Skype 2.8.0.438 Beta / 2.7.0.330

Skype 2.8.0.438 Beta / 2.7.0.330

A fully-features Internet Telephoning software (VOiP). more>> A fully-features Internet Telephoning software (VOiP).

Skype is the next phenomenon from the people who brought you KaZaA. Just like KaZaA, Skype uses P2P (peer-to-peer) technology to connect you to other users not to share files this time, but to talk and chat with your friends.
Skype is created with an extremely advanced technology but super simple to use... Youll be making free phone calls to your friends in no time!
Our softwares quick and easy to get started with. Download, register, install, plug in your headset, speakers or USB phone and start calling your friends.
The calls have excellent sound quality and are highly secure with end-to-end encryption. You dont even need to configure your firewall or router or any other networking gear. It just, you know works.

Main features:
- When it comes to talking, instant messaging or transferring files, weve gone to great lengths to make it secure. Skype automatically encrypts everything before sending it through the internet. Likewise, on arrival everything is decrypted on-the-spot and presented as crystal clear speak, text or a file transfer nobody can intercept
- All the security in the world wouldnt matter, though, if you couldnt hear the other person. With Skype, you can. Were working with the very best in the industry to provide a sound quality far superior to what youre used to from ordinary telephones. If you will bear with us for a moment here wed like to share some technical stuff with you: with normal telephones you can only hear sounds from 300 Hz to 3 kHz. Not so with Skype; Were all over the spectrum, from the lowest hum to the highest screetch. In other words: will sound like the two different letters they were meant to, and in the end you will be able to have a much more natural conversation
- That also goes for conferences. Its completely secure for you and up to four others to get together to coordinate tactics in a game, make one of those important business decisions or simply have a chat, even if youre all on different continents
- earching for those long-lost relatives or just somebody to have a quick chat with is also part of what Skype is all about. We have what we call a Global User Directory. Its a giant phonebook of all the people who use Skype. You can use it to search for people youd like to talk to, people who have the same birthday or people who just happen to live in the same street as you
- When you find somebody you know or even someone you would like to know, you add them to your list of contacts. You can also write a little note to let them know who you are and why you want to add them to your list. Handy, if your separated-at-birth-twin finds you on Skype. When people are on your list, you can see if they are online, offline, busy... or perhaps out to lunch
- Did we mention that you can also send instant messages with Skype? Well, you can. Thats nice for when youre talking about a website and you want to send that really long address or if youre writing a song maybe. Either way, you can send one of those little smiley faces along with your message. Smile to the world and the world smiles back

audiospectrum 1.2

audiospectrum 1.2

audiospectrum - Screensaver reacts to ambient sound. (was audioparticle, audioparticolor) more>>
audiospectrum is a very simple quartz screensaver that reacts to ambient audio. Its simple as possible to keep processor load and heat minimal. This is the good one, in my opinion, the screenshot really doesnt do it justice.
Click the More Information link on this page for all the other audio-based quartz screensavers Ive made. I may try to combine some of these, but keeping CPU use low is the priority.
To use these create (if it doesnt already exist) a folder called "Screen Savers" in your ~/Library folder and place the file there. It will then be available in ScreenSavers preference pane.
Note: If you are using a PowerMac or other computer without a built in microphone, you need to either adjust your default input in Sound Preference Pane so the screensaver can "hear" it, or email me or leave a comment if that doesnt work, so I can provide a version that monitors the line in. (I dont have a computer like this to test it on.)
Enhancements:
- I figured out how to separate the audio spectrum, so there is a low, mid, and high band! The color of each band depends on the relative strengths of each band so its kinda interesting actually, and its quite responsive.

imager 1.0

imager 1.0

imager - Stereo imaging VST plugin more>>
imager is a free VST plugin to re-image stereo audio streams. It is easiest to think of the 3 modifying parameters to imager in terms of a pair of microphones setup facing each other at a 90 degree angle as in a blumlein stereo recording.

imager can be used to change the orientation of the microphones after the recording has been made by tweaking the parameters:

* direction in which to "zoom"

* zoom adjusts the "angle" of the microphones, where:
-1 points the microphones fully towards eachother, resulting in a mono sound +-90 degrees from the zoom "direction
+1 puts both microphones pointing in the set zoom "direction", resulting in a mono sound
* rotation "turns" the microphone stand.

These applescripts are designed to give voice control to iTunes using Apples speakable items features, and switch back to Snood to keep the Powerbook awake.

Conan the Librarian X 1.1

Conan the Librarian X 1.1

Conan the Librarian X is a torture tool more>>
What is Conan the Librarian X?
A torture tool. Conan tells you to shut up when the incoming sound on your built in microphone reaches certain levels. This is a port of a very, very old System 7 extension for the Macintosh. It was one of my favorite useless apps for the Classic Mac OS.
How do I use Conan the Librarian X?
Ideally, you should install this app on the Mac of someone you hate. I have a list of 67 people, personally. Once installed on the Macintosh of your foe, double click the icon to launch. It runs as a faceless background application, so it will look as if nothing has happened. When running, Conan the Librarian listens in on the built in microphone. When the sound level gets to a certain point, it will tell you to shut up. The more sound that comes in, the angrier the Governor gets. If you need to kill the application because your life is being threatened, open up a Terminal window and type in the following command:
killall QUIT "Conan The Librarian"
Conan the Librarian X is 159% freeware. You may redistribute the application as you see fit, without notification to myself, as long as no fee is collected.
Enhancements:
- Version 1.1 is a little less sensitive to sounds.
- If Conan is still too sensitive, try lowering the Input Volume in the System Preferences (under Sound->Input).

The Levelator 1.1.0

The Levelator 1.1.0

The Levelator adjusts the audio levels within your podcast or other audio file more>>
So what is The Levelator? Its software that runs on Windows or OS X (universal binary) that adjusts the audio levels within your podcast or other audio file for variations from one speaker to the next, for example.

Its not a compressor, normalizer or limiter although it contains all three. Its much more than those tools, and its much simpler to use.

The UI is dirt-simple: Drag-and-drop any WAV or AIFF file onto The Levelers application window, and a few moments later youll find a new version which just sounds better.

Have you ever recorded an interview in which you and your guest ended up at different volumes? How about a panel discussion where some people were close to microphones and others were not?

These are the problems the post-production engineers of Team ITC solve every day, and it used to sometimes take them hours of painstaking work with expensive and complex tools like SoundTrack Pro, Audacity, Sound Forge or Audition to solve them. Now it takes mere seconds. Seriously. The Levelator is unlike any other audio tool youve ever seen, heard or used. Its magic. And its free.

When we developed the IT Conversations component-based show-assembly system (the first generation of GigaVox Audio Lite, see below), we realized all the components had to be of the same loudness or the results would sound awful. We limped along for many months using the RMS normalization functions in various applications, but the results werent satisfactory and it required tools and skillsets that some of our post-production audio engineers didnt have.

One of our best engineers, Bruce Sharpe, offered to write a standalone software RMS normalization utility, which weve been using as part of our production system GVUploader for nearly a year.

The GVUploaders normalizer acts similar to an intelligent RMS-based compressor/limiter combination, and it therefore affects primarily the short-term (transient) sounds and the long-term overall loudness of the file. It doesnt make the kind of adjustments that a skilled audio engineer can perform in software or at a mixing console, riding the levels up and down to compensate for medium-term variations.

There are some hardware devices such as various AGC (automatic-gain control) components that can do moderate leveling, but since they have to operate in real time (i.e., without look-ahead), they cant do much. And they arent cheap, let alone free.

Even a skilled human can only react to changes unless s/he is lucky enough to be present during a recording session and can use visual cues to anticipate coming variations. Software can do better by performing multiple passes over the audio, generating a loudness map of where the volume changes. (Its not actually that simple, but the metaphor can help.)
