RPG is a password generator that addresses the need for random passwords (and other random character strings) of specific lengths and constitutions.

There are many password-generating utilities available, representing many different philosophies. RPGs design goal is to produce the most secure passwords constrained by the limitations -- length and character set -- imposed by the systems in which the passwords are to be used. RPG is most useful in concert with a keychain or password wallet.

Xyzzy is a pronounceable password generator. It is useful for network or server administrators that find themselves creating new user accounts on a regular basis and need to come up with passwords for them.

The reasons to use a pronounceable password generator such as xyzzy are simply because passwords based on dictionary words are easy to crack by brute force methods, and passwords which are hard to remember usually need to be written down which makes them vulnerable to being found by prying eyes.

MHW allows you to check the resistance of OS X passwords on OSX server orpersonnal workstation or any other DES encrypted password files. It can also be really usefull for people who lost their OS X or any other DES password.

Password Changer is a POPPASSD client for the Macintosh. POPPASSD is the protocol used by Eudora and other POP mail clients for changing passwords. It is not very secure - it does not encrypt passwords on the network but it does offer a good solution to people who want to use a different mailer with POPPASSD support in a controlled environment - for example a classroom. There are POPPASSD daemons available for most versions of UNIX including Linux.

Password Changer was written in PowerPlant - a C++ framework by Metrowerks. It connects to the server using MacTCP calls. The program first asks for the users username and password (note that if the Macintoshs user name is a single word then it will put this into the user name field as a default) The program then asks for the users new password, which must be typed in twice. If the two are not the same then the program aborts. Only after this stage the program attempts to make a network connection.

Ask For Password is a password protection script for Microsoft Outlook Express and Microsoft Entourage. The script provides the same level of security found in Outlook Express version 4.x. The script prompts you for a password when your emailer is launched. It also allows you to change your password and set certain characteristics of the script via a built-in user interface. The script has full support for multiple identities.
The first time the script is run (and when the Command key is held down during script startup), the script displays a settings window allowing you to configure the script options. The script optionally closes the emailers Main Window immediately at startup, leaving the contents hidden until the user enters the password correctly. When the user enteres the password correctly, the script displays the emailers Main Window and allows the user to access to the emailer.
Enhancements:
- Changed the code for opening and closing the Main window and for obtaining the current identity into raw event code. This prevents AppleScript from asking you to locate "Outlook Express" or "Microsoft Entourage" if you do not have it installed. The bad side effect of this is that you have to edit some parts of the script each time you save the script, or the script will generate errors the next time you run it. If you edit the script, please read the IMPORTANT NOTICE at the top of the script and follow the instructions for best results.

Crypto Wizard is an useful AppleScript that encrypts/decrypts any text in the clipboard with a password. It uses a mathematical transformation for text encryption and seems to be quite secure.
