It uses an efficient software Z-buffer algorithm which is independent of any graphics hardware. Ancillary programs process atomic coordinates from PDB files into rendering descriptions for pictures composed of ribbons, space-filling atoms, bonds, ball+stick, etc.
Raster3D can also be used to render pictures composed in other programs such as Molscript in glorious 3D with highlights, shadowing, etc. Output is to pixel image files with 24 bits of color information per pixel.

The file is a fully playable, raster version of the classic 1979 Asteroids game by Atari. Ive tried to keep to the original game-play, so watch out for the small saucers - they can be crafty little sods ;-) Quartz Composer doesnt have any sound playback ability so this is currently a mute example.
I plan to wrap this QC file in a regular Cocoa app bundle and add the sound from that side. Have fun, let me know what you think.

The PosteRazor cuts a raster image into pieces which can afterwards be printed out and assembled to a poster.
As input, the PosteRazor takes a raster image. The resulting poster is saved as a multipage PDF document. You are guided through 5 steps by an easy to use, wizard like user interface.
Main features:
- Input image formats. All image formats that FreeImage can read should be usable as input for the PosteRazor: BMP, DDS, Dr. Halo, GIF, ICO, IFF, JBIG, JPEG/JIF, KOALA, LBM, Kodak PhotoCD, PCX, PBM, PGM, PNG, PPM, PhotoShop PSD, Sun RAS, TARGA, TIFF, WBMP, XBM, XPM
- Image types. PosteRazor can handle the following image color types: Monochrome, Grayscale, 4 Bit palette, 8 Bit palette, 24 Bit RGB, 48 Bit RGB (only via TIFF and PNG), 32 Bit CMYK (only via TIFF) 32 Bit RGBA images can be loaded, but are transformed to 24 Bit RGB by "merging" them with a white background.
- Dimension Units. Because people around the world invented so many different dimension units, PosteRazor supports quite a few: m, mm, cm, inch, ft, pt(72th inch)
- Printer page layout. The page size and orientation of the printer where the poster will be printed can be set manually or selected one from the following list of predefined formats: DIN A4, DIN A3, Legal, Letter, Tabloid
- The size limit for one page is 5 meters (16.4 feet), which is the maximum that PDF allows.
- Poster size. The size of the final poster can be set one of these three ways.
- Absolute image size: You want to have a specific size of your poster.
- Size in Pages: You want to use whole paper sheets and specify how many of them of them you want to use.
- Image Size in percent: Your input image has a certain size which is defined by the number of pixels and dpi (dots per Inch) and your want to scale the image by a certain factor.
- The final size of the poster is theoretically unlimited. Lets say it this way: it is less limited that the ink of your printer ;)
- It is possible to select the alignment of the image on the total paper. This is useful if you want to keep the unused paper.
- Image tile overlapping. For a bigger tolerance when cutting spare paper borders and for easier pasting, an overlapping width and height of an image tile over the next can be set.
- PDF output. The PDF output is implemented with the maximum image quality and a good compression in mind. A source image is embedded once in the PDF document and referenced from every tile page. Image color types remain unchanged. As compression method, the PDF "FlateDecode filter" (zip) is used. If a Jpeg image is used as input it gets directly embedded into the document without recompression. The PDF version is 1.4, so any Acrobat Reader version 4 and higher should be able to read the resulting document.
- Missing features: Cut lines/aids; Support of Jpeg-CMYK images; Support of 16 Bit Grayscale images; Embedding an ICC profile into the PDF if there is one embedded in the input image

GRASS GIS 6.4rc5 is stand for Geographic Resources Analysis Support System, which used for data management, image processing, graphics production, spatial modelling, and visualization of many types of data. It is Free (Libre) Software/Open Source released under GNU General Public License (GPL). GRASS is official project of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation.
Originally developed by the U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratories (USA-CERL, 1982-1995), a branch of the US Army Corp of Engineers, as a tool for land management and environmental planning by the military, GRASS has evolved into a powerful utility with a wide range of applications in many different areas of scientific research. GRASS is currently used in academic and commercial settings around the world, as well as many governmental agencies including NASA, NOAA, USDA, DLR, CSIRO, the National Park Service, the U.S. Census Bureau, USGS, and many environmental consulting companies.
The new GRASS 6 release introduces a new topological 2D/3D vector engine and support for vector network analysis. Attributes are now managed in a SQL-based DBMS. A new display manager has been implemented. The NVIZ visualization tool was enhanced to display 3D vector data and voxel volumes. Messages are partially translated (i18N) with support for FreeType fonts, including multibyte Asian characters. New LOCATIONs can be auto-generated by EPSG code number. GRASS is integrated with GDAL/OGR libraries to support an extensive range of raster and vector formats, including OGC-conformal Simple Features.
The GRASS Development Team has grown into a multi-national team consisting of developers at numerous locations.
In September 2006, the GRASS Project Steering Commitee was formed which is responsible for the overall management of the project. The PSC is especially responsible for granting SVN write access.

- It is now possible to manipulate geometries interactively, dragging vertices using the new Move Vertex tool. This tool can be used on both existing feature geometries, as well as geometries which are in the process of being digitised. When the tool has been selected, the selected geometry will be drawn in grey, while its vertices will be highlighted and draggable.
- Previously, a raster image would always be shown by GPlates to cover the whole globe, from -180 to +180 degrees longitude and -90 to +90 latitude. Its now possible to specify a surface extent of any longitude and latitude range for the raster, enabling rasters of a smaller size to be correctly sized and positioned.
- The Manage Feature Collections dialog offers the ability to reload a file from disk with a single click, as well as the ability to enable or disable a feature collection without unloading or reloading the file.
- It is now possible to save feature collections in GMT format, with a choice of header formats: PLATES4 line header; GPGIM feature properties; or a mixture of the two. Its also possible to export a digitised geometry in GMT format (it was already possible to export a digitised geometry in PLATES4 line-format) during the digitisation process, without needing to create a whole new feature.
- Shapefile attributes may now be edited in the Feature Properties dialog in the same way as native GPGIM property-values.
- The Task Panel can now be resized in the main window, enabling text fields to be widened in order to display longer lines of text.
- All the attributes in a Shapefile may additionally be viewed in a more compact tabular (spreadsheet-like) format, with one attribute per column.
