation of construction and composition: programs are built out of components, which are assembled ("wired") to form whole programs. Components have internal concurrency in the form of tasks. Threads of control may pass into a component through its interfaces. These threads are rooted either in a task or a hardware interrupt.
- Specification of component behaviour in terms of set of interfaces. Interfaces may be provided or used by components. The provided interfaces are intended to represent the functionality that the component provides to its user, the used interfaces represent the functionality the component needs to perform its job.
- Interfaces are bidirectional: they specify a set of functions to be implemented by the interfaces provider (commands) and a set to be implemented by the interfaces user (events). This allows a single interface to represent a complex interaction between components (e.g., registration of interest in some event, followed by a callback when that event happens). This is critical because all lengthy commands in TinyOS (e.g. send packet) are non-blocking; their completion is signaled through an event (send done). By specifying interfaces, a component cannot call the send command unless it provides an implementation of the sendDone event. Typically commands call downwards, i.e., from application components to those closer to the hardware, while events call upwards. Certain primitive events are bound to hardware interrupts.
- Components are statically linked to each other via their interfaces. This increases runtime efficiency, encourages rubust design, and allows for better static analysis of programs.
- nesC is designed under the expectation that code will be generated by whole-program compilers. This should also allow for better code generation and analysis.
