When The Font Chooser is opened, it discovers the fonts on your machine. You can type a single line of text into 3 different text boxes and then use a scroll bar (font fader) to move through your available typefaces.

This gives you a very quick way to compare and contrast type-faces within relative context of each other. It was inspired by Apples font size scroll bar in the text edit application, and an amazing amount of frustration with the way this process is currently handled in most design programs. Sexton Sans Font is a powerful, perfect and popular Icon font tool. This typeface is found from footage like money, old magazines, boardgames from the 60's, or lables on bottles of liquor. The capital letters are dirtier than the small ones. Try using this font in combination with Sexton Serif font. Some characters contain additional dirt.

The default set of sounds you get with Quicktime is a bit short on free-reed instruments, and in particular there is no concertina sound. This is a very high quality Sound Font in SF2 format, made from my own baritone Wheatstone English concertina (ca. 1906). It has been compressed with Stuffit, which is not very efficient, as the dedicated packaging programs (SFArk and SFPack) dont yet have Macintosh versions available. Consequently its a very big file - 7.3 Mb in size. You must be using at least version 5 of Quicktime to use it.

To use this file under OS X, unpack it and place the resulting "Concertina.sf2" file in ~/Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks
To use it under Classic systems, place it in System Folder:Extensions:Quicktime Extensions
If you want to use it under both operating systems you can put the file in the OS X location, reboot in OS 9, make an alias of the file and put that in the Quicktime Extensions folder.

You dont have to reboot, or even re-start BarFly. Choose "Add an Instrument" from the Instrument sub-menu. In the Instrument Picker dialog, the Synthesiser popup menu now contains a new synth named "Wheatstone English Concertina". Choose that, then choose one of the three instruments from the Instrument popup.

Apple ][ Font 1.1 is a feature-rich and trustworthy package includes:

The character set includes all normal characters, plus inverse characters, plus MouseText. As a bonus feature, I've also included the original "running man" MouseText characters. The "running man" was eventually replaced by the "inverse carriage return" and the "activated window title bar" on the Apple ROMs.
