MegaHAL/Mac 9.0.3 is a conversation simulator created by Jason Hutchens for the 1998 Loebner AI Contest, which enables you to talk to a psychotic AI. Unlike traditional conversation simulators (see Eliza), MegaHAL learns from what users tell it, and can build up a vocabulary on its own.
MegaHAL can also learn other languages, and it can speak to you with any voice you have installed on your Mac. MegaHAL's dialogue can invoke a whole range of emotions; you can never predict what it's going to tell you!
This is the same version of MegaHAL that comes with Debian Linux. It's been Carbonized to run under Mac OS X. MegaHAL is distributed under the GNU Public License; source code is included.

MegaHAL can learn from what you type, it can learn to speak in other languages, and it can use MacinTalk Text-to-Speech to speak back to you (even in Mac OS X)!
MegaHAL is not always politically correct, but it is also not always offensive (unless its brain has been programmed to be offensive, but the default brain isnt entirely offensive).
Still, if MegaHAL says something that insults or offends you, please calm down and realize this is only a program, and its nothing personal.
If you "train" MegaHAL to be perfectly polite, then MegaHAL will be perfectly polite. But we cant guarantee anything, so use this software at your own risk.
