J-Battle 0.5

J-Battle 0.5

J-Battle - BattleShips-alike game more>>
When I was very young, I got an electronic version of BattleShips (called "Sea Battle") for Christmas one year. I loved it, I could play against the "built-in computer" (a big thing in those days!) in various modes or against a friend. We thought it was fabulous and played it and played it until we damn near broke it. Sadly, it is now broken, probably from having been consigned to the attic for the last 16-or-so years!!
Anyway, Ive wanted to play it again for ages, so I set about writing my own version of it. I know there are others out there, but theyre all either not quite what Im looking for or take too long to set up and get stuck into a game. J-Battle is as simple as it gets: fire it up, select "New Game" and click where you want to shoot at. Its absolutely great if youve got a few minutes to spare or if youre bored at work! ;)
I hope you like playing J-Battle. Ill admit that its not exactly addictive, but it is very good for a quick fix if thats all youre after. If theres anything you particularly like about J-Battle, anything you want to know, have any constructive criticism or ideas for future versions, please let me know. Likewise if you would like the source code or have created an icon you think might be better. Actually, while Im on the subject of the icon, if you own the picture that the current icon came from, then Im sorry but I found the pic via Google image search a number of months ago and cant for the life of me remember where it came from! Let me know and Ill credit you or change it.
If you find yourself playing J-Battle a lot, please consider making a wee donation to help me continue writing programs for Mac OS X. Ive got a few more ideas up my sleve, so itd be a really good incentive. Thanks.

Sea Beast 1.0

Sea Beast 1.0

Sea Beast - A gorgeous set of sea creatures more>>
Check out Sea Beast - a gorgeous set of sea creatures in vibrant colors that can cascade along your desktop!

A three-piece lawn sculpture gave me the idea for this design. Each section of the sea serpent is its own icon. Altogether, the head, hump, and tail look like a creature half submerged in your display!

Sea Beast can be used for network volumes, related folders, or just to swim, hump after hump after hump, across your desktop.

All icons are aquafied and look their best in 128x128 at 32bit mode.

Completly freeware.

StarLogo 2.2

StarLogo 2.2

StarLogo - programmable modeling environment for kids more>>
StarLogo is a programmable modeling environment for exploring the workings of decentralized systems -- systems that are organized without an organizer, coordinated without a coordinator. With StarLogo, you can model (and gain insights into) many real-life phenomena, such as bird flocks, traffic jams, ant colonies, and market economies.
In decentralized systems, orderly patterns can arise without centralized control. Increasingly, researchers are choosing decentralized models for the organizations and technologies that they construct in the world, and for the theories that they construct about the world.
But many people continue to resist these ideas, assuming centralized control where none exists -- for example, assuming (incorrectly) that bird flocks have leaders. StarLogo is designed to help students (as well as researchers) develop new ways of thinking about and understanding decentralized systems.
StarLogo is a specialized version of the Logo programming language. With traditional versions of Logo, you can create drawings and animations by giving commands to graphic "turtles" on the computer screen. StarLogo extends this idea by allowing you to control thousands of graphic turtles in parallel.
In addition, StarLogo makes the turtles world computationally active: you can write programs for thousands of "patches" that make up the turtles environment.
Turtles and patches can interact with one another -- for example, you can program the turtles to "sniff" around the world, and change their behaviors based on what they sense in the patches below. StarLogo is particularly well-suited for Artificial Life projects.
Enhancements:
- Rewrote tail recursion detection to actually work.
- Fixed numerous hanging bugs that plagued the MacOSX version of StarLogo.
- Fixed display of error dialog boxes when running StarLogo as an applet.
- StarLogo is properly ported to running on Intel-based Macintosh computers when they come out.
- Eliminated ugly redraws of widgets on the Macintosh version of StarLogo. Text widgets look much better now.
- Fixed a bug in scatter plots where the generated StarLogo code was wrong.
- Found and fixed a bug that sometimes let the turtles escape their StarLogo world and scribble on the widgets nearby.
- Resize the patch canvas back to default values when you do New Project.
- Fixed numerous bugs in documentation.

Squid Little 1.0.2

Squid Little 1.0.2

Squid Little - guide Squid Little through the fish tank, eating tiny fish while avoiding predator fish more>>
A crazy couple decided to buy a fish tank so they could improve the Feng Shui in their home. They purchased all kinds of small sea creatures.
This couple was not very knowledgable about the different species of fish and how they would react in an environment together. Of the many species they had purchased, one happened to be a mini squid and another was a ravenous predator.
You control the mini squid (who has been affectionately named Squid Little). You must guide Squid Little through the fish tank, eating tiny fish while avoiding predator fish.
Use the mouse to move Squid Little. As you move the mouse, the squid will begin to accelerate. It may take time to get used to controlling the squid. When you first begin, you may want to play around with the mouse control just to get a feel for it.
You must eat the tiny colorful fish in order to gain calories. If your calories drop to zero, then Squid Little dies. After you have eaten ten tiny fish, you will advance to the next level.
Avoid the big green predator fish!!
Command-P pauses the game and command-R resumes game play.
Pressing the escape key will pause and hide the game.
This game is freeware and may be freely distributed on any media.
Version restrictions:
- this game tends to run a bit sluggish on Macs with a G3 processor. One way to speed things up a bit is to lower your screen resolution a notch or so

Adventures on Pirate Isle 1.0.6

Adventures on Pirate Isle 1.0.6

Pirate adventure game. more>>
On July 15, 1597 the frigate Sun Burst was wrecked upon the shoals of Pirate Isle. The only surviving crew member was a furry cheeked sailor named Slash.

The adventure begins when Slash regains consciousness among the debris of his former vessel, determined to uncover the secrets of the island, its treasure, and to discover a means of returning home.

Slash is a sugar glider from the distant land of Australia. Roughly the size of a small squirrel, sugar gliders have a membranous flap of skin connecting their forepaw to their hind feet. Sugar gliders can use this layer of skin in order to glide up to 150 feet through the air, jumping from tree to tree to escape the jaws of their predators.

Our hero is a seaworthy buccaneer who wears his trusty sabre always at his side. He was a notable sailor aboard his ship, being able to leap from mast to mast seemingly without effort. During his future adventures on Pirate Isle, Slash will be able to run, jump, climb, and glide his way to and past obstacles of all kinds.

When strategic maneuvers are not an option, Slash can whip out his sabre to deal death to the most fearsome of foes. Sugar gliders love fresh fruit, so finding such items along the way can rejuvenate or even grant temporary powers to our stalwart marsupial.

Using his unique talents, his uncanny wit, and his deft swordsmanship Slash must travel deeper and deeper into Pirate Isle, avoiding natural predators such as sea gulls, giant crabs, and wild boars.
