Netinfo Database Loader 1.1 is created to be a tiny yet effective Filemaker pro database which assists you to import information in your local or shared Netinfo databases. It works by reformating and dumping all the entries in "raw format" that is copied in the Clipboard. Create a plain Textedit file, paste the dump in it, save it as UTF-8, then go back to the database to finish importation with AppleScript and the Terminal.

It is particularly well suited to create entries to use with OpenLDAP and Open directory in Mac OS X Server 10.2 so that you can create a shared LDAP directory to be exploited from Address Book, Entourage, or any other LDAP client.

MountNFS 0.2

MountNFS 0.2

MountNFS - Startup Item mounts NFS filesystems listed in /etc/fstab more>>
On most Unix-based operating systems, filesystems to be mounted at system startup are listed in the /etc/fstab file. The format of this file is described in the fstab(5) man page.

While Mac OS X supports /etc/fstab, the preferred method on Mac OS X for specifying filesystems to be mounted at startup is NefInfo. Whilst Mac OS X will automatically mount all filesystems listed in NetInfo and UFS and HFS filesystems listed in /etc/fstab at startup, it will ignore the lines in /etc/fstab referring to NFS filesystems, not mounting them, despite the fact that the mount_nfs(8) man page states otherwise.

MountNFS is a little startup item which restores the missing functionality. Once this item is installed, NFS filesystems listed in /etc/fstab will be automatically mounted at system startup.

NetBoot Filter Manager 1.0

NetBoot Filter Manager 1.0

NetBoot Filter Manager - Import a list of return-delimited MAC addresses into your NetInfo database more>>
While the Server Admin application allows you to enable NetBoot filtering and manipulate the list of allowed or denied MAC addresses, it does not offer a way to import, en masse, a list of MAC addresses. It also does not indicate how many machines are in the list, which could be nice if youre trying to track license usage.

For those managing small lists of machines, this is probably no big deal. But for people that manage very large lists of machines (50+), a tool that allows better list manipulation is a must. Thats where NetBoot Filter Manager (NFM) comes in.

NFM allows you to import a list of return-delimited MAC addresses into your NetInfo database for use with NetBoot filtering. NFM also allows you to set a limit on the number of MAC addresses that can be added to the database by NFM. This could be handy if, say, you had just purchased 1500 units of the OS through Apples Apple Maintenance Program. By limiting what machines can boot to your NetBoot server, you can "stay honest" about how many machines are permitted to install the OS.

NIM Repair 1.0

NIM Repair - Repair NetInfo permissions more>>
NIM Repair was designed for one purpose: to rectify situations where attempting to save changes made to NetInfo via NetInfo Manger results in the error "NetInfo write failed! (Operation succeeded)".

NIM Repair resets the file permissions back to the default setting and reactivates full functionality.

Any changes that were made are lost and NetInfo reverts back to the previous state. The problem occurs when the permissions for NetInfo Manager, located inside the NetInfo Manager.app package, are altered.

Unlockupd 1.0b1

Unlockupd 1.0b1

Unlockupd - Works around a bug in lookupd more>>
Unlockupd works around a bug in lookupd, a system service which is required for proper operation of Mac OS X. If lookupd fails, the system quickly becomes unusable. Unlockupd periodically checks lookupds status and forces it to restart should it fail.

WARNING: Although Unlockupd has undergone a significant amount of testing with no reported problems, this software should still be considered beta-quality. It is only being made available now since the cat snuck out of the bag on the darwin-dev mailing list.

Technical Details - Lookupd is the lookup and caching daemon responsible for handling NetInfo, DNS, and other such requests. Applications typically do not access lookupd directly, but rather, use standardized library functions (such as gethostbyname for DNS) which access lookupd on the applications behalf.

Lookupd has a bug (rdar://3632865) in its cache cleanup code that causes it to randomly crash. CrashReporter, the system crash log agent, does not properly handle lookupd crashes and as a result, when lookupd crashes, the process is not terminated. Since lookupd has not terminated, mach_init does not respawn lookupd. From this point, any application that attempts to access lookupd either directly or indirectly, will hang.

Once lookupd stops responding it becomes difficult but not impossible to recover the system to a usable state. One technique which works but is not recommended (for obvious reasons), is to leave a root shell running and `killall -9 lookupd` when it becomes obvious that lookupd has died (sudo does not work, since it requires lookupds services, as does opening a new terminal window).

How unlockupd works - Unlockupd is a small daemon which periodically polls lookupd. If it detects that lookupd is not responding, it makes a note in the system log and forces lookupd to terminate.

User Manager 0.2.3

User Manager 0.2.3

User Manager is a supplement to the Accounts pane in the Mac OS X System Preferences, designed for use with small home networks more>>
User Manager is a supplement to the Accounts pane in the Mac OS X System Preferences, designed for use with small home networks. User Manager is targeted at power users who desire full control over user and group attributes, without the need to resort to using the NetInfo Manager.
With it, you can create, edit, or delete users and groups in any Open Directory node (e.g. a NetInfo domain). The interface allows you to edit nearly all record attributes, including UID, GID, login shell, and home directory. You will also be able to manage Unix group memberships using its drag-and-drop user- and group-centric interfaces.
User Manager is primarily intended for use with small home networks, where the enterprise-grade strength of Mac OS X Server is not needed. It is not intended to handle thousands of users or replace the Server Manager application found in Mac OS X Server.
Specifically, it does not support editing managed client (MCX) attributes, a la the Limitations tab in the Accounts system preference pane, as Apple does not publish these APIs.
Enhancements:
New Features
- Universal binary. Note: This has not yet been tested on Intel. Please report any ikssues you find.
- Updated Help for proper display on OS X 10.4.
- Minor updates to Help content.
- Added initial support for undo. Note: This is work in progress and may not work as expected in all cases.
Unimplemented Features
- Same as version 0.2.0.
Known Issues
- Same as version 0.2.2, except where noted.
- Undo support is not fully implemented.
- Requires OS X 10.4. Use on OS X 10.3 is not supported. For OS X 10.3, use version 0.2.2.

wake 1.0

wake 1.0

wake is designed as a high quality and effective tool that allows for sending Wake on LAN frames to hosts on a local Ethernet network. more>>

wake 1.0 is designed as a high quality and effective tool that allows for sending Wake on LAN frames to hosts on a local Ethernet network. This package will install the wake command in /usr/sbin and a manual page in section 8 of the online manual.

Usage of the command is as follows: $ sudo wake iface lladdr

where iface is the local Ethernet interface, e.g. en0, on which to send the WoL frame and lladdr is the 6-byte Ethernet address or the symbolic name of the machine to wake up (6 colon separated bytes).

To use symbolic names instead of Ethernet addresses, create the Ethernets database in Netinfo and add the entries as follows:

$ sudo dscl . -create /Ethernets
$ sudo dscl . -create /Ethernets/host
$ sudo dscl . -append /Ethernets/host ENetAddress lladdr
$ sudo wake iface host
