REC 2.0.2
REC is a simple recording utility for classic Mac OS more>>
REC is a simple recording utility for classic Mac OS, designed to be an alternative to the Sound control panels record function. Since this is a small stand-alone application, it is much easier and faster to use than Apples Sound control panel.
Say goodbye to digging through folders (or menus) to open the Sound control panel or a big, slow sound editing program to record a simple sound. Just double-click the REC icon, and presto - you are recording. REC will save the sounds you record in System-7 sound format.
Enhancements:
- Increased the Minimum memory setting (in the Get Info window) to 400K.
- REC was unable to start up on some systems because its memory partition was too small.)
- Added extra checking for unavailable system calls (Gestalt etc.) at startup.

TCPIP Configuration Switcher 1.0
TCPIP Configuration Switcher - TCPIP configuration switcher script more>>
TCPIP Configuration Switcher - If you find yourself switching among several TCP/IP configurations frequently (say between a dial up Internet connection and a local area network), you know that this procedure can become quite tedious. You must open the TCP/IP control panel, select Configurations... from the File menu, activate the new configuration, then close the control panel.
TCPIP Configuration Switcher is designed to reduce the procedure to two or three quick key presses or mouse clicks by taking advantage of the Network Setup Scripting scripting addition. You assign the script to a Function key, so that it is activated by pressing that key. Then you choose the desired TCP/IP configuration from a list, and the change is made automatically for you.
Note that if you need to switch among several dial up configurations, you will have to modify the script to also change the Remote Access configuration.

Startup Player 2.1
Startup Player - Control panel that plays a sound over and over during the startup process more>>
Startup Player is a definitely cool control panel that plays a sound over and over during the startup process, until all other extensions and control panels have loaded and the Finder comes out.
Starting from version 2.1, a shutdown sound can also be played when the Mac is restarted or shut down. All startup and shutdown sounds can be either fixed or picked at random.
If a folder named Shutdown Sounds is found inside the Startup Player Items folder, Startup Player copies a randomly chosen file from that folder to the Shutdown Items folder, calling it SP Shutdown Sound and replacing any existing file with that name. The shutdown sound is then played when you restart or shut down your Mac. If you do not wish to have a sound played at shutdown time, just remove all sounds from the Shutdown Sounds and Shutdown Items folders.
Since youll want Startup Player to start playing early in the startup process, you may add a space before the control panel name and move it inside the Extensions folder.
If youre using some kind of startup manager, put Startup Player among the first extensions to load. Note that on some system configurations the Sound Manager and QuickTime extensions must load before Startup Player.

PowerClicks 1.2
PowerClicks - Control Panel that uses the keyboard to replace your mouse button more>>
The mouse button key is useful if you have to use your PowerBook in a very silent environment, where even a trackball click is too loud; since the keyboard is a lot more quiet than the trackball button, youll be able to use your trackball while other people are reading or even sleeping. You may also use this option to temporarily replace a broken mouse button on any Macintosh.
The button-toggle key is useful if you want to use your PowerBook trackball with only one hand. I find it hard to move the ball while keeping the button down, and I often release the trackball button before the dragging is over. This can be very annoying when you are selecting a command from a menu (releasing the button makes your fingers move so the cursor slips away). Using the button-toggle key should make your life a lot easier: strike the key once and move the cursor where it should be, then take your whole hand away from the trackball and strike the key again.
The graphical effects lets you see where both real and virtual mouse clicks occur.
Many extensions and control panels create virtual mouse clicks to gain control over the environment - take a look at Now Utilities Super Boomerang for a good example.
Main features:
- it can make a key combination act just like the mouse button;
- it can make another key combination toggle the mouse button on and off;
- it can assign graphical effects to mouse clicks.

NoDesktopCleanup 1.5
NoDesktopCleanup - Control panel that lets you add a confirmation dialog or a KeyQuencer Macro to any menu item more>>
NoDesktopCleanup is a cool control panel that lets you add a confirmation dialog or a KeyQuencer Macro to any menu item in any application.
The unusual name comes from the original task I wrote this control panel for: disabling the annoying Clean Up Desktop and Clean Up All menu items in the Finder, which often make ones life miserable by moving all the icons on the desktop away from their carefully chosen locations.
You can run KeyQuencer Macros whenever a menu item is selected, either as an addition to the original command or as a custom replacement.
NoDesktopCleanup also provides a useful auto-confirm timer which prevents your Mac from hanging forever when its working alone and theres no user to press the OK or Cancel buttons.

NA_WorkSheet 2006-02-22
NA_WorkSheet project is a collective aggregation of algorithms more>>
NA_WorkSheet project is a collective aggregation of algorithms written in Java that implements various numerical analysis solutions and techniques.
The worksheet has been designed to allow a simple user interface for accessing and executing each numerical method. Each numerical analysis algorithm will normally require some type of input. The input will normally come in the form of an input equation/data and parameters for controlling the execution of the algorithm. Output from each algorithm approximation is directly available as either a solution or combination solution and intermediate data. The NA_Worksheet also provides the capability to graph an input equation with the ability to both translate and scale the resultant plot.
Upon running the NA_Worksheet application/applet the user will be presented with a standard 800x600 pixel frame that will conform to the host workstations look and feel, theme. The frame can be resized to any desired dimension. The users interface for the worksheet is divided into a quadripartite. In the upper left quadrant is the graph panel. Here plots can be viewed of the equation that is input for analysis.
The upper right panel holds the main input, where various numerical methods can be selected and executed. The panel also provides a text box where the input equation for analysis can be entered. Two main buttons allow the user to either execute the selected approximation or graph the input equation.
The lower left panel houses several tabbed panes that allows data output to be viewed, function evaluation, or controls for the graph panel to be accessed. The graph tab also includes the present grid scaling on the graph and coordinate information. The final panel in the lower right quadrant is particular to each selected numerical approximation. This panel provides the parameter selection and input for each chosen numerical method. A condensed list of the panels and there names follows:
- Graph Panel - Upper left quadrant.
- Main Input Panel - Upper right quadrant
- Output/Graph Control Panel - Lower left quadrant
- Approximation Method Panel - Lower right quadrant

MenuCapture 1.0.2
MenuCapture - Take a picture of the screen with a menu pulled down more>>
Once in a while, I need to take a picture of the screen with a menu pulled down, in order to document one of my shareware programs. If I did this every day, I suppose I wouldnt mind paying for a screen capture program with all the bells and whistles, but as it is, I resist. Years ago, there was a tiny freeware extension called StillDown, by Gregory M. Robbins, that enabled command-shift-3 screen shots with menus pulled down. But StillDown doesnt work with Mac OS 8. Therefore, I decided to write a new free bare-bones menu snapshot program: MenuCapture.
In Mac OS 8.1 and later, if you pull down a menu with a click rather than a click-and-hold, you can snap its picture without the aid of MenuCapture. Thats why MenuCapture is on the Obsolete page.
To install MenuCapture, drop it in your Control Panels folder and reboot.
To use MenuCapture, open the MenuCapture control panel and click the "Enable" checkbox. Then pull down a menu, and press the keys command, shift, and control simultaneously. What happens next depends on what version of the system you are running. With System 7.6 or later, the cursor turns into a cross-hair; let up the mouse button, then click and drag to select a rectangle to be copied to the clipboard. With earlier systems, a snapshot of the whole screen is saved as a picture file on your disk.
The actual picture-taking is done by the built-in screen capture FKEYs: FKEY 4 in the case of System 7.6 and later, FKEY 3 in the case of older software that did not have FKEY 4.
Enhancements:
- Makes it more obvious how to capture a contextual menu, by ensuring that the cursor changes to a cross-hair.
- I also attempted to clarify the text in the control panel.
