Fresnel Diffraction Explorer is based on an efficient algorithm to calculate numerically a Fresnel diffraction pattern using any two-dimensional aperture.
It is a simple exercise to show that Fraunhofer diffraction by an aperture is mathematically equivalent to the Fourier transform of the aperture shape. The software is free and has inspired some other Active Kidz programs. In fact, Scott and Amy took the name, copied the original Active Kidz website, even going so far as to use unchanged graphic images we had created for themselves. Since this was a viral marketing concept - make it neat and free - I think we achieved enormous success through their success. They are on TV, have DVDs and are doing live shows. They gave this project a real human face and they deserve a look. Remember, "veggies are vegelicious!"
