RSS-Planet - Custom marker file generator for xplanet and OSXplanet more>>
By default, BBC News, Yahoo! News, CNN.com and the Washington Post are supported, but other feeds that point to articles with place names might work as well.
Note: The Python Imaging Library needs to be installed for favicon display to work. Circles are used by default if PIL is not found. To use the GUI, wxPython must be installed.
RSS-Planet implementation by Martin C. Doege after an idea by Nathan Eckenrode. Various tips/hints are available at the developers website.
Enhancements:
- RSS-Planet can now alternatively output HTML with popup captions.
- If the command line option --web is used, a page called rssplanet.html is generated in the web_path directory.
- Rendering of the background image no longer requires xplanet or OSXplanet in this mode, only the day and night images specified in renderplanet.py.
- Normally, these will be earth.jpg and night.jpg, which are available from from the xplanet/OSxplanet distribtution.
RSS Growler 1.1a
RSS Growler brings users a very useful menu bar item RSS reader which is similar to RSS Menu, more>>
RSS Growler 1.1a brings users a very useful menu bar item RSS reader which is similar to RSS Menu, but designed for use with Trac. It should also work with other RSS feeds, but will provide less compelling advantages. Specifically, RSS Growler is designed for developers working on projects that are using svn Trac integration to provide commit logs and diffs through RSS.
Major Features:
- Multiple feed subscriptions + http authentication support
- Growl notifications with revision number and commit log (full log if you make sure you are access an rss feed from Trac that is "verbose=on", which you get from checking "Show full log messages" before switching to the rss view)
- Most recent listing of commits across all projects, with ability to customize which feeds are shown in the recent list
- Cached downloading of links for recent rss items -- items in the recent list can be automatically downloaded and saved to disk as a webarchive so that when you click on the link in the rss menu, it will open the page cached off the disk automatically
- Submenu with parsed urls or radars, allowing you to access these directly if they were in the commit log
- Option to see each feed as a different item in growl, for customization per feed
- Option to open up diff directly by clicking on growl notification
Requirements: Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger
RSS Menu 1.10.3
RSS Menu is a very simple application that allows you to read any RSS or Atom feeds found on various websites more>>
Everytime a feed has new articles, youll be notified.
You can choose from the built in notification or you can use Growl.
Please note that because RSS Menu uses the same parsing engine as Safari Menu, you can easily import your Safari Menu RSS feeds into RSS Menu. To do this, quit RSS Menu first. Then locate the folder Application Support inside the Library folder of your home folder.
Inside this folder create a folder called RSS Menu if it doesnt exist (RSS Menu creates this folder when it is launched for the first time). Move or copy the file RSS sites.plist from the Safari Menu folder into the RSS Menu folder.
Relaunch RSS Menu and youre done.
Note: you may need to remove the old preferences (~/Library/Preferences/com.edot-studios.rssmenu, where ~ is your home folder)
