Apple Compressor 3.5.1

Apple Compressor 3.5.1

Apple Compressor is designed to provide users with a simple-to-use and effective tool which completes high volume and repetitive encoding tasks up to 55 percent faster more>>

Apple Compressor 3.5.1 is designed to provide users with a simple-to-use and effective tool which completes high volume and repetitive encoding tasks up to 55 percent faster on a Power Mac G5 when compared to a Power Mac G4. The integrated workflow between DVD Studio Pro 2 and Final Cut Pro 4 saves time and hard disk space while delivering pristine-quality video by removing the need for an intermediate export file thereby eliminating generational loss.

Major Features:

  1. Streamlined interface: Encode and output multiple formats from the same source file or even output multiple formats from multiple files. Use the dynamic Preview window to evaluate adjustments in real time as you prepare your footage for encoding. Scrub through your video with frame-accurate timecode controls, trim media, and see the results of effects and filters.
  2. Encoding presets: You can choose from more than 100 intelligent encoding presets that analyze your files to provide the best default setting. Or customize settings, save them for reuse, and apply them to encoding jobs with drag-and-drop ease. Use the new Auto-Detect Settings feature to instantly create a custom preset from an existing file by dragging any QuickTime file into the Settings pane.
  3. Droplets: You can convert any preset to a droplet, a special desktop icon that is used to set up and run a batch process. Just drag your files onto the droplet and let them encode in the background while you do other work. Droplets are now like miniature Compressor applications, complete with adjustable settings. Choose alternative settings at any time by double-clicking the droplet to reveal its interface.
  4. Batch templates: Compressor 3.5 introduces batch templates for automating end-to-end encoding and delivery workflows. For common tasks, you can choose one of the preset batch templates that are similar to those in the Share window in Final Cut Pro 7 and Motion 4. For complete flexibility, create your own templates for use in Compressor, using any combination of settings and destinations, as well as a job action.
  5. Job actions: The new Job Action feature in Compressor 3.5 makes it easy to automate a variety of post-transcoding tasks. Choose a job action to have Compressor open a file, publish it to the web, or send it to your iTunes library. You can also use job actions to burn a Blu-ray disc or a DVD, or even trigger Automator workflows
  6. Job chaining: Sometimes the order in which you perform encoding steps is critical to maintaining quality. Job chaining allows you to use the output of one step as the source for the next step. Quickly set up job chaining in the batch window to arrange the sequence of processes that you need.
  7. Video filters: Compressor includes video filters that offer additional flexibility as you prepare files for output. Preprocess your video with filters for color adjustment, noise reduction, brightness, and contrast. Easily produce footage with timecode burn-in windows or add text overlays. You can even place animated watermarks in your footage by bringing in an Alpha-channel Motion project or QuickTime movie.
  8. Audio filters: Use audio filters to perform final adjustments on your audio before encoding it. Filters include Dynamic Range, Peak Limiter, Graphic Equalizer, and Fade In/Out.
  9. Geometry: Compressor includes easy-to-use controls for reframing your video, including image padding, as well as tools that let you simultaneously crop and scale to adjust the aspect ratio of your video before output. Compressor can detect the requirements of common conversions and automatically crop and scale to avoid letterboxing.
  10. Delivery options: Compressor 3.5 includes a range of convenient delivery options:
    • Blu-ray disc and DVD burning. You can now easily burn a Blu-ray disc or a DVD directly from Compressor. Quickly add a menu to your disc by choosing one of the beautiful Apple-designed HD or SD templates or, to achieve a specific look, import and use third-party or custom templates.
    • Single-click delivery. Compressor includes a window with presets that are similar to those in the Share window in Final Cut Pro and Motion. Export your file to iTunes for syncing with Apple TV; publish to YouTube or MobileMe; or burn a Blu-ray disc or a DVD. You can also access custom Compressor presets with a single click.
    • Automated file transfers with Final Cut Server. Use Final Cut Server to automate any combination of encoding and delivery steps in Compressor, including transfers to broadcast or other production servers.

Enhancements:

  • Addresses general compatibility issues,
  • Improves overall stability,
  • Addresses a number of other minor issues.

CatDV 8.0.3

CatDV 8.0.3

CatDV is regarded as a convenient and professional program which is designed for both standalone and networked operation. more>>

CatDV 8.0.3 is regarded as a convenient and professional program which is designed for both standalone and networked operation.

CatDV is highly scalable so it meets the needs of everyone from individuals all the way through to studios and large production houses:

  • Standalone Products
  • Networked Products

Despite its name (and the ubiquitousness of the DV format), CatDV is designed for all kinds of digital video and media files, not just DV but also including MPEG-2, MXF, MPEG-4, HDV, Uncompressed, WMV, OMFI, JPEG, WAV, and much more.

Major Features:

  1. "iTunes/iPhoto for movies"
    • Apple's iLife apps are great for MP3s and digital photos but CatDV will do the same for movies and tapes. What's more, CatDV works down to the level of clips and scenes within a movie file or on a tape, described by their timecode, not just at the coarse level of complete files on disk.
  2. Logging tool
    • Don't wear out your tape and deck by shuffling it back and forwards as you identify the scenes to use and annotate them. Capture the tape to disk (in compressed form) and log from disk, giving you instant access to any portion of the tape. Use automatic scene detection to take the drudgery out of finding scene boundaries, or use the Verbatim Logger to type in comments, such as notes on the spoken dialogue or the text for subtitles, while the clip is playing - everything you type will automatically be linked to the appropriate timecode.
  3. "QuickTime Pro"
    • QuickTime 7 is fantastic technology. It's much more than a file format but a complete set of components for creating and manipulating all kinds of media files (including MPEG-4 files and the amazing H.264/AAC codecs). However, not all its capabilities are available with the standard QuickTime Player application. CatDV unlocks many of the same extra capabilities as QuickTime Pro: you can play movies, present them full screen, edit movies by assembling clips in sequence, and export them using any QuickTime codec (for example to use on the web, CD-ROM, or a 3G phone).
    • If you have a video-capable iPod, use CatDV to generate iPod-compatible videos of all your key footage and take it with you, wherever you are.
  4. Batch movie conversion
    • CatDV goes further than QuickTime Pro and lets you batch compress multiple movies, and you can easily export not just whole movies but also individual scenes from within a movie file, or even a complete program defined by an edit decision list.
  5. Media asset management
    • CatDV will catalog all your media assets, not just video tapes but also still images, audio files, Flash files, PDFs, etc. With powerful metadata capabilities (both extracted automatically and entered by the user) that can be used for searching and filtering, CatDV will help you organise all those assets - and retrieve them again when you need them.
  6. Advanced workflows
    • You might have video files coming in via FTP, or a tapeless camera such as the Sony XDCAM, often with metadata in an associated XML file. You can use CatDV's XML support, and features like watch folders, to build complex automated workflows that preserve your existing metadata, and allow you to add new tags and annotations, at every stage of the process.
  7. Video editing
    • Mark and in and out points and quickly create a cuts-only sequence from the clips you've found, all from within your asset management database. Export your edited sequence as a movie, or send an edit decision list to Final Cut Pro (or other non-linear editing application) to finish the editing there.
  8. Subtitling and text tracks
    • With CatDV you can quickly and easily add text tracks when exporting movies. Perhaps you want to add subtitles, the clip or project name, or protect your clips by burning in a copyright notice. You can even add a burnt-in display of the timecode or date and time of recording (in the style of a security camera).
  9. Web page generation
    • Use CatDV to export web pages with thumbnails and links to low bandwidth versions of your media files, perhaps to advertise a library of stock clips, or create a film strip version of an edited programme to show on your intranet.
  10. Diagnostic tool
    • Got a file that won't play properly? CatDV's media analysis tool will display detailed information about the format of the file and individual tracks within it, even down to the durations of individual samples, helping you identify missing codecs, corrupt movies, or dropped frames. CatDV will even natively analyse many formats not supported by QuickTime, such as WMV/ASF and OMF files.
  11. Read more about CatDV's core features or some suggested workflows.
    • Any one of these tools on their own could easily save you so much time that CatDV quickly pays for itself, but taken together they mean that CatDV is a completely indispensable tool for anyone who works with digital video and digital media files. What's more, it's completely cross-platform.
    • Even if you only use a few of its features regularly, it's great to have the others available for those odd occasions when you suddenly need them.

Enhancements: Improved event marker functionality.

  7. Sequence Assembly
Sequence Assembly functionality in MacVector is now provided by two modules. First there is a built-in function called Align To Reference. This can be used for two different functions, Sequence Confirmation and cDNA Alignment. This is included with MacVector and allows you to import trace files or sequence files and assemble them against a template sequence. This is ideal for small scale sequencing projects, especially resequencing. For example, checking an in situ mutagenesis experiment, a construct you've just made, or confirming the sequence of a cloned PCR fragment. It's also an excellent tool for SNP analysis, with some special tools to allow you to easily spot mutations from your original template sequence.
For full scale sequencing projects where you do not know the sequence you'll need MacVector and a separately purchased plugin called Assembler. This is a full contig assembly application that uses the phred, phrap and cross_match algorithms from the University of Washington to assembles traces into contigs. It displays full quality scores of the reads and the aligned contigs. The trial version of MacVector also includes the Assembler plugin. Click here to go to the Assembler product page.

Enhancements:

  1. Auto Annotation.
How often have you received or downloaded a vector or other DNA sequence that has no annotations? The new auto annotation function in MacVector 11 can scan a folder full of existing annotated sequences and automatically add matching features to the bare sequence. Not only does the algorithm add the features, but it also copies the appearance information of the matching features so you can be assured that e.g. an ampicillin resistance gene is always a blue arrow, an M13 origin is always a striped red box etc.
In MacVector 11 you can manipulate the ends of restriction fragments before joining them together. A new interface lets you cut back or fill in each end of the source or target molecule before ligation
  2. Floating Analysis Toolbar.
For those users who prefer to click on toolbar buttons to initiate analyses, MacVector 11 introduces a new floating toolbar window containing buttons for all common MacVector analysis functions. You can customize the toolbar to show just the functions you use most often or show them all for rapid access to every available algorithm. You can also add analysis buttons to the toolbars of normal sequence windows for ready access to commonly used functions.
  3. Sequence Editor Changes
The primary sequence editor has been rewritten using modern OS X code to better handle long sequences and to provide an OS X look and feel. In addition, you can now display 3 or 6 frame translations below the sequence that update instantly as you edit the sequence.
  4. Next Generation Sequencing
The optional add-on assembler module has been enhanced to provide support for next generation sequencing machines. Short read data may be imported in Fastq format and assembled them using the latest version of phrap.
  5. Miscellaneous Enhancements.

RAW Developer 1.8.4

RAW Developer 1.8.4

powerful RAW image processing and conversion application designed and optimized specifically for Mac OS X. more>>

RAW Developer 1.8.4 is a very tractable and powerful RAW image conversion application designed and optimized specifically for Mac OS X.

RAW Developer gives advanced photographers total control over every aspect of their digital camera's output, yet still provides easy drag and drop batch conversion and access to basic adjustments for the casual user. Thanks in large part to Dave Coffin's work on the open source RAW decoding program dcraw, RAW developer is able to support files from over 150 digital camera models.

Note that in spite of using portions of dcraw for decoding RAW image files, essentially the entire image processing pipeline is completely unique to RAW Developer this includes the demosaicing algorithms used for all cameras based on RGB color filters (which is nearly all of them), all color management operations, all other processing adjustments, sharpening, noise reduction and final file format conversion.

Major Features:

  1. Completely non-destructive image processing.
  2. Fast, High Quality Image Previews
  3. High Quality Image Processing, 16 bits/channel (48bit RGB) or for some operations 32 bits per/channel high dynamic range floating point
  4. Easy, flexible batch conversion: High quality image interpolation alogorithms give excellent image detail with minimal demosaicing artifacts. All image processing operations are performed at 16 bits per channel or greater. RAW Developer 1.5 features improved demosaic processing with further refinements to already exceptional image detail and reduced color noise along high contrast edges.
  5. Advanced Sharpening and Noise Reduction Algorithms: RAW Developer offers four advanced sharpening methods, including unsharp mask, difference of gaussian, "hybrid" sharpen and Richardson-Lucy Deconvolution (Mac OS X 10.4 or later only). All are processed in 32 bits/channel floating point CIELab color space to avoid color artifacts. Powerful hot/dead pixel filters and noise reduction algorithms help eliminate noise, especially from images taken with long exposures or high ISO settings.
  6. Image File and EXIF Information Window: RAW Developer offers a meta data information window which displays detailed image file and EXIF information.
  7. Flexible Monochrome (Black And White) Conversion Options: Flexible black and white conversion options including RGB channel mixer, Lab lightness, luma, desaturate, intensity and custom duotones.
  8. Extensive Image Adjustment Options: You're in total control of every step of the conversion process, multiple fully user editable tone curves, customizable color correction matrix, flexible ICC color matching options, exposure compensation, white balance, contrast, saturation and more.
  9. ICC Color Management Support through ColorSync: Ability to specify camera or image specific input profiles, working space profiles for image adjustments and final image output profiles. At this time only RGB color spaces are supported.
  10. Unlimited batch processing: You can continue making image adjustments while other images are converted in the background. Supports, easy drag and drop image conversion with flexible file naming options and support for multiple file formats including JPEG, TIFF, PNG, JPEG2000 and more.
  11. What You See Is What You Get: RAW developer allows you to view and make all image adjustments while viewing a full resolution, fully color managed, 16 bit per channel preview.
  12. Support for EXIF Meta Data: EXIF meta data is supported when exporting to JPEG or TIFF image formats. Supported fields depend on camera model, but generally include shutter speed, aperture, ISO speed, focal length, exposure mode, metering mode, flash information, camera make/model and date digitized.
  13. Flexible Histogram View: Supports 256, 512 or an extra wide 1024 levels of detail. Viewing modes include RGB, individual R, G, B channels, all three colors at once, CIE Lightness, CIE Luminance, CIE Chroma (ab), luminosity, hue and saturation.
  14. Multithreaded and Velocity Engine (AltiVec) (or SSE) optimized: Takes full advantage of multi-core and multi processor systems and the advanced capibilities of the PowerPC G4 and G5 and Intel processors. All image processing is handled by secondary threads so your work is never blocked waiting for processing to complete.
  15. "Processing Disabled" Output Mode: Ability to bypass all image adjustments and all color matching operations for fast, high quality export of linear files intended for further processing with other image processing programs or RAW workflows. Also useful for creating non-color matched output for use in generating custom camera or scene profiles with ICC camera profiling software.

Bazaar 1.16 RC1 / 1.15.1

Free and open source application that adapts to the workflows you want to use Bazaar is a distributed version control system available under the GPL that reduces barriers to participation in your more>> Free and open source application that adapts to the workflows you want to use

Bazaar is a distributed version control system available under the GPL that reduces barriers to participation in your project.
Bazaar is designed to support Mac OS, GNU/Linux, UNIX, Windows. In summary, Bazaar gives you fast, distributed revision control that "Just Works", supporting renames of directories and files smoothly.
Bazaar is designed to maximise the level of community participation in your project.
Bazaar branches can be published on any web server, and uploaded over sftp, ftp, or rsync. If you want the fastest possible network performance, there is a smart server.
Bazaar supports flexible work models: centralized like cvs or svn, commit offline, enforced code review when desired, and automatic regression testing.
Decentralized revision control systems give people the ability to collaborate more efficiently over the internet using the bazaar development model and have many other advantages.
When you use Bazaar, you can commit to your own local branches of your favourite free software projects without needing special permission.

Main features:
Good performance:
- Bazaar status in a tree of 5,000 files takes just 0.5 seconds, so almost every open source project can get the advanced features of Bazaar without slowing down its developers. Bazaar is robust in the face of radical tree restructuring, saving you time when it comes to merging from your community.
Safe with your data:
- There have not been any data loss bugs in a Bazaar release in the past two years. Bazaar has a huge test suite that ensures that new file formats can be tested automatically. The development process follows best practice with code review of all core and community code landings.
Friendly:
- Bazaar "Just Works" (which is why the Ubuntu team chose it for their project). Bazaar has a natural feel, you can publish your code on any web server or use a custom server for performance. Bazaar has perfect support for renaming files AND directories, which means you can unleash your community and merge efficiently even from contributors who are radically restructuring the tree.
Free:
- Bazaar is available under the GPL v2 or later.
Easy to integrate:
- Bazaar is designed as a Python API with a plugin system, so it is easy to embed in your tools and projects and easy to extend or integrate with existing infrastructure. Whether you are managing your development, or keeping track of configuration files, or building a new content management system, Bazaar is a great choice if you like to work in Python.

Enhancements
Compatibility Breaks:
- Display prompt on stderr (instead of stdout) when querying users so that the output of commands can be safely redirected. (Vincent Ladeuil, #376582)
New Features:
- A new repository format 2a has been added. This is a beta release of the the brisbane-core (aka group-compress) project. This format now suitable for wider testing by advanced users willing to deal with some bugs. We would appreciate test reports, either positive or negative. Format 2a is substantially smaller and faster for many operations on many trees. This format or an updated version will become the default in bzr 2.0.
- This is a rich-root format, so this repository format can be used with bzr-svn. Bazaar branches in previous non-rich-root formats can be converted (including by merge, push and pull) to format 2a, but not vice versa. We recommend upgrading previous development formats to 2a.
- Upgrading to this format can take considerable time because it expands and more concisely repacks the full history.
- If you use stacked branches, you must upgrade the stacked branches before the stacked-on branches. (See )
- --development7-rich-root is a new dev format, similar to --dev6 but using a Revision serializer using bencode rather than XML. (Jelmer Vernooij, John Arbash Meinel)
- mail_client=claws now supports --body (and message body hooks). Also uses configured from address. (Barry Warsaw)
Improvements:
- --development6-rich-root can now stack. (Modulo some smart-server bugs with stacking and non default formats.) (John Arbash Meinel, #373455)
- --development6-rich-root delays generating a delta index for the first object inserted into a group. This has a beneficial impact on bzr commit since each committed texts goes to its own group. For committing a 90MB file, it drops peak memory by about 200MB, and speeds up commit from 7s => 4s. (John Arbash Meinel)
- Numerous operations are now faster for huge projects, i.e. those with a large number of files and/or a large number of revisions, particularly when the latest development format is used. These operations (and improvements on OpenOffice.org) include: branch in a shared repository (2X faster), branch --no-tree (100X faster), diff (2X faster), tags (70X faster) (Ian Clatworthy)
- Pyrex version of bencode support. This provides optimized support for both encoding and decoding, and is now found at bzrlib.bencode. bzrlib.utils.bencode is now deprecated. (Alexander Belchenko, Jelmer Vernooij, John Arbash Meinel)
Bug Fixes:
- Bazaar can now pass attachment files to the mutt email client. (Edwin Grubbs, #384158)
- Better message in bzr add output suggesting using bzr ignored to see which files can also be added. (Jason Spashett, #76616)
- bzr pull -r 123 from a stacked branch on a smart server no longer fails. Also, the Branch.revision_history() API now works in the same situation. (Andrew Bennetts, #380314)
- bzr serve on Windows no longer displays a traceback simply because a TCP client disconnected. (Andrew Bennetts)
- Clarify the rules for locking and fallback repositories. Fix bugs in how RemoteRepository was handling fallbacks along with the _real_repository. (Andrew Bennetts, John Arbash Meinel, #375496)
- Fix a small bug with fetching revisions w/ ghosts into a new stacked branch. Not often triggered, because it required ghosts to be part of the fetched revisions, not in the stacked-on ancestry. (John Arbash Meinel)
- Fix status and commit to work with content filtered trees, addressing numerous bad bugs with line-ending support. (Ian Clatworthy, #362030)
- Fix problem of "directory not empty" when contending for a lock over sftp. (Martin Pool, #340352)
- Fix rule handling so that eol is optional, not mandatory. (Ian Clatworthy, #379370)
- Pushing a new stacked branch to a 1.15 smart server was broken due to a bug in the BzrDirFormat.initialize_ex smart verb. This is fixed in 1.16, but required changes to the network protocol, so the BzrDirFormat.initialize_ex verb has been removed and replaced with a corrected BzrDirFormat.initialize_ex_1.16 verb. 1.15 clients will still work with a 1.16 server as they will fallback to slower (and bug-free) methods. (Jonathan Lange, Robert Collins, Andrew Bennetts, #385132)
- Reconcile can now deal with text revisions that originated in revisions that are ghosts. (Jelmer Vernooij, #336749)
- Support cloning of branches with ghosts in the left hand side history. (Jelmer Vernooij, #248540)
- The bzr diff now catches OSError from osutils.rmtree and logs a helpful message to the trace file, unless the temp directory really was removed (which would be very strange). Since the diff operation has succeeded from the users perspective, no output is written to stderr or stdout. (Maritza Mendez, #363837)
- Translate errors received from a smart server in response to a BzrDirFormat.initialize or BzrDirFormat.initialize_ex request. This was causing tracebacks even for mundane errors like PermissionDenied. (Andrew Bennetts, #381329)
Documentation:
- Added directory structure and started translation of docs in Russian. (Alexey Shtokalo, Alexander Iljin, Alexander Belchenko, Dmitry Vasiliev, Volodymyr Kotulskyi)
API Changes:
- Added osutils.parent_directories(). (Ian Clatworthy)
- bzrlib.progress.ProgressBar, ChildProgress, DotsProgressBar, TTYProgressBar and child_progress are now deprecated; use ui_factory.nested_progress_bar instead. (Martin Pool)
- graph.StackedParentsProvider is now a public API, replacing graph._StackedParentsProvider. The api is now considered stable and ready for external users. (Gary van der Merwe)
- bzrlib.user_encoding is deprecated in favor of get_user_encoding. (Alexander Belchenko)
- TreeTransformBase no longer assumes that limbo is provided via disk. DiskTreeTransform now provides disk functionality. (Aaron Bentley)
Internals:
- Remove weave.py script for accessing internals of old weave-format repositories. (Martin Pool)
Testing:
- The number of cores is now correctly detected on OSX. (John Szakmeister)
- The number of cores is also detected on Solaris and win32. (Vincent Ladeuil)
- The number of cores is also detected on FreeBSD. (Matthew Fuller)
