Rumpus 6.1.2
Rumpus is such an essential and useful tool when you want to allow people from within your office or across the Internet to send, receive, and manage files on a central Mac. more>>
Rumpus 6.1.2 is such an essential and useful tool when you want to allow people from within your office or across the Internet to send, receive, and manage files on a central Mac.
Whether you need to accept graphics files from remote locations, manage content on a Web server, or coordinate a work group with a single file server that everyone can access, Rumpus is the answer. Rumpus FTP can handle virtually any Internet file transfer task by working with standard FTP and Web clients on any platform, and do it with remarkable ease.
Major Benefits:
- Improve Your Customer Service
- When people need to send you a big file, or you need to share one with a client, it should be fast, professional and easy. Rumpus does away with the hassles of e-mail attachments and snail-mailing CDs, making it easier for your customers to do business with you.
- Streamline Your Workflow
- When a file comes in, Rumpus can notify the right people in your company, depending on who sent it. Notification is instantaneous, and since the file is sent directly to your network, it's right there, ready for you to work with.
- Save Your Money
- With Rumpus, there are no recurring ISP fees outside of your standard Internet connection cost. And since files are transferred directly between your customers and you, even your Internet bandwidth is used as efficiently as possible.
- Brand Your Business
- Because the Rumpus interface is fully customizable, it can easily be integrated into your existing Web site. And your clients can bookmark your file transfer service, putting you just a click away.
- Look Like A Pro
- Ever been asked for your FTP address? People that deal with large file transfers on a regular basis are used to dealing with FTP. Rumpus is a standards-compliant, full-featured FTP server, so when someone asks if they can "FTP you a file", just give them the address of your server.
- Web File Management
- The most popular FTP clients are Web browsers. They are also, almost universally, the worst FTP clients. Web browser FTP problems range from simply displaying information poorly to flat-out not supporting basic features like file upload. Rumpus offers a unique solution to this problem through the Web File Manager, which puts an attractive HTML interface on your FTP server. In reality, Rumpus includes a built-in Web server that delivers most of the same features of FTP using a simple, customizable HTTP interface. You just won't find the Web File Manager, or anything like it, in OS X's FTP server (or any other FTP server, for that matter).
- Support
- When you have a problem with your server(s), how important is it that you get answers? Maxum offers free, unlimited technical support. Send an e-mail to Maxum about Rumpus, and you will get a solid answer from a qualified person, usually in a matter of hours (or less).
- Secure And Simple User Administration
- With Rumpus, you create and maintain user accounts in a single, easy to use window, and those users gain access to the server only through Rumpus. So not only is Rumpus user management a snap, but you can rest assured that users won't gain access to unexpected services running on your Mac.
- Advanced Features: The FTP implementation in OS X is solid, but basic. Rumpus, on the other hand, is every bit as stable and reliable, but offers advanced features you just won't find in OS X. Here are a few (but there are many more).
- Upload Notices - Get an e-mail when selected users send you a file.
- RumpusStat Monitoring Widget - Check the status of your server, and recent file activity, from your own desktop Mac dashboard.
- Real-time Activity Reporting - See who is logged on, and what they are doing, at a glance.
- Logging - Rumpus maintains 4 distinct log files to let you see who is using your server, and how. And logs can be rolled automatically.
- More Security - Rumpus offers still more security features, like automatic hacker detection and blocking, alias recognition and disabling, and more.
- Web-Based User Administration - You can create users from anywhere on the 'net via a Web browser, and your users can rotate their own passwords with a simple Web interface.
- Support For Private LANs - Rumpus not only works great inside of private networks with "port forwarding" routers, but include simple instructions on how to configure Rumpus and your network.
- Full User Documentation - Look at the User's Guide and Help articles that come with Rumpus, then look at the documentation you get with OS X FTP...
- MacBinary Support
- Put simply, Rumpus fully supports the MacBinary protocol and OS X FTP does not. This means that Mac files transferred to your FTP server will remain Mac files if you use Rumpus (and FTP clients like Fetch, Interarchy, Transmit, etc.), but not if you use OS X FTP. Files transferred without MacBinary lose their Finder information and resource forks, an inconvenience at best, and resulting in corrupt files at worst.
Enhancements:
- The Active Users window now correctly defaults to the first tab.
- The "Insert Token" function on AppleScript and Shell Script notices now always works correctly.
- The thumbnail generation status window now opens properly.
- Rumpus now installs and runs properly on case-sensitive file systems.
- Corrected a bug which could cause compatibility issues with older WFM template sets.
- Folders marked for thumbnail display can now be deleted as usual when empty. (The thumbnail cache folder caused the folder to be considered not empty.)
- Corrected modal dialog operation on the Web-based user management pages in the Boxes appearance.
- Added "UTF8" to the FTP "features" list to improve character encoding compatibility with clients that recognize it.
- Added validity check to "Create Domain" function to prevent invalid domain creation.
- Added "GMTOffsetHours" config file directive which allows the local time zone to be over-ridden with a specific time offset.
- The WFM is now correctly enabled when Web services are turned on after the Setup Assistant.
- Corrected 2 potential string processing buffer overrun problems.
Requirements:
- Rumpus 6 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later. Any Mac OS X system capable of running OS X 10.4 will generally make a fine Rumpus file server, since Rumpus' RAM and CPU requirements are minimal. Typical DSL, T1, cable modem, and even faster Internet connections will normally be the limiting factor in file transfer performance, not the server itself. You should, of course, be sure to have adequate disk space available on the server to store the content that will be uploaded and downloaded to and from the server.
- Both the Rumpus application and server daemon are provided as Universal Binary executables, and run natively on PowerPC and Intel based Macs.
Rumpus is, quite simply, the easiest FTP server on the planet to set up and administer. From the setup assistant that fully prepares the server to accept users to the logically designed server managementLicense:update/patch

SyncPlaces 3.4.1
This tool allows you to synchronize your bookmarks between different browsers. more>>
SyncPlaces 3.4.1 is a great addition to your computer as it will enhance your browser. It is actually a Firefox add-on that allows you to synchronise your bookmarks and passwords between different installations of Firefox (e.g. a browser at Home and another at Work).
It only works with Firefox v3 and above (but is compatible with older bookmark extensions). The synchronize feature requires your own Web or FTP server, which is used to store the bookmarks centrally, but there are a number of free servers you can safely use (see the Support section for details of at least one of these).
Using your own server means you get to keep you bookmarks private rather than storing them on a third party server who may analyse, probe and profile you, sell that data to others, or use it for their own nefarious purposes.
Major Features:
- SyncPlaces also takes a backup of your current bookmarks before overwriting them with what is on the shared server. So you can restore this backup if it all goes wrong and you can also manually take your own backup at any time.
- Bookmarks are typically stored in JSON format as this is ideal for the storage of all the bookmark information from the new Firefox Places system (e.g. tags, queries, and annotations).
- You can also export/import or send/receive your bookmarks in XBEL format. XBEL is great for sharing bookmarks with other browsers or older versions of Firefox, or transforming with XSL to style your bookmarks so you can access them from any browser without installing the SyncPlaces extension.
- Both passwords and the list of password exceptions may also be synchronised, and are automatically encrypted before sending to maintain privacy.
- Options available include auto-send and receive whenever local bookmarks change and/or at regular intervals and/or a set time and/or at Firefox startup/shutdown.
Enhancements:
- Fixed: When switching between profiles synchronising on different folders the selected folder was not being changed, although the name displayed was.
Requirements:
- Mozilla Firefox
