If youre having problems on your system with text appearing "garbled" as in the image on my homepage (see the "More Information" link to the right), it could be caused by corrupt font cache files.

What appears to be happening is that incorrect or corrupted encoding vector information is being used when mapping the character codes as input by your keyboard to the glyphs they represent in the problematic font.

You can run Font Cache Cleaner to purge these cache files in an attempt to restore normal behavior. If you use Font Cache Cleaner but the problem remains, then it could be caused by a font conflict or by a corrupt font. Try removing fonts to isolate the problematic fonts that are causing this behavior.

An article on MacDevCenter talked about using applescript as an alternative to Safaris "Empty Cache" feature.

It unfortunately wouldve been better off as a shell script than an applescript. I rewrote the script to be more applescript-like.

DS_Store Cleaner is a great tool for getting rid of .DS_Store Files which are created by the Mac OS X Finder. In older versions of Mac OS X, the .DS_Store file posed a security risk (SecurityFocus.com) because it had system configuration information stored inside. This has been fixed as of Mac OS X 10.1.
DS_Store files can be extremely annoying when you transfer files and folders to other systems. Windows and Linux make these files visible and they get in the way. If you are creating a CD, these .DS_Store files can also be visible.
There are two ways to get rid of these pesky files using DS_Store Cleaner.
If you have the Mac OS X or Windows version, just drag the folder you want to have cleaned onto the Application icon. DS_Store Cleaner will launch and prompt you to select a folder to clean. Once selected, DS_Store Cleaner will clean the folder and any sub folders. When it is finished, you will see an alert box which tells you how many .DS_Store files have been deleted.

ViaVoice Text Cleaner is a "Real Mans" typing correction script by RGS for ViaVoice. In reality, this script is just for changing minor punctuation marks around.

An example would be [space][space] would turn to [space] (for double spacing after a period). Many more other minor modifications for text are also built into this script.
