The Broadband Tuner allows you to take full advantage of very high speed Internet connections that have a high latency (5 Mbps or faster). The installer tweaks some system parameters.

There is an optional uninstaller that can be used to restore the settings that were in effect at the time just before the system parameters were changed.

The installer increases the default values for the size of the TCP send and receive buffers. With larger buffers more data can be in transit at once. A startup configuration file is also updated so that these changes will persist across restarts.

The system parameters are sysctl variables that are set as follows:

net.inet.tcp.sendspace: 131072
net.inet.tcp.recvspace: 358400
kern.ipc.maxsockbuf: 512000

This change has a system wide effect and is applied even if the network is not high speed connection with a high latency, with the exception of modem connections for which the system uses small default TCP buffer sizes.

- Video viewing and video capture is supported in window sizes of up to 640 x 480 pixels. For the highest-quality video and TV viewing, use the standard video window sizes (Smallest, Normal, or Largest) in Apple Video Players Windows menu. If you choose to customize the window size (by choosing Other in the Windows menu), the images resolution may decrease.
- In addition, video resolution is optimized when you view the Apple Video Player video window on the monitor connected to the monitor port on your Macintosh. - Movies are captured at the current volume setting. Set the volume to the desired level before recording a movie. Movies recorded when the sound is muted will not have any sound.

fork can be a handy tuner during recording sessions, a real-time or post-process pitch corrector or a pitch corrected or reference pitch monitor feed.

In order to use Mac Digital TV / HDTV applications such as iTele, you need a driver that is a member of the MMInput family of device drivers.
This family has been created to support multimedia input devices such as Digital TV cards. It is called the MultiMedia Input Family because its use is not restricted to Digital TV applications alone: DVB and its cousins like ATSC promise all sorts of other media goodies, such as interactive TV shows (vote with your remote), IP over the air (internet downloads), data channels (weather/stockmarket), near video on demand (movie starts every half hour), and many others. Hopefully the MMInputFamily will eventually be adopted by writers of commercial drivers or Apple, but we could be waiting a while for that.
Enhancements:
- Download the MultiMedia Input Family and Drivers v0.8.4 package from 17/5/2006
- Ported all drivers and UDMarket to the Intel X86 architecture. Was irritating but straightforward. (Mustnt have been too hard since I managed to get it working without an Intel machine to test it on.) The full complement of BEUInt32, LEUInt32 and plain-old UInt32 plus other sizes are now available in FTypes.hpp using funky assembler inlines for speed.
- Change above required updating to XCode 2.2 and gcc 4.0. Since the latest gcc mangles ObjC qualifiers differently (its a bug), some hacks were required to keep the wire protocol unchanged. I believe I have succeeded here, i.e. older versions of iTele (incl over network) should remain compatible with these new drivers.
- MMInputShims in UDMarket now listen for sleep notifications. Before the system goes to sleep, they withdraw their goods from the market, deactivate their device and invalidate any remaining clients. When the system wakes back up, they vend their goods on the market again. This means that finally a system with active devices will survive sleep, even if they are streaming! The withdrawal/revending is necessary for remote clients (who arent sleeping with us), and although its a little annoying for local clients its actually a whole lot saner and a case that the clients (i.e. iTele) should deal with anyway.
- Beta version of support for the LGDT3303 as found in the FusionHDTV 5 ATSC PCI card and USB box (LGH064F tuner only).
- The LGDT330X driver now supports selecting between 8VSB and QAM64/256 by setting the Constellation tuning parameter (to a number: 64/256=QAM; other=VSB).
- Beta driver for the TwinHan MagicBox Pro (using ULi M9207). Having problems talking to the tuner.
- Support for the UltraView DVB-T Lite PCI board.
- Attempted to get TT-Budget 1500 to work but gave up and had to return card. Some architectural improvements in the TDA1004X driver resulted from this at any rate.
- Attempted to update to the latest firmwares for the DVICO FusionHDTV USB DVB-T box. I may still have selected the wrong one however since there are multiple versions inside the Windows driver now.
- Made a dummy PCI driver called DeepSleeper to attach to unused ConexantCX2388X PCI functions, since in Mac OS X 10.4.2 (and possibly later systems too) deep sleep is no longer possible unless all functions are matched. Very annoying.

EarToner is ear training software to help you learn to identify various musical sounds such as intervals, chords, scales and whether two notes are in tune with each other. EarToner is designed to be easy to use and quick to setup.
I originally wrote a rough version for myself just for identifying intervals. When I mentioned it to other musical friends they were very interested in using it also. I thought I would just formalize it a little more and release it for free on the internet to whoever wants to use it.
Main features:
General:
- number of items played - currently the scoring only indicates how many correct guesses youve made and how many guesses youve made total.
- playback mode - click on the buttons and have it play the interval/chord (currently only has a testing mode, so clicking on the buttons is considered a guess at the last interval played)
- documentation - info on working with the various modules and what their settings can do.
Intervals:
- all intervals from a minor second up to a perfect 15th (two octaves) in half step increments.
- direction of intervals (only play up or down, or both randomly)
- set tonic - this helps newer ears learning to hear just a few intervals in from a single reference point.
- allowable range - keeps the notes within a certain number of octaves above and below middle C so it doesnt get too ridiculous.
- ability to play the intervals separately or together.
- number of intervals - I found that after awhile I could start hearing intervals pretty close to 100&pct of the time, so I thought Id add an extra twist, in the spirit of most college ear training classes requirement for dictation. This helps to develop an intervallic memory of sorts. EarToner will play a certain number of pitches, and you must identify the interval between them in the proper order.

Chords:
- chords able to be tested on Major Triad, Minor Triad, Augmented Triad, Diminished Triad, Major 7th, Dominant 7th, Minor 7th, Minor-Major 7th (1, b3, 5, 7), Half-Diminished 7th (1, b3, b5, b7), Full-Diminished 7th (1, b3, b5, bb7), Augmented-Major 7th (1, 3, #5, 7) and Augmented 7th (1, 3, #5, b7).
- inversions - ability to select which inversions of chords as well as the chords you wanted to be trained on.
- allowable range - keeps the notes within a certain number of octaves above and below middle C so it doesnt get too ridiculous.
- set tonic - probably if someone is going to want it for intervals, theyre going to want it for chords too.
- arppeggiation of chord - seems handy for hearing all of the intervals in the chord when trying to learn new chords.
Scales:
- scales able to be tested on Major (Ionian), Natural Minor (Aeolian), Harmonic Minor, Melodic Minor, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Locrian, Whole Tone, Chromatic, Major Pentatonic, Minor Pentatonic, Blues, Diminished Whole/Half, Diminished Half/Whole.
- allowable range - keeps the notes within a certain number of octaves above and below middle C so it doesnt get too ridiculous.
- set tonic - same as above.
Tuning:
- Playing of two notes to identify whether the second note is sharp, flat or in tune
- Variable length of notes in time.
- Variable offset of the second note from the first note, from being played at the same time to playing immediately after the first note.
- Ability to select different sound (MIDI patch) for the second note
- User selectable maximum detuning, so the second note can be out of tune from the first one as far as a whole step (good for young ears learning to identify lower and higher).
- Changeable granularity for the second note, so the detuning of the second note can be anywhere from 1/64th of a whole step all the way up to a whole step
- set tonic - same as other modules
- interval - separate the two notes by a set interval. Good for string players and others that need to learn to tune in 4ths, 5ths, etc.
- direction - for using an interval other than unison allows the second note to be above, below or randomly selected by EarToner.
Enhancements:
- This release adds new playback functionality of incorrect guesses.
- A simple Windows executable has been created.
