SingleFramer is a frame-capture application developed in MAX/MSP/JITTER for students at the Cooper Union art school in NYC, USA.
It allows you to capture individual frames from a DV camera, either manually or automatically (time-lapse). You can use "onion-skinning" to see an overlay of your previous frame as you compose your shot. You can load an existing movie so you can match your setup from a previous day. (Useful if you need to break down borrowed equipment between shoots).

AnimAide - Stop motion animation more>>
AnimAide is for stop motion animation but it could also be used other traditional animation (e.g. pencil tests). It captures frames from a digital still camera or it may be used in conjunction with other remote capture software. (Preferably with a live feed).
This software does not interface with video and is intended for high definition output. It supports JPEG and TIFF images. If you are intent on using video, you could still use AnimAide along with other video capture software as a reference. Just point the project directory to the place where the video image files are being stored on the hard drive. It also has a view window that is completely transparent when the source is fully off and it allows you to see other applications (frame grabbers, live feeds) behind it. So other animation software can work in conjunction with AnimAide. Script automation in preferences allows for switching between AnimAide and another software.

CamTwist is tool that lets you add nice special effects to your video chats. Its also possible to stream your desktop and still images. With CamTwist, you can also use multiple video chat programs at the same time.
CamTwist comes with an installer package and manual install instructions. Install the CamTwist driver along with the application program. Youll need to configure your chat software to use the CamTwist camera. Once that is done, launch the CamTwist application and have fun.
CamTwist comes with a few different pieces. At the lowest level, there is a QuickTime component that pretends to be a camera driver. What it does in reality is display the video frames that it collects from the CamTwist application.
The CamTwist application is responsible for collecting the video frames, adding the special effects, and then feeding the images to the QuickTime component.
Please note: CamTwist does NOT work with iChat.
