The Denim Project, led by Prof. James Landay, is focused on researching tools for designing user interfaces through informal interaction such as sketching.
Denim is the continuation of the original Silk Project, a pen-based sketching tool to design user interface.
Silk combines many of the benefits of paper-based sketching with existing electronic prototyping tools. It allows designers to quickly sketch an interface using an electronic pad and stylus.
Silk preserves the important properties of pencil and paper: a rough drawing can be produced quickly and the medium is flexible. However, unlike a paper sketch, this electronic sketch is interactive and can easily be annotated and modified using editing gestures.

- Enhancing the visual sketching language to support more complex events (e.g. animation, roll-overs), conditionals, and custom widgets
- Allowing Denim to exchange data with other web site design tools

Enhancements
- Complete support for exporting a DENIM design as HTML, including exporting built-in components, custom components and conditionals. This makes extensive use of JavaScript embedded in HTML pages.
- You can specify a background image for the entire design using the pie menu item ?Edit->Options?. The background image will appear on each page you create in the design.
- Images can be added to individual pages using the pie menu item ?Insert->Image?. You can manipulate (e.g., resize or copy/paste) an image as you can do with other objects.
- You can specify different fonts families for text in a design. You can specify as many as three different fonts families using the pie menu item ?Edit->Options?. Then you can specify a particular font family for a textual object when you add/edit the object. Selecting an appropriate font also allows you to display text in a language other than English.
- Three different colors are now allowed for text and sketched ink: red, green and black (prior versions only offered black). You can select a color for sketched ink using the pie menu item ?Edit->Ink? and for textual objects when inserting/editing them.
- You can zoom in and out a design with a mouse wheel, i.e., rotating up for zooming out and down for zooming in.
- More bugs have been fixed. Denim is also configured to run with a much larger virtual memory.

SketCons is a set of 33 colorful icons that give the visual impression that they were sketched with colored pencils. The set includes icons that represent folders, arrows, magnafying glasses, newspapers, houses, and packages. A preview of a few of the icons is shown below.

Palette is a simple painting program that even children should findeasy to use. Palette runs on both Windows and Mac OS. Palette-createdpictures are saved in a cross-platform format that can be opened witheither the Windows or Mac versions of Palette.
Palette can also save pictures as platform-specific files (PICTs on the Mac and BMPs onWindows).
Palette has a few simple tools such as pencil, eraser,rectangle and oval, as well as a selection tool.
Main features:
- Everything you need to paint is in one window. On the left are the painting tools and line widths and on the right are the effects and colors. The painting canvas is in the middle.

Sophie is a software designed to handle digital media assemblys, which allows you to combine images, text, video, and audio into a single multimedia document. It is an easy-to-use program that lets you put together documents, slideshows, presentations, annotated videos, and more.

These e-books have many useful features as well as at least one delightfully useless feature. Two of the e-books, "JFK Witness" and Thoreaus "Walden" include guided tours created with the Sophie notebook tool.
This tool allows readers to create and share with others their own indexed and commented "readings" of important texts. Sophies search feature lists the chapter and the phrase for each occurrence of a search string.
On the more or less useless side of the feature list, a copy of Text Blender Pro is built-in to each e-book reader. Paste in any meaningful passage and the text blender will, grind, whip, puree, or liquify it until it is more or less meaningless. A few poets, song-writers or latter-day beatniks will find this to be a useful feature, but for most it will be a delectable distraction.

- Over 204 bugs have resolved since RC5. Although bug fixing was a large part of the work, we did extensive changes to the software to add new features and improve how Sophie works. We completely rewrote the entire text edit subsystem to resolve issues found in RC5, along with adding new feature to the template system to enhance the ability of Sophie to make books. During this process we replaced the entire undo/redo subsystem with a new code base which greatly simplified the interface for developers and enabled many more commands/actions to be undoable.

AnimAide is for stop motion animation but it could also be used other traditional animation (e.g. pencil tests). It captures frames from a digital still camera or it may be used in conjunction with other remote capture software. (Preferably with a live feed).
This software does not interface with video and is intended for high definition output. It supports JPEG and TIFF images. If you are intent on using video, you could still use AnimAide along with other video capture software as a reference. Just point the project directory to the place where the video image files are being stored on the hard drive. It also has a view window that is completely transparent when the source is fully off and it allows you to see other applications (frame grabbers, live feeds) behind it. So other animation software can work in conjunction with AnimAide. Script automation in preferences allows for switching between AnimAide and another software.
