Berkeley UPC (Unified Parallel C) 2.8.0
Unified Parallel C (UPC) is an extension of the C programming language designed for high performance computing on large-scale parallel machines. more>>
Unified Parallel C (UPC) is an extension of the C programming language designed for high performance computing on large-scale parallel machines. The language provides a uniform programming model for both shared and distributed memory hardware.
The programmer is presented with a single shared, partitioned address space, where variables may be directly read and written by any processor, but each variable is physically associated with a single processor. UPC uses a Single Program Multiple Data (SPMD) model of computation in which the amount of parallelism is fixed at program start-up time, typically with a single thread of execution per processor.
In order to express parallelism, UPC extends ISO C 99 with the following constructs:
- An explicitly parallel execution model
- A shared address space
- Synchronization primitives and a memory consistency model
- Memory management primitives
- Many more features

Handle remote shell command execution with Mac OS X, MS Windows, GNU/Linux based desktops or servers more>> Handle remote shell command execution with Mac OS X, MS Windows, GNU/Linux based desktops or servers
There are many years since a war has grown between operating systems such as Mac OS X, GNU/Linux distributions, MS Windows. In each camp, everyone is convinced of the superiority of their primary operating system, and they often publicly criticize concurrent operating systems.
KontrolPacks goal is not to choose a specific camp. Instead, its purpose is to allow specific operating systems to work with each other. The main functionality of this software is to provide an adaptable user interface that interacts directly with kernels of all the major operating systems by sending appropriate shell commands remotely.
For example, you can, from a GNU/Linux distribution, order to a hundred of MS Windows based computers to restart or to defrag their root partition. You can also get IP addresses and routing tables of a bunch of computers in order to manage an area network. Or you can, if you need to, execute batches and scripts simultaneously through the network.
KontrolPack is an efficient, cross-platform remote shell command executor. The projects objective is to improve system interoperability connecting remote computers (independently of operating systems running) and executing shell command across netwo
Users who are using this software on a major operating system will be able to perform administrative tasks remotely on multiple computers that run on different operating system without any technical issues.

SAGE 4.0.1
Creating a viable free open source alternative to Magma, Maple, Mathematica, and Matlab. more>> Creating a viable free open source alternative to Magma, Maple, Mathematica, and Matlab.
Sage is free open source math software that supports research and teaching in algebra, geometry, number theory, cryptography, and related areas. Both the Sage development model and the technology in Sage itself are distinguished by an extremely strong emphasis on openness, community, cooperation, and collaboration: we are building the car, not reinventing the wheel.
General and Advanced Pure and Applied Mathematics
Use SAGE for studying a huge range of mathematics, including algebra, calculus, elementary to very advanced number theory, cryptography, numerical computation, commutative algebra, group theory, combinatorics, graph theory, and exact linear algebra.
Use an Open Source Alternative
By using SAGE you help to support a viable open source alternative to Magma, Maple, Mathematica, and MATLAB. SAGE includes many high-quality open source math packages.
Use Most Mathematics Software from Within SAGE
SAGE makes it easy for you to use most mathematics software together. SAGE includes interfaces to Magma, Maple, Mathematica, MATLAB, and MuPAD, and the free programs Axiom, GAP, GP/PARI, Macaulay2, Maxima, Octave, and Singular.
Use a Standard Programming Language
You work with SAGE using the highly regarded scripting language Python instead of an obscure language designed for a particular mathematics program. You can write programs that combine serious mathematics with anything else.
Create Notebooks with your Web Browser
Use SAGE from your web browser, which connects either to a program running on your computer, or a program running elsewhere. With the SAGE notebook you can create embedded graphics, beautifully typeset mathematical expressions, add and delete input, and start up and interrupt multiple calculations.
Be Curious
SAGE provides you with easy access to documentation and source code. Type plot? for help on the plot command and plot?? to see the source code. If X is anything, type X.[tab key] to see all commands that apply to X.
Enhancements
Algebra:
- Division over integers (Robert Bradshaw) -- A much simpler and faster algorithm for the divisors function over integers. The new optimized code is faster than a similar integer divisor function in the version of PARI/GP thats bundled with Sage 3.2.1, as well as outperforming a similar integer divisor function found in the version of Magma that Sage 3.2.1 interfaces with.
- Finite field operations (John Palmieri) -- A few methods for finite field elements including additive order, p-th power, and p-th root where p is the characteristic of the field.
Basic arithmetic:
- Polynomials over a field (Burcin Erocal) -- Improving the user interface of polynomial classes.
- Polynomial square roots (John Palmieri, Carl Witty) -- A method to test whether a polynomial is square over the field it is defined. If the polynomial is square, then the method has the option of returning a square root.
Build:
- Improve sage -upgrade (William Stein, Michael Abshoff) -- The Sage upgrade command can now take an optional URL from which it will pull all spkgs, and this URL can be a Sage install. The upgrade command lists packages that will be upgraded before upgrading them, and autodownloads a new version of any spkg that hasnt successfully been installed before upgrading it.
- Problematic CPU flags (William Stein, Michael Abshoff) -- Binary distributions of Sage for Linux (e.g. Ubuntu) may not work properly once installed. The following CPU flags are known to prevent Sage from running properly: sse, 3d, mmx, pni, and cmov.
Calculus:
- Gamma and factorial functions (Mike Hansen, Burcin Erocal, Wilfried Huss) -- Symbolic gamma and factorial functions.
- Update to sympy-0.6.3 (Ondrej Certik) -- Update to the latest upstream of SymPy (sympy-0.6.3), which is a Python library for symbolic mathematics. For more information about SymPy, please visit http://code.google.com/p/sympy/.
- Numerical trigonometry (Robert Bradshaw) -- Optimized floating point evaluation of trigonometric functions such as sine and cosine. For example, numerical calculation of sine via _fast_float_ is now twice as fast as math.sin.
- Floating point calculation (Robert Bradshaw) -- Changing the parsing code for numerical computation to use RDF, which is a better reflection of the underlying precision. For calculus expressions involving real numbers, redundant trailing zeros are removed.
Coercion:
- Coercion API (Robert Bradshaw) -- Some simplification of the coercion interface.
Combinatorics:
- Coding theory (David Joyner) -- Several changes in linear_codes.py which should speed up (and in some cases do:-) some coding theory computations considerably. It adds interfaces to Cython and C functions of Robert Miller, CJ Tjhal, and Jeffery Leon. Speed up of minimum_distance (for codes over GF(2) and GF(3)), the spectrum (=weight_distribution), and permutation_automorphism_group are expected and in most cases achieved. (Also a new function is_permutation_equivalent was added, which interfaces with Robert Millers double coset partition refinement code.)
- Incidence structures and block designs (David Joyner) -- Beginning of an incidence structure class and an implementation of some basic block design algorithms. A few functions require GAPs Design package (which is included in gap_packages-4.4.10_6.spkg) but calling GAP or GAPs Design was only done when the corresponding Sage functionality was missing. Robert Millers recent code on computing the automorphism group of a non-linear binary code was used to implement the automorphism group of a block design.
Testing:
- Added only_optional doctest option (William Stein) -- Added a new option sage -t -only_optional=component that allows one to run only the optional doctests that depend on a given component. Thus instead of much of the optional functionality of Sage being broken, it will now be much easier to automatically test it.
Extundelete 0.0.7
Utility that can recover deleted files from an ext3 partition more>> Utility that can recover deleted files from an ext3 partition
extundelete is a utility that can recover deleted files from an ext3 partition. extundelete is based on the ext3grep program.
extundelete uses the information stored in the partitions journal to attempt to recover a file that has been deleted from the partition.
To use extundelete, you must know the name of the file (or the inode number) of the deleted file relative to the root of the partition.
There is no guarantee that the file will be able to be undeleted, so always try to have a good backup system in place, or at least put one in place after recovering your files!
Enhancements
- Reduced initialization time.
- Greatly improved
- restore-alls ability to link an inode with a file name.
- Added restore-directory option to restore files in a specific directory only.

safecopy 1.3
A free and open source tool for recovering data from damaged sources more>> A free and open source tool for recovering data from damaged sources
safecopy is an open source data recovery tool which tries to extract as much data as possible from a problematic (i.e. damaged sectors) source - like floppy drives, CDs, tape devices, harddisk partitions, ..., where other tools like dd would fail doe to I/O errors.
A main problem with damaged storage hardware is, that once you get an unrecoverable IO error further reading from the file / device often fails until the file has been closed and re-opened.
The normal copy tools like cat, cp or dd do not allow creation of an image file from a disk or CD-ROM once reading of a sector failed.
Safecopy tries to get as much data from the source as possible, even resorting to device specific low level operations if applicable.
Enhancements
- Safecopy has been internally redesigned to improve reliability and predictability of behavior.
- It now comes with a textual behavior specification and a self test suite, complete... with a glibc wrapper library to simulate IO errors on virtual files.
- Blocksize autodetection now also works in combination with low level device access. Blocksizes can now be specified as a percentage of the file size or as multiples of the hardware blocksize, making these options much easier to use.
- New option presets provide shortcuts for multi-stage data rescue with minimum commandline typing effort

The Sleuth Kit 3.0.1
Free and open source command-line file and volume system forensic analysis tools more>> Free and open source command-line file and volume system forensic analysis tools
The Sleuth Kit (previously known as TASK) is a collection of UNIX-based command line file and volume system forensic analysis tools.
The file system tools allow you to examine file systems of a suspect computer in a non-intrusive fashion. Because the tools do not rely on the operating system to process the file systems, deleted and hidden content is shown.
The volume system (media management) tools allow you to examine the layout of disks and other media. The Sleuth Kit supports DOS partitions, BSD partitions (disk labels), Mac partitions, Sun slices (Volume Table of Contents), and GPT disks.
With these tools, you can identify where partitions are located and extract them so that they can be analyzed with file system analysis tools.
When performing a complete analysis of a system, we all know that command line tools can become tedious. The Autopsy Forensic Browser is a graphical interface to the tools in The Sleuth Kit, which allows you to more easily conduct an investigation.
Autopsy provides case management, image integrity, keyword searching, and other automated operations.
The tools run on Mac OS X, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Linux, and Solaris and can analyze FAT, NTFS, UFS, EXT2FS, and EXT3FS.
NOTE: The Sleuth Kit is released under the Common Public and IBM Public Licenses.
Main features:
- Analyzes raw (i.e. dd), Expert Witness (i.e. EnCase) and AFF file system and disk images. (Sleuth Kit Informer #11)
- Supports the NTFS, FAT, UFS 1, UFS 2, EXT2FS, EXT3FS, and ISO 9660 file systems (even when the host operating system does not or has a different endian ordering).
- Tools can be run on a live UNIX system during Incident Response. These tools will show files that have been "hidden" by rootkits and will not modify the A-Time of files that are viewed. (Sleuth Kit Informer #13)
- List allocated and deleted ASCII and Unicode file names. (Sleuth Kit Informer #14 (FAT Recovery), #16 (NTFS Orphan Files))
- Display the details and contents of all NTFS attributes (including all Alternate Data Streams).
- Display file system and meta-data structure details.
- Create time lines of file activity, which can be imported into a spread sheet to create graphs and reports. (Sleuth Kit Informer #5)
- Lookup file hashes in a hash database, such as the NIST NSRL, Hash Keeper, and custom databases that have been created with the md5sum tool. (Sleuth Kit Informer #6, Sleuth Kit Informer #7)
- Organize files based on their type (for example all executables, jpegs, and documents are separated). Pages of thumbnails can be made of graphic images for quick analysis. (Sleuth Kit Informer #3, #4, #5)
