Sigma Chess HIARCS Lite 6.1.4 appears as a very niche Macintosh chess program for both OS X and Classic Mac OS.

The feature set includes: Optional HIARCS engine, UCI Engine support, Databases, PGN/EPD, basic desktop publishing, endgame databases, novice levels, a true perspective 3D board, ExaChess compatibility and much more.

MacChess 5.01 is a game including simple levels for beginners to play. It features an expanded opening book, an option to show you your best move, and a log to record your moves. In addition, MacChess can play against GNUChess, Crafty, or other chess applications when using the ExaChess Lite utility. MacChess is no cream puff of a game--it has some levels that are mighty hard to whip, and it has won awards in some hardcore computer chess tournaments. It now includes a move generator, a larger chess board and classic piece set, a results window, and new icons.

Yacht! (Yet Another Chess 3D) is a 3D chess game for 2 human players.
It supports all the standard chess rules and has some addictional graphic option, including the ability to show the moves a player can perform and it has a game log.

Scatha is a simple chess program for Mac OS X.

Three chess variants are supported: Normal chess, Chess960 and hexagonal chess.

The GUI uses the Universal Chess Interface protocol to communicate with the chess engine. This makes it possible to load third-party chess engines like Fruit, Hiarcs or Shredder and use them in the Scatha GUI.

Chess Training Tools is a collection of chess training tools. It includes a chess visualization trainer that teaches chess visualization by drilling you on the color of a particular square, and also on your ability to tell if two squares are the same color, if two (or three) squares are on the same diagonal, if two squares are a knight move apart, or if two squares are two knight moves apart.
This is a program that I wrote for my own use to improve my chess visualization ability. I decided to share it with other players, since I believe they can benefit from it. It basically helps you remember what color the squares are, how the pieces move, and so on, all in your head.
It does so by posing you various excercises that, if practiced every day, will let you visualize positions without the aid of a board.
I use this tool every day. You may want to use it the way I do, or you could develop your own method of training. I work my way through the panels, doing 20 of each excercise. I proceed Color->Same Color->Diagonal 2->Diagonal 3->Knight->Knight 2->Mate.
Then, after all of that I play a game against Vince. Start slow, by either lagging the display by one ply, or by blanking out one quadrant. Work your way up to the 7 ply and four quadrants.
