Permissions Reset 1.0 is a useful program created to handle one of the most serious problems with Mac OS X computers - permissions problems.
Permissions Problems range from not being to save your own work into your Documents folder, not being able to update files that others have sent you - all the way to applications not working correctly or even crashing!
Permissions are a security mechanism that can control how you and others interact with files. Sometimes these permissions get incorrectly set, or messed up and then the pain begins.
Major Features:
- Permissions Reset, will reset the permissions on anything! be it a disk, folder, application or simply a document, and it's easy to use and operates fast.
- All you need to do is drag the offending file, folder or application in the Permissions Reset window and hit the "Reset" button. Problem solved.
- The advanced section of the Permissions Reset makes it easier to understand the permissions of files, the permissions section of Get Info within the Finder is baffling to many and useless to most.

Fix Permissions By SW runs the CLI repair disk permissions command.

Great for using with ARD/NetBoot.
When the "installer" is run, Disk Utility runs its "repair permissions" command in the background. If you want to "repair permissions" again, "install" the package again.
This program runs the command
"sudo diskutil repairPermissions /"
Thats it....its just in a package to make life easier.
Enhancements:
- More logging for system events
- Log files now placed in separate directory (/Library/Logs/SISUWORKS/FixPermissionsBySW.log)
- Reduced dependency on executing commands as root, due to the fact that root authentication is required anyways
- Forced Software to only run on Root volume (currently booted volume) to clear up some confusion.

One of the more ironic permissions issues in OS X Jaguar is when the permissions of the Disk Utility application itself become corrupted. This can prevent you from being able to use Disk Utilitys "Repair Permissions" tab to repair the permissions on your disk, including those of the Disk Utility application itself.
Repair Disk Utilitys Permissions can fix this corruption which would result in the following type of "Operation not permitted" errors reported in the Repair Permissions progress window:
- User differs on ./Applications, should be 0, owner is 501
- Group differs on ./Applications, should be 80, group is 99
- Owner and group not corrected on ./Applications, reason Operation not permitted
- Permissions not corrected on ./Applications, reason Operation not permitted.
Enhancements:
- Rewritten as a Cocoa (AppleScript Studio) application with a cleaner interface.
- Added a workaround for an AppleScript bug that could prevent a user whose password is blank from successfully executing the "do shell script" repair procedure.

One of my most frequent instructions to Mac OS X users when I get a help request is to open Disk Utility, select the startup disk volume icon, and click Repair Disk Permissions. Quite often that is the only necessary step to get things working again. So I decided to write this script to let you schedule automatic permission repair for once a week. I dont think it could be made much simpler.
There are several automatic tasks that are routinely scheduled for your Mac OS X system by default. If you care to examine the schedule for them and possibly make adjustments, you might be interested in using a free program called Cronnix.
