Solipsis is a pure peer-to-peer system for a massively shared virtual world. There is no server at all: it only relies on end-users machines.
The shared virtual worlds of nowadays MMORPG strongly rely on privately owned servers. These servers are an expensive bottleneck that limits their scalability. In addition, these servers bound the freedom of the virtual world inhabitants and the imagination of the world-builders and developers. Solipsis solves these problems with a free and open-source system.
Solipsis is a public virtual territory. The world is initially empty and only users will fill it by creating and running entities. No pre-existing cities, habitants nor scenario to respect...
Solipsis is open-source, so everybody can enhance the protocols and the algorithms. Moreover, the system architecture clearly separates the different tasks, so that peer-to-peer hackers as well as multimedia geeks can find a good place to have fun here!

The default set of sounds you get with Quicktime is a bit short on free-reed instruments, and in particular there is no concertina sound. This is a very high quality Sound Font in SF2 format, made from my own baritone Wheatstone English concertina (ca. 1906). It has been compressed with Stuffit, which is not very efficient, as the dedicated packaging programs (SFArk and SFPack) dont yet have Macintosh versions available. Consequently its a very big file - 7.3 Mb in size. You must be using at least version 5 of Quicktime to use it.

To use this file under OS X, unpack it and place the resulting "Concertina.sf2" file in ~/Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks
To use it under Classic systems, place it in System Folder:Extensions:Quicktime Extensions
If you want to use it under both operating systems you can put the file in the OS X location, reboot in OS 9, make an alias of the file and put that in the Quicktime Extensions folder.

You dont have to reboot, or even re-start BarFly. Choose "Add an Instrument" from the Instrument sub-menu. In the Instrument Picker dialog, the Synthesiser popup menu now contains a new synth named "Wheatstone English Concertina". Choose that, then choose one of the three instruments from the Instrument popup.

BASh is a 4D component that provides extensive utility commands, especially for dynamically reusable variable space (DSS, Dynamic Stack Space, module), date-time stamps (DTS module), resources (RES module), encoding and decoding (CODEC module), encryption (CRYPT module), X4D module (record packing in XML), XML management, and much, much more.

unpkg is a utility that simply unpacks all the files in a Mac OS X package (.pkg file) into a folder. Very handy, and GNU GPL free too!
Main features:
- fast, no non-sense unpacking

- accepting of many places for the actual archive in the package

- unpacking of files to a folder named after the package, either in:
- the same directory as the package, if possible
- or the Desktop, if the package folder is non-writable (on disk images, for example)
- good package detection (no trying to expand something thats not a package)
- licensed under then GNU GPL.
Enhancements:

Batch Unpacker is an OS X application that checks for, and if necessary, unpacks the bitstreams of AVI video files.

This relatively quick procedure can very often cure a "stuttering" problem that can occur when AVI video files with packed bitstreams are played on DivX enabled DVD players. This stuttering can be observed as a jerkiness when the camera pans in the movie.

Note, to run this application, you need to have the mono framework installed on your computer.
