Databrid is a tool designed for browsing, retrieval and manipulation tool designed for the novice to the expert user. Databrid works on an Oracle Database (versions 8 and above although not all functionality in the Browser is available for the lower versions).
The core functionality of Databrid revolves around the tabbed areas within the Databrid application. The four main tabs in the main screen of Databrid are: SQL Editor, Browser, File and Jobs.
SQL Editor
The SQL Editor tab allows you to write and run SQL and PLSQL.
The tab provides the ability to use one of more syntax highlighting editors with automatic case adjustment for keywords. Provided with each editor is a table for displaying SQL query results and a text output area to display DBMS_Output output. Jobs can be run in the background allowing for the execution of multiple statements at any given time.
Browser
The Browser tab allows the you to browse various parts of the database schema.
The browsing is done via a particular schema user and displays information on tables, views, sequences etc.
Features include the generation of database creation statements for tables, views etc, browsing table or view data, truncating tables, etc.
File
The File tab allows you work with a CSV (comma delimited text file) and the database without having to load the CSV into the database.
This tab has two areas that functionality:
CSV Update and Database Update. CSV Update allows you to add additional columns to a CSV using a Select statement, including binding CSV column values to the Select statement.
Database Update allows you to update the database using insert, updates, deletes or PLSql by binding the CSV column values into your statement.
Jobs
This tab allows you to view which jobs (started from the SQL Editor and File tabs) are
currently running or have finished. Jobs that are running can also be stopped.
Enhancements:
- Connections to MySql may not work correctly if the Oracle drivers are not in the include path. This may affect some versions of the Oracle drivers as well.
- Schema browser not working for Oracle if the user had select on all tables but no access to the dba views. Thanks to Mike Taylor in helping to fix this issue.

IFRIT is a powerful tool that can be used to visualize 3-dimensional data sets.
IFRIT is written in C++ and is based on two state-of-the-art toolkits: the Visualization ToolKit (VTK) and a GUI toolkit QT.
IFRIT has its origins (and hence name) in a specialized utility designed to visualize ionization fronts in cosmological numerical simulations. But IFRIT has outgrown its origins and now can visualize general data sets as well. Philosophy behind IFRIT IFRIT is similar in its capabilities to the commercially available products like Amira or AVS, but is based on a different philosophy.
Most of the commercial products allow you to construct the pipeline of your visualization process. The pipeline model gives you a lot of flexibility, but this flexibility comes at a price of having to construct a pipeline even for simple visualizations.
IFRIT, instead, limits your flexibility somewhat by giving you only a fixed set of widget controls, but then you can accomplish very complicated visualizations with IFRIT with only a few mouse clicks. In order to give you a large choice of possibilities in a manageable way, IFRIT uses the hierarchy of tab widgets.
In many respects the hierarchy is similar to the directory hierarchy on the hard disk. It offers an advantage of being able to switch between different widget pages in a few mouse clicks (just like between different directories in a file manager).
Another important feature of IFRIT that distinguishes it from most other visualization tools is that it has highly developed support for displaying particles. Particles are rarely used in industry, but are very common in science.

EdGCM permits teachers and students to explore the fundamentals of climate science utilizing tools identical to those used in major climate research programs.
Many simple climate experiments are possible (e.g. How does the sun warm the planet?), but, it is also possible to conduct in-depth investigations of current events, in near real-time, as they are being studied by climate scientists.
EdGCM comes with some pre-prepared scenarios for investigating a variety of interesting climate issues (global warming, ice ages), but teachers can, also, easily construct their own scenarios to satisfy curricular requirements.
EdGCM easily scales for use at levels from middle school to graduate school, making it a unique tool for linking research to the classroom.
Our future plans involve the creation of the EdGCM Cooperative, a network of researchers and educators actively collaborating on climate research projects.
