Resource Edit is a REALbasic plugin that has been put to life for a couple of reasons. The first reason was to provide tools you can use to meaningfully implement a new class that comes with NavDialog Plugin. This new class is called Nav Customization, which allows you to add a DITL resource to a NavDialog window.

Navigation Services allows you to do this, and because Navigation belongs to the Human Interface Experience, it was almost imperative to implement ResourceEdit. In order to give the REALbasic programmer the necessary tools, a new plugin had to be created, which does several things.

The project "resourcesample.rb" contains all the code necessary to open and manipulate data fork based resource files and bundles.

It can also work with standard resource forks, though thats essentially just a wrapper for the built-in resource fork class.
Although not exactly a resource fork class drop-in replacement, it comes fairly close.

The code was written for my purposes, so you may find some holes, but it is possible to do quite a bit.

Resource Tweezer 1.0.2 is a beneficial and easy-to-use application which lets you extract any type of resource from a file or application.

It places the extracted resources (in the form of ResEdit files) in folders, each containing all extracted resources of that type. This utility is designed with programmers in mind, especially REALbasic programmers, Kaledioscope scheme makers and MacAMP skin developers, but it may also be helpful for individuals who wish to extract sounds or pictures for personal use.

TrashResources is an utility that removes the Resource Fork from Macintosh Files.

This can be useful when you made for instance an image with Adobe Photoshop or GraphicConverter and it includes a Preview.

Removing the Resource Fork of such a file will reduce its size (yet removing also the icon and preview).

The Check Resource Forks routine allows users of OS X, with the Unix subsystem installed, to check whether or not files have resource forks.

They can then take the appropriate measures to avoid damaging them when they use Unix binaries. The routine will, if possible, return a record with the filepaths of the files with resource forks. Extensive documentation is included.

Mac Resource file access is a class, similar to RBs ResourceFork, that can read Mac Resource files.

It works on all platforms and allows you also to read the new data-fork based resources on Mac OS X.
