Add-on Compatibility Reporter is a helpful extension which lets Mozilla make sure your favorite add-ons get updated for upcoming Firefox releases. more>>

Add-on Compatibility Reporter 0.1 is a helpful extension which lets Mozilla make sure your favorite add-ons get updated for upcoming Firefox releases. Using it to report whether they still work or are having some issues with alpha and beta releases.

After installing the Add-on Compatibility Reporter, your incompatible extensions will become enabled for you to test whether they still work with the version of Firefox or Thunderbird that you're using. If you notice that one of your add-ons doesn't seem to be working the same way it did in previous versions of the application, just open the Add-ons Manager and click Compatibility next to that add-on to send a report to Mozilla.

Even if your add-ons all work fine, if they're marked incompatible, please let the producer know that they work fine by submitting a success report so producer can encourage the add-on developer to update their compatibility information.

The producer will collect all of the reports and let add-on developers know what users are having problems with, or if their add-ons seem to work just fine in future versions of the product.

If you encounter problems and want to disable your incompatible add-ons again, uninstalling the Add-on Compatibility Reporter should revert to your previous compatibility checking settings.

X-Plane 9.40 RC-3

X-Plane 9.40 RC-3

X-Plane is a simple yet powerful general-aviation flight sim. more>>

X-Plane 9.40 RC-3 is a simple yet powerful general-aviation flight sim. With hardware-accelerated texture-mapped graphics, dynamic speech synthesis, full-planet terrain-mapped scenery, helicopters, and the widest range of airplanes available in flight simulation, X-Plane will keep your eyes popping out for hours.

Major Features:

  1. Meet X-Plane.
    • X-Plane is the world's most comprehensive and powerful flight simulator for personal computers. With the most realistic flight model available for home users, X-Plane is not just a game--it is an engineering tool that can be (and is) used to predict the flight characteristics of nearly any aircraft with incredible accuracy.
    • The most realistic is also the most accessible: The same engine used to drive the FAA-certified simulator is available on your desktop PC, whether it's running Windows, Mac OS, or Linux.
    • The simulator of choice for industry leaders: Take a closer look at X-Plane and learn what companies like NASA, Boeing, Cessna, and Van's Aircraft, and Carter Aviation already know.
  2. Inside X-Plane.
    • Real-time flight physics: X-Plane doesn't just regurgitate how an airplane's designer thinks a plane will fly-it calculates for itself the lift, drag, and moment on every surface of the plane individually at every point in time. The result is a flight model more realistic than anything else out there.
    • The key is blade element breakdown: X-Plane reads in the geometric shape of any aircraft and then figures out how that aircraft will fly. It does this by an engineering process called "blade element theory," which involves breaking the aircraft down into many small elements and then finding the forces acting on each little element many times per second.
  3. Extending X-Plane.
    • Choose from thousands of add-ons: The X-Plane community is huge, and the X-Plane simulator is incredibly flexible. Together, they make a great team. There are thousands of free aircraft available for download on the web, and thousands of free plug-ins and custom scenery packages-all created by X-Plane users.
    • With over 750,000 copies sold, you're sure to find X-Plane users interested in the same aircraft you are: From minutely detailed scenery to painstakingly created aircraft, X-Plane users have donated many, many hours to enhancing the community. Click here to get more details.
    • Also check out the links page: The X-World page has links to user groups, email lists, tutorials, virtual airlines and more.

Enhancements:

  • Plane-Maker: It is now possible to enter negative generator and battery current redlines and the like. This could be useful for some planes.
  • Plane-Maker: You now enter the BETA pitch of prop. This is the prop pitch that you see when the prop is in beta mode, which turboprops often have, and this will happen when you hit the . key to go into reverse, but have not yet advanced the throttle to really hit the reverse. A number around -10 or so should work pretty well for most planes.

Requirements:

  • Mac OS X version 10.4 or later
  • A 2 GHz processor
  • 1.0 GB RAM (physical memory)
  • 64 MB VRAM (video memory on your video card)
  • 10 GB of hard drive space

MenuMeters 1.4b1

MenuMeters 1.4b1

MenuMeters is a useful tool designed as a set of CPU, memory, disk, and network monitoring tools for MacOS X. more>>

MenuMeters 1.4b1 is a useful tool designed as a set of CPU, memory, disk, and network monitoring tools for MacOS X.

Although there are numerous other programs which do the same thing, none had quite the feature set I was looking for. Most were windows that sat in a corner or on the desktop, which are inevitably obscured by document windows on a PowerBook's small screen. Those monitors which used the menubar mostly used the NSStatusItem API, which has the annoying tendency to totally reorder my menubar on every login.

The MenuMeters monitors are true SystemUIServer plugins (also known as Menu Extras). This means they can be reordered using command-drag and remember their positions in the menubar across logins and restarts. MenuMeters is open source freeware released under the GNU General Public License (GPL).

Major Features:

  1. The CPU Meter can display system load both as a total percentage, or broken out as user and system time. It can also graph user and system load and display the load as a "thermometer". The menu for the CPU Meter contains several pieces of information I like to have a single click away (uptime, load average, open Activity Monitor.app, open Console.app).
  2. The Disk Activity Meter displays disk activity to local disks on the system (anything that is a IOKit BlockStorage driver). It is hotplug aware, and will show activity on FireWire and USB disks as they are mounted. The Disk Meter menu shows volume space details for local drives (it does not display mounted network volumes for speed reasons).
  3. The Memory Meter can display current memory usage as either a pie chart, thermometer, history graph, or as used/free totals. The Memory Meter menu shows a breakdown of current memory usage and VM statistics. The Memory Meter can optionally display a paging indicator light.
  4. The Net Meter can display network throughput as arrows, bytes per second, and/or as a graph. Both the arrows and the graph are scaled using a user-selected scaling factor and calculation. Scaling can be done on the basis of actual link speed reported by the network interface or peak traffic and can use one of several scaling calculations. The Net Meter menu shows current interfaces and their status. Interface information is gathered from the SystemConfiguraton framework and thus is Mac OS X network location aware

Enhancements:

  • Snow Leopard compatible Universal Binary (ppc, i386, x86_64).
  • Includes MenuCracker 2.x for Snow Leopard and for better long-term compatibility with other menubar add-ons.
  • Hide more inactive statistics on inactive network interfaces.
  • Simplified Intel CPU naming ("Intel" not 80486).
  • Support for IPv6 addresses in the network menu, based on patches from Smith Kennedy.
  • Major code cleanup, fixing a number of obscure bugs and probably introducing some more.
  • Changes to various menubar displays and text for readability and general cleanup. Removed various tweaky options (like disabling antialiasing) that haven't been relevant since very early OS X and aren't worth the maintenance cost.
  • Remove CPU menu option for 'nice' color, hasn't worked since Apple API changed.
  • Removed CPU menu thermal register statistic, hasn't worked since G3.
  • Reordered memory pie chart to place wired at the start of the graph.
  • Fixed NSNumberFormatter overflow for memory statistics.
  • Fix preference reset when opening preference pane on Leopard and later.
  • Fix support for the PowerMate regardless of driver version.
  • Fix Connect and Disconnect commands for VPN and other complex interfaces controlled by the PPP subsystem.
  • Show disk space for mounted NTFS volumes.
  • Fix slow disk unmount/eject on Tiger.
  • CPU percent user/system split display includes nice'd process. This matches current implementations of 'top'.
  • Simplified Chinese localization, thanks to Tintin.

Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or later
  • PowerPC or Intel based Macintosh (Universal Binary).

VDMX b0.7.4.0

VDMX b0.7.4.0

VDMX5 is a powerful tool that is designed to meet the demands of realtime video performance. more>>

VDMX b0.7.4.0 is a powerful tool that is designed to meet the demands of realtime video performance.

Built around a robust data processing architecture it was designed to be used with whatever hardware- or software- you've got available. VDMX is a software based, media processing environment that lets you achieve stunning effects in real time. By linking together and controlling VDMX modules, you build your own virtual video studio, which is equally adept at event production, post production and motion design.

Following in the footsteps of audio software trends, video software and hardware are now fast enough to compete with expensive hardware boxes for doing real-time SD and HD mixing and FX processing. Using your Macintosh, you can achieve astonishing results that are infinitely more flexible than dedicated hardware, for a fraction of the cost. VDMX not only saves you money on hardware, but also saves time. Because of its real time architecture and a control design which encourages creative exploration, you can count on VDMX to get better results faster than working with timelines.

Major Features:

  1. Visual Effects and Motion Graphics
    • Taking advantage of Apple's CoreImage technology, VDMX5 leverages the latent processing power of your GPU, performing accurate and lightning-fast composition and rendering of visual effects in realtime at broadcast and HD quality. VDMX5 is also fully compatible with Quartz Composer, Apple's freely-available groundbreaking motion graphics visual development environment. Any Quartz Composer patch can be opened and played back in VDMX5, which provides an interface for controlling and interacting extensively with the loaded patch, putting the power of Quartz 2d, CoreImage, and OpenGL at your fingertips.
  2. Videoinstrumentalism
    • The rendering engine isn't all that's realtime- VDMX's workflow is designed to let you treat your studio like an instrument. Plug in a piece of midi hardware and use it to trigger clips, scratch video, fade between layers, or adjust the parameters of an effect. It's all instantaneous- no more keyframes, constant tweaking of values, or long waits for things to render. VDMX frees you to explore ideas quickly, taking you in directions you may never have thought of, and what you see is always what you get. The difference is tangible: from the moment you launch it the focus is on creating smooth, responsive video- not a timeline.
  3. Audio/Visual Performance
    • Whether you are a musician looking to add video to your set, or a VJ working with a different DJ every night, VDMX5 makes bridging the worlds of audio and video easier than ever. Leveraging the power of MIDI, your favorite audio performance and sequencing software can remotely control VDMX without ever having to switch applications mid-show. Using the built-in audio analysis plugin, any effect or control in VDMX becomes audio reactive with the click of a mouse.
  4. Modular Architecture
    • VDMX is just where it starts- it's merely the shell. By loading plugins from an ever-expanding list of available add-ons, you can define not only the rendering pipeline, but your interface for interacting with your video. Any setup can be saved and instantly restored, making it possible to switch between sets on the fly. VDMX isn't just a video processing application; it lets you put together the video application you need for the job instead of being tied to a single fixed interface.

Requirements:

  • 1GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5 or Intel Core processor
  • MacOS X 10.5.0 or later
  • QuickTime 7.0.4 or later
  • 512MB or more of RAM
  • CoreImage capable AGP, PCI Express or Intel graphics processor with at least 64MB of video memory and OpenGL hardware acceleratio.

Users can fail instruments, engines, flight controls, control cables, antennae, landing gear, or any of dozens of other systems at any moment.
  8. While on its own X-Plane represents the world's most comprehensive flight simulator, the installation DVD also comes with Plane-Maker (allowing users to create custom aircraft or modify existing designs), Airfoil-Maker (allowing users to create airfoil performance profiles), and Weather-Briefer (to give users a weather briefing before the flight when using real weather conditions downloaded from the Internet).
  9. X-Plane is extremely customizable, allowing users to easily create textures, sounds, and instrument panels for their own airplane designs or for the planes included with the sim.
  10. X-Plane's accuracy (in flight model), scope (in aircraft and terrain coverage), versatility (in aircraft type and weather conditions), add-on programs (in aircraft and scenery editors), customizability, downloadable aircraft, and downloadable scenery make it the ultimate flight simulation experience for Macintosh, Windows, and Linux platforms.

Xclear 1.1

Xclear 1.1

Xclear is a Mozilla add-on that helps you easily clear any unwanted content in the URL or search filed of your browser more>>

Xclear 1.1 is a Mozilla add-on that helps you easily clear any unwanted content in the URL or search filed of your browser. It places an X-icon at the end of the url and search field to clear these fields.

This is mostly useful for X-windows users (Linux, etc.), which don't want their clipboards to be erased when marking the text in the field to delete it. There are several other add-ons that do this, but this one is really lightweight and doesn't need any toolbar buttons. The functionality is more similar like the ones found in Safari and Konqueror.

The look and visibility of the icons can be customized through the userChrome.css file.

To disable the icon in the url field, put this into your userChrome.css:

#urlbar * .xclear {display: none !important;}

To disable the icon in the search bar, put this into your userChrome.css:
.searchbar-textbox * .xclear {display: none !important;}

To use the old, more Gnome-like X icon, put this into your userChrome.css:
.xclear {list-style-image: url("chrome://xclear/skin/clear.png") !important;}

Enhancements:

  • Icons do not show now when field is empty
  • New Safari-like standard icon
  • Icon visibility and style customizable by userChrome.css

The producer has personally tested version 2.1.x of this add-on only under Windows 2000 and XP Pro. Several users have informed me that the 1.x and 2.x versions also work on some linux distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, etc) and some MAC OS. So this version may work on those platforms as well - please let me know what you find. I have tested this add-on using the following Thunderbird email account types: pop3, IMAP, and those employing the webmail add-on.
  2. RATIONALE:
    • Having recently switched from the Mozilla Suite to Firefox/Thunderbird, I missed some aspects of the integration between browser and email. I could not find an existing add-on to show a prominent visual indicator that new mail is ready (even if not automatically downloaded).
    • Thunderbird shows a popup message when mail is ready. But the popup may be shown and not seen. I also auto-hide my windows task bar so the tray icon is not always visible. Also, since I do not automatically download new messages, I am not always aware that new mail is waiting to be downloaded.
  3. DETAILS:
    • After a default installation, a new icon is added on the right side of the status bar in Thunderbird and supported clients. Icon tool tips are provided. In Firefox and Sunbird, you may left-click the icon to start/show the Thunderbird. Note: use of the left click feature only makes sense if both Firefox/Sunbird and Thunderbird are meant to be used on the same computer (see the thunderbirdbiff.hostname option below). In all applications, a right-click of the icon will display the version of this add-on.
    • If the client application is started prior to starting Thunderbird, this add-on will show an unplugged cable icon. When Thunderbird is running, you should see either a plain mail icon or a mail icon with a flashing green arrow (new mail). In case of error, an "X" icon is shown.
  4. OPTIONS:
The following options/preferences can be specified via this add-on's Options panel (or via the application's Config Editor):
    • Thunderbirdbiff.hostname - each client will look for a Thunderbird server on the computer with the name specified in this string option. By default the value is "localhost", the same machine on which the client application runs. The name/IP address of a reachable, remote computer may be specified if the client application is running on a machine other than the one which runs Thunderbird. It is a good idea to try to ping the hostname you plan to specify to be sure the computer is "reachable". This option is used only by client installations. If specified in Thunderbird, it is ignored.
    • Thunderbirdbiff.port - all clients and the Thunderbird server MUST agree on the TCP/IP port via which communication will occur. By default this add-on uses the TCP/IP port 25501. You may change this integer option to a value greater than 1023 if you find the default port setting blocked or otherwise in use.
    • Thunderbirdbiff.intervalSeconds - each client installation will poll the Thunderbird server to check for the presence of new mail at an interval specified by this integer option. 10 seconds is the default and the minimum value permitted. This option is used only by client installations. If specified in Thunderbird, it is ignored.
    • Thunderbirdbiff.useAnimation - by default, this add-on uses an animated gif to yield a "flashing arrow" effect when new mail arrives. It is possible that animated gifs may be blocked or otherwise disabled on your computer and prevent the new mail icon from being displayed properly. By toggling the default setting of this boolean option from "true" to "false", the animated gif will be replaced with a static image.
    • Thunderbirdbiff.position - by default, this add-on will place its icon on the right of the application's status bar. Toggling this string option's value from "right" to "left" will allow you to change the icon's position. Unfortunately, different add-ons contend for these highly desired locations on the status bar and there seems to be no way to warranty that your choice will be strictly respected after all add-ons have been loaded.
    • Thunderbirdbiff.startupEmail - this client-side boolean option (false by default) will, if enabled, cause the add-on to attempt to automatically start the default email tool (hopefully Thunderbird) on the local computer. If the email tool is already started, it should be shown. This option only makes if "thunderbird.hostname" is set to point at the local system.
    • Thunderbirdbiff.emailPath - this client-side string (empty by default) specifies the fully qualified path to your Thunderbird executable. On Mac, this should be your Thunderbird.app bundle. Note: a restart of the application is NOT required when changing the above option settings. New option settings take effect immediately.
    • Thunderbirdbiff.logToFile - by default, this option is "false" and no verbose logging is sent to a file as the number and size of these files can grow large rapidly. So this option should be enabled only for debugging purposes. By toggling this boolean option to "true", detailed logs will be created. Changes to this option require a restart of the application. The add-on's Options panel displays the directory where log files will be stored. Log file names begin with thunderbirdbiff and are suffixed with the Mozilla application name (firefox, sunbird, thunderbird). A new log file is created each time an application is started.
  5. OTHER:
    • Because this add-on makes use of TCP/IP sockets for communication, problems can arise if your firewall is not properly configured. If you have installed this add-on in Thunderbird and Thunderbird is running but your client installation shows only the unplugged cable icon, then be sure to check your firewall settings (after first confirming that the thunderbirdbiff.port and thunderbirdbiff.hostname options are properly set).
    • Some Thunderbird settings can affect the behavior of this add-on:
      • Tools|Account Settings|Server Settings|Check for new messages every X minutes MUST be enabled. This add-on's results are triggered by the same mechanism through which the built-in Thunderbird biff is triggered. However, the built-in Thunderbird biff does not need to be enabled for this add-on to function. But if Thunderbird is not set to check for new messages on at least one account, do not expect to see much value in this add-on.
      • Only IMAP and POP3 accounts are checked for new mail arrival. RSS and Newsgroup accounts are ignored.
